    I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack!
    Philena A.

Been going to LA Fitness off and on since they opened at this location. Lots of machines. Easy to get around. Decent number of classes offered, though one of the instructors can be very off putting. On my most recent visits I've noticed more equipment issues. Examples: the abduction/addiction machine isn't balanced. When using the abduction side, one side opens well before the others causing more weight on one leg. Another example is how monitors on a few treadmills don't come in clearly and is filled with static. The one I used last night kept cutting off as I was actively using the treadmill. You also see signs indicating a call has been made to have specific machines serviced. Plus, a number of folks have expressed concern, wondering when the last time the carpet has been cleaned because they've noticed allergic reactions experienced when working out, especially if they have been on the floor for particular exercises. Lastly. There are also issues with theft. Staff as well as members havE warned me to keep even basic items in my car rather then the lockers. SMH

This place has really gone down hill. The bathrooms are always disgusting when you come in here, no matter what time of the day. It seems like there is always several cardio and weight lifting machines unavailable because it needs service. The garbage bins are always overfilling and it seems like the paper towel rolls are a hit and miss. You never know if there's going to be towels there for people to wipe their machines which results to many people not wiping down their machines because no one wants to keep notifying their employees how to do their jobs. This gym seems to be getting more and more busy as time goes on, no matter what time of day which can be an inconvenience if you're on a time crunch. All I can say is that if you're on a time crunch and you want to get a good workout in, you should probably just get here at 5am when the gym opens. This gym has also made me irritated because even though I have plenty of friends here who workout at the same time, an employee accused him of training me which was very silly since we have been coming here at the same time since this gym has opened. Plus we sometimes come here by ourselves and we know they see us because they greet us! It's like you can't come and workout here with a friend without being accused someone is training the other. Overall, I give this gym a 2 star because the Zumba class by Jasmine is amazing and Spin classes by Donald truly pushes you to do your best. The machines need to be well maintained and taken care of. The cleanliness of the gym has declined dramatically since they first opened. And some of the employees need to treat some of their customers better.

DBs in 2.5# increments up to 55#! Nice!

I came to workout at the Tiedeman location for a week when my usual LA Fitness location at Crocker Park was being remodeled, and it's quite different! This gym is two floors, with all of the cardio equipment located upstairs and everything else on the ground floor. They have a lap pool with 3 lanes, a hot tub, 4 racquetball/handball courts, a basketball court, a room for spin classes, and another room for instructor led classes like Zumba and Jazzercise. Lol I really wish they had a track to run on like Crocker does. The weight equipment is really nice, with the dumbells and plates being vinyl costed and nearly brand new. The dumbells go up in 2.5lb increments until they get up to 55lb, where to go up to 120lb in 5lb increments like every other gym has. I like the machines they have here because the weight stacks are a pinless design where you just flip a switch over to the desired weight and you can flip the top most switch to add 5 lbs. I've never seen this before! The free weights are nice, but the layout is a bit congested. The cable machines seem to be very popular as I always had to wait to use one and they have three of them! The locker rooms are much bigger than Crocker's, but they were a bit on the dirty side. Also, old men walking around naked with no towel seemed to be a normal occurrence here, while it was rare to see at Crocker Park...ugh. I'm not sure if this was due to the Crocker location being remodeled, but this gym was constant packed with people after work! It was hard to finish all of my exercises since people were hogging all of thr equipment. I never really had this issue at Crocker. Overall, it's a nice gym.

This is the sign posted on many machines out of order for weeks, if not months.

The basketball court closes at 8:30. So many people have to work during the day and can't get there until late. Read the room you morons

Ask the Community - LA Fitness

Does this location have a track?

No, the Crocker location and the Legacy Village location both do but the Brooklyn location does not.

    Is the pool well maintained?

It appears to be. I've been in the pool several times. And didn't notice any issues.

There isn't a defined waiting area separate from the class space (it flows together). Because of this, during meditation or savasana people will be entering for the next class. With doors opening/closing, people talking and general noise that personally takes me out of the zone. They also catch noise from somewhere adjacent that sounds like a piano music class. However, I can sympathize that that's out of their control. I also had a class where the instructor had everyone go around the room stating any injuries/physical limitations. Many people find yoga due to physical limitations and it was very awkward. I believe those conversations should stay between instructor and student since everyone is on a different journey and doesn't always want everyone to know. They have a wonderful location and it's never terribly hard to find free parking in Tremont. I've also met some nice people and appreciate the non-competitive atmosphere. I have heard great things about their massage and other services and I would look forward to visiting one of those!

I like the windows but also that no one can really see in. There could be more of a waiting room--I tend to wait outside of the building until I'm more comfortable that the class before me is over instead of hovering. Plenty of street parking. When our self-quarantine is over, this would be something great to get back to!

I wanted to unwind so booked the Soft Aerial Yoga class with Samantha Sycz. It was indeed soft. Very slow. Like just hanging out in a hammock. So when I was face down in the hammock, I had to take off my BRAND-new glasses--first pair in three years, bought in California. Welp, Sam full-on stepped on them. I heard the crunch. WTF. One arm was at a 45-degree angle. I tried to keep my zen and continue. Could not. Sam told me to go to the front desk. Halle gave me that saccharine-sweet runaround that drives me NUTS, insisting on my phone number and refusing to take any responsibility, saying I would hear the next day. "But pleeeease text me when you get home safely." Um, okay, not necessary. Let's deal with the glasses. I then got an incredibly long gaslighting email about how it was my fault and they would take no responsibility. Said Sam haaad to come over to correct my hands in an inversion so really it was necessary for her to crunch my glasses. Thing is, that isn't even when it happened. The inversion happened after, and it was the point at which I left. I was doing virtually nothing when it actually happened. (That's kinda the class btw.) That all was bad enough. To add insult to injury, I came in on a rainy Saturday morning because I'd already booked the body sculpt class. They checked me in. But as I went to enter the class, Halle came at me all saccharine again. She told me to LEAVE. She had my phone number because of her incredible concern for me (eyes rolling back in my head) yet did not text me to tell this. ClassPass showed I was registered, yet in another longwinded email sent a few hours earlier that Saturday morning (because everyone checks their email and junk mail before a Saturday morning workout lol) they said they had taken me out of class. They didn't, obviously. So I wasted my Saturday morning and lost my ClassPass credits and they lied some more. They had me drive down in the rain to take their lame ass class after breaking my brand-new glasses for nothing. It's all on me!! Not very zen of them, but we know how karma works. I wish the photo of my smashed new glasses would upload. Use your imagination.
