I moved to Maine in May, have not been to the gym since April and have had some anxiety about starting again. I was in Windham the other day and thought I would stop in and check it out. I was greeted very pleasantly at the front desk and given a tour as I had never been in this PF before. It was very clean, not crowded and everyone was wearing masks except if they were at a machine working out. There was plenty of distance between units. I ended up staying and doing a little treadmill, then coming back this morning to workout. I had no problem wearing a mask on the wts , but not on the treadmill. There is hand sanitizer and spray cleaner, as always. I always clean before and after, even before covid. The young woman I spoke with was the trainer, I saw her helping someone today and she seemed to know what she was doing. Overall I was impressed and will be going back. read more

This location is really bad. I mean really, really bad. Men's locker room is disgusting- with the smell of urine, body odor and cannabis. In the restroom area, condensation is all over almost every surface, due to lack of ventilation. Treadmills are old and run down. All the small screen tv's connected to the treadmills have no signal. How is this acceptable? The staff are 'chillin'' with their ear buds in and don't acknowledge patrons as they enter and exit. Worst PF location I've ever been to by many miles. Absolutely disgraceful. Go to ANY PF except this one. read more

I love PF but, I moved to Freedom NH in February of 2023. I have gone 2 times since because, the closest PF to me is over an hour drive. I'm hoping that some time soon, we will get one in this area or, I'm canceling my membership. North Conway, NH has a ton of spaces that would be perfect for a PF. It is also a very touristy area, campers, ski fanatics etc.. would be a perfect area for people that camp for the season and don't wanna mess up their fitness routines etc.... So here is to hoping in the very near future, we will get a PF in this area ASAP!! read more

The Windham location of Planet Fitness is blessed with having a personable staff of folks who man their operations. They are welcoming and never forget your name when you walk through the door. The gym is clean and well appointed. The Planet Fitness membership fee is affordable too. What's not to like. A thumbs up from this fitness enthusiast. read more

I have been a consistent member of PF for about 18 months now, hitting a facility 5-6 times a week. I have been to alot of PF facilities around the state and I have to say this is one of the worst PFs I have been in. The gym is much smaller than others and half the equipment is broken or in disrepair. They are always running out of things like paper towels which is concerning. The staff is still super friendly, but I feel like management and the owner do not care about the business or the customers in the long run. I only go here mostly out of convenience as it is closest to me, unfortunately. If you have another option that has more equipment and floor space, go there. read more

The staff here are all very friendly and respectful. It's like every other planet fitness though where you have many younger kids in groups and people who are inconsiderate of other people working out. For the price and the range of equipment it can't be beat though. read more

Great new renovation and location for a Planet Fitness. I like that it has breathed some new life into this plaza section. Looks a lot like the other new remodels/brand new PF locations in the area. Bright, good temperature in there. Busy, but I do not feel cramped. Wifi is very fast -- which is great. Good cardio set up and the other areas look good. Friendly staff. And we get to the part of the review where I again lament the shower situation. I was really hoping that there would be a privacy booth before getting into these showers -- but again, they did not do this in the remodel. It is so disappointing to see showers without proper hooks outside it and no chamber before you get into the shower. There is only one dressing room as well. The locker room is pretty open, so no nooks to hide in if you want to change in. I know locker room culture is to just change in the open, but I think that is broken. Sum up: great location for your work out. I will go again. If you want to shower or change there - just know what to expect. read more

I've been going to the Windham Planet Fitness for approximately six years. When I first started there, the staff were constantly wiping down the exercise equipment, vacuuming the floors (and the bottoms of the lockers), and mopping the locker room floors. In the past year, the cleaning routine has decreased dramatically. Now, for the approximately two hours that I'm there each time, the three or four staff members on duty rarely get out from behind the desk. They are either chatting with each other or playing on their phones. The gym floors and locker room lockers are visibly dirty. The door to the changing room in the men's locker room has been broken for about six months. Despite my mentioning this to the staff repeatedly, it's still broken. Fixing it would be literally a five-minute job. In the changing room, whatever cleaning that takes place is perfunctory. The corners of the room are filled with debris. As an unintentional test of the cleaning routine, I noticed paper clip on the floor of the changing room and decided to see how long it would be before it was picked up. Weeks later, it's still there. I'm forced to continue to go to this Planet Fitness location because it's the only affordable exercise location in the area, but going there is increasingly discouraging. read more

This location is clean with new equipment but it's limited. Awkward layout in the men's locker room where there is little space and a pole in the way. There are only 8 elliptical machines maybe 20 treadmills and a few other items. No TVs to look at while using weights or weight machines. Nice staff. Black card spa is nice too. Stretching area is separate from exercise, so that was nice. Please note the new location. read more

Stopped in for a shower after camping close by and everything was very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

I was in Friday the 11th at about 2:30. There were about 10 customers half of them not wearing masks. Many were far away from others and cleaned equipment when they were done. Unfortunately, there was one individual using machines that were within 2 feet of his breathing without a mask. He made no effort to clean the machines when he was done. It would be impossible for employees not to have seen that so many were without masks. The sign on the door says all are required to wear masks. I guess the enforcement ends with the sign. read more

Recently relocated to the plaza near Dena's and Bull Moose and is now even nicer than before! This is by far the nicest PF in the Greater Portland Area and surrounding locations. Pros: WiFi up and running again clean, tiled, showers Full body weight circuit Those awesome stair machines TVs attached to the machines so no one can accidentally change your channel Stretching area 30 minute fitness circuit Stand up tanning beds Separated massage chairs and massage table Cons: The new location has many new gym members, machines are now way more crowded Not open 24 hours Weekend hours are limited for those that work on weekends, closes at 7 If, for some reason, you are deciding between two locations, choose this one. read more

I've been a few times, I was a member at the other location and this one. The staff is nice enough, however, my mother along with friends of mine joined. They are trying to get in shape, they do not have experience using the equipment or true weight training. When they went in they asked for some help with using the equipment along with maybe some advice. The people at the desk said of course and that they would be right over. After 30 mins of waiting and on the treadmill there was no one in sight on there way over. They went over to counter and asked again and they were rude and said just be patient. There where two people at the desk just talking. Very disrespectful. Truly if you have a basic/good understanding of training and working out yea join up and work out. Unfortunately, if you are new to the game and not really sure about the training and going by your self for the first time. I can't say I recommend it unless you simply want to use a treadmill with no help. (If that is all you want you should simply buy one and work out in your home) Truly disappointed and can't in good conscience recommend this gym along with maybe the chain. read more

Planet fitness is an affordable, no frills gym that has a fairly consistent business model from franchise to franchise. As such, I never expected one location to stand out far above the others. I have been an on and off member since the company began, have worked out in 12-15 locations, over the years, and have never enjoyed the experience as much as I have at the Windham PF. I'll be honest...I'm not wild about the new location and setup: the parking is often challenging, locker rooms feel more cramped, the popular equipment is swamped during peak hours, and the layout just isn't to my liking. In other words, if this were any other PF, it would be getting an average review. Where this location shines is the staff. From the day I started going here, I noticed a difference. The staff were all friendly, professional and constantly in motion. The equipment gets regularly cleaned, the floors constantly vacuumed, spray bottles refreshed, etc. But, more than that, the staff knows everyone's name, they all have excellent soft skills and take an interest in their members, and they can answer questions about the equipment and health plans far beyond staff at other PF locations. Then there's the trainers. This location currently has three professional trainers (Cody, Pete and Tyler), with a fourth starting any day and one more in the works. When I say professional, I don't just mean that they have passed a certified trainers class (they all have), I mean they have each completed a four-year college degree in a related field (Exercise Science, Athletic Training and Sports Management). As such, each trainer has a wealth of highly technical, modern information about health and exercise related issues. This is a tremendous resource for members: not only can one schedule time for a one-on-one with any of these professionals, but someone is almost always there to catch for a quick question (a service I have admittedly abused). These trainers don't just answer the question and shoo members away- again, they take an active interest in promoting a healthy and safe health and exercise plan, and will go as deep as the member wishes to delve. Like the other staff here, the trainers have great personalities and clearly care about what they do- each of them has helped me significantly. This is what I get at this location for $10 per month, and I am grateful every time I walk in the door. I know that staff turnover is inevitable, but for now I am motivated to hit the gym like never before! read more

The new updated gym is awesome. Really well done. There is a black card spa, that has private rooms with full body massage chairs "hydro beds". They also have a seating area in there to watch TV, this is also where the tanning beds are located. It's really nice & sets a good mood after your workout. The 30 minute workout area is now completely separate from the gym, over by a Stretching area. Both are great space savers! The new large gym area is great. Tons of treadmills (but during busy hours you'll have trouble finding one), there's a few ellipticals (also here to find while busy). They added more stair climbers- great! My only reason for not giving the new gym a full 5 Stars is that there should still be a few more machines. It's becoming a very busy gym in an up & coming area. It's already hard to find a machine & there is only one of each weighted machine (example. 1 hip abductor, 1 ab cruncher) .. you'll end up waiting for someone to get off the machine for 20 minutes. I workout here every time I come and visit family. The staff is always welcoming and the gym is always clean. This place has everything you need to get a workout in and also has massage chairs and tanning beds. If you're worried about Covid then this is your place. They have cleaning stations all over this place and everyone wears a mask when not working out. read more

I'm reviewing this gym for what it is... a Planet Fitness. Obviously they don't have things like barbells and racks. It would be sweet if they did but that's the brand and is no fault of the gym itself. The staff is awesome! They're very friendly and knowledgeable. While I haven't done the personal training, I see them with clients all the time and they're very attentive and encouraging. The equipment is well-maintained and clean. I will actually drive past the other PF locations close to work to come to this gym because it is so much cleaner and nicer than any other PF location in southern Maine. Repairs are made quickly if something does break. In terms of the members themselves, there is a huge variety: seniors to teenagers, overweight to underweight, lifters to runners, and everything in between. They also have free wifi which is awesome if you like to listen to pandora or use a workout program from an app or website. The only downside (again, keeping in mind this is PF) is that the weight section is so small. There is room for maybe four benches and god help you if more than one person is doing lateral raises! However, they are apparently moving to a larger location and that is likely to change. read more

Just called this gym to basically give them money they didn't deserve. I am going to be at my family's camp and need a place to work out. I am used to paying ten dollar day fees at gyms when I travel, which is already RIDICULOUS and completely taking advantage of me. This guy tells me it will be TWENTY a day. Seriously?? The only game in town...unfortunately. Great updated machines recently. BUT I DON'T WANT MACHINES! They eliminated ALL barbells! The ONLY free weights now are Dumbbells and a few low-weight fixed barbells. Very disappointed as a seasonal user to come back this summer and find this! Everyone is into CrossFit etc with free weights and PF just lowered the bar to being even less a professional gym. They're lucky they have a corner on the market in this area. read more

To start off I was a competitive fitness model/weightlifter a few years back, I primarily lift, so my gym visits aren't spent texting and laying on a yoga mat.. Old gym was cramped, they finally moved to a new location. Seems a little bit bigger but they still managed to cram stuff in where it's a pain to get to and made it so you have to walk to opposite sides of the gym to do different exercises for the same body parts. Squat racks aren't in front of the mirrors again and there's still only 3 of them. Free weight area is boxed in on 3 sides and a pain to move around people to get to barbells, only one flat bench, they removed a few machines that were used quite a bit including the ab-coaster and crunch plate machine. There's a new 'crossfit station' with ropes, kettle bells, and monkey bars which is weird considering there's a 'lunk alarm' and you aren't allowed to drop weights or make noises. That's kind of what crossfit workouts are about. And hopefully its temporary but the place wreaks of either mold or dirty hamster cage.. or both.. cant quite pinpoint it. They just moved there recently, so maybe they'll shuffle things around and fix the loose ends eventually. This gym is fine if you're just going to do machines or cardio. Heavy lifting- forget it. Canceled my membership after two visits to the new location. The $10 per month is great and all but I've been going here for 10 years and I am absolutely done dealing with this place. Just dropped $4k on commercial equipment for home, painful but totally worth it. read more

Take my review as well as others with a grain of salt. The staff at this Planet Fitness are awesome. The weight room is not made to accommodate advanced power lifters. This being said; the corporate theme of "no gymtimidation" is quiet ridiculous. I understand that some people may get intimidated by others in gyms but why eliminate a group of residents from your establishment by not accommodating their needs. This particular franchise still has a free-weight squat rack but judging from the 24-hour branch in Portland which made new renovations, corporate is about to do away with free-weight squat rack and free-weight bench press. Why? Oh wait, some of your members feel intimidated? Good staff but sucky corporation. read more

I am quite unhappy with my short experience at Planet Fitness in Windham, Maine. It is all about false advertisement. I just cancelled my membership and my wife's after 1.5 months. It is not clear from their website and from talking to the employees at Planet Fitness what the costs are. It is clear I was to pay 10/month. It was not clear there is a 39/person entry fee, though I saw that come through when I first joined. I was quite surprised to see another 39/person as an reoccurring annual charge. I called the Windham location to inquire about a billing question and I spoke with someone named Allie. She was the rudest person I've ever spoken to at any establishment. Gave very short answers, huff and puffed, and when I asked to speak to a manager, she said there wasn't one in. I then asked for the regional management office number so I could call them about a complaint and she told me to "google it" it and hung up. This is an ongoing trend I've noticed while going to the Windham location. The staff is rude, rolls their eyes at people working out, finishes personal conversations at the desk before helping members and they do not greet you whatsoever when you walk in the door. It's an atrocity what caliber of employees they have representing that club. When my renewal date comes up, I will not be renewing with PF since there are tons of other gyms and training facilities in the area. The gym is always very clean and large enough so it doesn't feel crowded but the people working there are enough to drive people away. read more

HORRIBLE STAFF EXPERIENCE- I have been a member of Planet Fitness in Windham since January of 2017 and have never had pleasant interactions with the staff when I actually needed something (walking in and out of the gym, they seem friendly and make sure to say have a good day). Today, I went in there to cancel my membership. To start off, the two workers were leaning up against the counter on their phones talking to each other. I understand this is a laid back facility, but I had to say "Excuse me" just to get their attention, they didn't even realize I was standing there! The girl came over and helped me out, she was typing in my information on the computer when the guy came over and completely interrupted us. He was laughing and showed her his Instagram account, in which she completely stopped helping me, took his phone and scrolled through his photos. They were laughing about his long hair in high school? Completely unprofessional, I was astonished that 1. He thought interrupting us for something like that was ok and 2. That she would stop helping a customer to look at something like that!!!! Finally I got my membership cancelled (thank god!!). THEN, I logged into my mobile banking and saw Planet Fitness had taken out $40 from my checking account. I immediately called them and she explained it was the annual fee that is in the contract you sign, which I am well aware of since I paid last years annual fee. But I cancelled my membership BEFORE the charge, nothing should have been taken out. I was livid and told her I wanted a refund, because why am I paying for a gym that I'm no longer going to? She acted as if I was stupid, like I obviously have to pay even though it's not benefiting me... she said she'd talk to her manager and see if there was anything he could do but, "probably not". I am so angry, horribly customer service and now I'm down $40. Planet Fitness is a scam and you should look for a better gym. read more

This should not be listed as a gym. They say "Judgement Free Zone" but that's not true. They don't want people to judge the less fit, more casual gym goers but will judge immediately against people looking to actually push themselves to the limits. They have removed numerous pieces of equipment over the last year and continue to ban more activities from their gym. Hope you don't like benching, you'll have to use the smith machine, hope you don't like jump roping, it's not allowed, want to curl 70 pounds? Sorry, the bars stop at 60. It's too bad they sponsor The Biggest Loser, since the contestants all do on the show what I just listed, but now you can't. Shame on management for continuing to cater to people who are afraid of a gym atmosphere at what was once actually considered, a gym. read more

I was really surprised to see a 1 star review just because you really couldn't ask for much more. There's great equipment, you'd have to have something wrong with you not to get along with those who work there, and everyone that goes there is pretty cool. What a terrible gym in every way shape and form. I recently became a member of planet fitness. Every month they charge me 10$ for my membership fee, doesn't sound too shabby right? WRONG. Every year they charge you a 30$ annual membership fee. Mine was scheduled for OCTOBER. My boyfriend and I found a new apartment in September and decided to cancel our membership because it was too far of a drive. We moved an hour away. On September 24th I called the gym and said i needed to cancel my membership. Well for some strange reason they make you come into the gym to cancel. I explained I lived an hour away now and could not make the drive. The guy I spoke to was very nice and explained that if I sent in a signed letter saying I would like to cancel my membership that would be fine. I explained that the letter might not get there in time and I did not want to be charged for the annual fee or my membership fee. He explained that as long as the letter was received by OCTOBER 10th and I did not try to use my membership, I would not be charged. So here I am thinking my problems are solved. Turned out that 2 days later, on the 26th of September, I needed to return to my old apartment, and while I was making the trip decided to stop into the gym. The guy I spoke to was unbelievably RUDE. First of all he made a comment about us canceling our memberships, which was unnecessary. Then he proceeded to have us sign a paper and explained that because today was SEPTEMBER 26th that we would still be charged for the annual fee because we did not cancel by SEPTEMBER 25th. How outrages. It would have been one thing if he was just informing us of the rules, but he made it a point to have a "sucks to be you" attitude. I immediately got defensive and asked him to explain why we were being charged, because the person I talked to on the phone told us the money did not come out of our accounts until OCTOBER 1st, and we still had plenty of time. Well, "chris" the guy we were speaking to in the gym, told us that I actually called on the 25th, so it would have been to late anyways! (little did he know I actually called on the 24th, and then called back on the 25th too see where to send the letter). So apparently the guy I spoke to on the phone was WRONG. We needed to cancel by September 25th to not be charged the 30$, but we had until the 10th to cancel to avoid being charged for the monthly 10$ fee. The worst part was I was charged the 30$ AND so was my boyfriend. So there goes 60$ out the window all because the guy misinformed me. Had he told us that we needed to cancel by the 25th, I would have drove up there the day I called, on the 24th, and canceled. So the next day I called the manager and explained the situation. He basically told me that he knows the person I spoke to on the phone knows the rules and he wouldn't have misinformed me. So I must have misunderstood, and there was nothing he could do because the transaction already went through. Come to find out that the money in my account did not come out until the 2nd, so I'm sure the manager could have done something if he wanted to. But then again every guy I spoke to there was incredibly RUDE and incredibly UNHELPFUL I will NEVER go back. I highly recommend you to NEVER GO THERE. and I have never felt so mistreated as a customer. read more
