There are no ways to alert customers to the status of the pool aside from just calling. Due to this issue, I called repeatedly to request a refund for a month of my membership since this was the only reason I became a member. I've gotten the run around: my number has been left for people to call me back twice only to have no one call. I finally went into the branch today to make the request. When they were unable to issue a refund for my lost month, I requested to cancel my membership - only to be told that I'm unable to cancel my membership unless the Operations Manager is there. And guess what? The Operations Manager only works M-F 9-5. How convenient that the only person who can cancel a membership is only available during hours most Americans are working. I don't believe for one second that they are unable to cancel my membership: they are trying any way they can to make it so hard to cancel the membership that people don't.

FREE PARKING -- Parking downtown is a pain so I'm happy that BrownsFit gym validates parking tickets at the attached garage. You won't pay for parking which is awesome. MEMBERSHIP -- I have a corporate membership which means I have a slight discount based on where I work. Membership is month to month (no contract) so if you want to cancel, tell them 10 days before your next gym payment is due and they will cancel your membership. WHAT YOU GET -- They offer group fitness classes (which are included in the membership price), they have cardio equipment such as ellipticals, treadmills, and bikes. They have dumbbells and barbells for those who enjoy lifting weights. There are male and female changing rooms with showers and toilets. *My FAVOURITE machine to use so far has been the Jacobs Ladder. I had never know about this cardio equipment until joining BrownsFit. It is intense and you only need 3 mins to feel the BURN. The Saturday morning BOOTCAMP classes are intense but really good. FREE MASSAGES -- Members can use a massage chair (3 are available) for 10 minutes without any extra charge. I enjoy using the massage chair after a good workout. LAYOUT -- The main floor is huge and has all the cardio and weight equipments. There are TV's lined up on the wall by the windows. They also have 2 fitness exercise rooms at the back of the gym where all the group fitness classes are held. One of the rooms has the spin bikes in them laid out at the back of the wall but there is still space in the room to do your own workout. I'm happy the bikes don't take up the whole room. This room also has weights and other equipment in the corner. Bootcamp classes, yoga, etc, are held in this room. The other fitness group class room is smaller and has equipment in it such as weights, ropes, yoga mats, etc. I love using the group exercise class rooms for my workouts when if there are no fitness classes scheduled. Overall, I would recommend Browns Fit gym. The corporate membership is less than $50 a month and I believe regular membership is under $60/month. I arrived on the 15th of January to sign for another month-to-month subscription. Start up fee was somewhere around $77 after everything. A tad expensive - and I had brought it up to the person working there. She had offered to have me pay majority portion up front, and the remaining at a later date. Cool! Very convenient. I had been asked if I wanted to be on a plan that was consistent with the 15th of the month to bill me $40. Perfect! She then set me up for a Road Map Consultation. Wasn't 100% of what that meant (however, it was easy to guess it had something to do with setting goals, so why not? Sure, put me down for Friday at 7:00 p.m.) I arrive to the consultation and meet with the Trainer there. We start to go over what knowledge I have regarding Nutrition, Exercise, Goals I have, etc. This is where it got weird: He was about to schedule me for sessions with a personal trainer and never mentioned a price!. Luckily, I'm in sales and I can sniff out one brewing from a mile away. So I asked : "Okay, how much will this cost me?" The man started to chuckle, and said something along the lines of "Well your in sales, I mine as well tell you" (keep in mind, I'm paraphrasing but it was something along those lines). If I recall correctly, the cheapest option was 4-Sessions for one month at like $120. $120! That was never brought up in conversation. In sales, this is called unethical. I brushed this off though. The real kicker was today (02/01) - Keep in mind this is exactly 15 days after I paid $50, of the $77 that I needed to start-up. My account received a debit of $67.64. - $40 membership fee - $27.64 of the remaining start-up fee. Okay, so I'm thinking "Hey, this is supposed to come out on the 15th!?" (Still in a decent mood at this point) Call once, twice, three-times, now four. Send an email after the first call. Send a Facebook message at 1:30 p.m. - finally got a message. Basically, it explained that we're not in the Gym on Thursday's until 2:00 p.m. However, not one attempt to reply via email before then. (Getting a tad angry) Finally, they start calling me. When I answer, a highly unenthusiastic unfriendly voice asks what my issue is. I re-explain myself. Instead of working with the customer, I pretty much got told that I signed for a billing cycle that started the 1st of every month, when I asked for the 15th of every month. Every thing I brought up in our conversation that was a concern of mine, was answered with "You signed for these terms - I have them sitting right in front of me." No attempts to work with me, or resolve this issue. She clearly didn't even want to work with me, or resolve this issue. I had to hang up the phone. I was livid, and clearly still am. I want to continue coming here due to the convenience of 24/7 access, and my friends all go here as well. I planned on purchasing protein here, and eventually signing up for a personal training session - I really don't want to leave. These matters need to be resolved though, and I'm warning anyone who wants to sign up here to keep your guard up.

So I decided, what other way to LIFT this burden than to pump some iron. I came fully decked out in my sweatsuit and I was ready to kick butt! I mainly stayed near the free weight area to do curls. My little buggy whips were soon becoming pythons. It didn't take long for me to tuckered out as I usually only get in my exercise during grape harvest season. Wish I was at King's gym right now, but instead I am stuck in Maui. That should say it all. All the "people" are here, every race and creed, hard working people from laborers to white collar professionals, retirees to homemakers, teenage athletes to teenage wallflowers. All the "goals" are here, bodybuilding or powerlifting, boxing or sports specific, group classes and cardio, injury prevention or mental balance, weekend warriors or general wellness, clients with trainers for something specific or clients with trainers who like to torture their trainer for their entire lives... The equipment deserves mention, as they are the most balanced machines ever. They maintain the equipment to perfect working order, whether it is an antique relic or a brand new chinamade machine. You will be hardpressed to find something that isn't here. Top level athletes have all they need too. King's gym has a unique vibe without forcing it. The feel of King's gym is an organic phenomena that many have tried to sort out. It is unpretentious. There is a very hardworking population that is amongst this crowd, as well as folks who are serious about their gym goals. If you see someone frowning and looking rough, almost always are those the people who will light up with gentleness and laugher if you strike a conversation with them. Problems are immediately mitigated here. If there is a situation that is a threat, it is quickly irradicated. In 22 years of training here, I have seen maybe 2 issues. They were eliminated so quickly you couldn't believe it. The owners are family oriented, clean, folk. I was told I had to submit to a membership application in order to get the free trial and then I would need to cancel within thirty days if I did not want to continue. Seemed simple enough until 8 days in I tried to cancel. I was there in person twice and told the manager was not there. I called. Left voice mails. Many. I called corporate twice; no return call ever from them. Then I did get the manager a few times. Maria put me on hold for a full ten minutes, before I hung up, called again and got the voicemail. That was the first hold. Second hold, a few days later, I got put on hold again by Maria. Left again, by Maria. Called back and got her. She tried to coax me into staying many times. It was VERY OBVIOUS she was trying to get me to the 30 day mark and I said, NO CANCEL THIS and she said she did, apologized and I thought that was it. Until Sunday, May 26th when I received an email from a collections company!! I cannot believe this is happening. This is 2026 and predatory subscription practices still going strong. I am currently working on a resolution. I have not yet heard from either the store nor corporate, which I am not surprised. Corporate never returned my calls back when I was in the midst of trying to get this cancelled. It was AWFUL and now, a new issue.

YDM is open 24 hours, it has 1, 3, 6 and 12 month membership options so you're not locked in for a year with no other options. It's not a large place but it has the equipment I need to get to my goals. It's a gym set up for personal training, that is probably 75% of the business they do there if I had to guess. If a trainer is what you're looking for I would totally recommend you to stop in and talk the owner Tom. If you're looking to be on your own and you just want a gym this is not a bad choice but its not as glamorous as a chain gym. It all comes down to the amenities you are looking for in a gym.
