Extremely unprofessional and rude. I have walked in before to make an appointment for a piercing and I was treated with such disrespect. I've brought them a lot of business too knowing they do nose piercings and are close by. My friends have all had the same experience. Their piercer is awful. I came in to have my piercing looked at (that by the way she did) just to get some care advice and I said, "I'm so glad you could help me out and see me so quick." And she said, "well you did it to yourself. It's your ear not mine." 0/10 recommend especially for anyone new to tattoos and piercings. I went in expecting a better experience. Sean I admit did not keep me waiting and he came up with a quick design that I liked and I was pleased that the process did not take long, but I was not happy about the way he reminded me about the shops rules as though I was def or that he just didn't make his point clear to me the first time he said it. He asked if the family member I brought with me was going to be a problem and also said not bring a certain aged family member with me because there is no baby sitting service there. I called before hand to make sure someone was capable of doing a fine line tattoo on my hand. when I got there I showed them the picture and how small I wanted it. he proceeded to tell me where I should get the tattoo because he didn't want to do the tattoo on my hand. I then suggested a couple other spots and he REFUSED. He mentioned he couldn't do a tattoo that small (4-5 inch). Overall waste of time. read more

I've gotten four out of my six tattoos done at this shop, and each one was amazingly well-done. Every artist is talented, knows what they're doing, and will do a great job every time. They are also reasonably priced. I've made many trips down from the Capital Region to get tattoos here, as there are absolutely no shops in the Albany area that are anywhere near comparable to PNY. Also - I am SO glad that they changed their shop entrance. I remember having to go through a maze of hallways to get to the front door, but the new entrance and renovated shop are fantastic. I only have one problem with this place. It's kind of a big problem - as in, big enough for me to not come back. I have never felt comfortable at this shop. There is an overbearing feeling of arrogance in the air whenever I walk in. I completely understand why, as every single artist there does beautiful work. However, I personally feel that it doesn't matter how great your work is - if you don't treat your customers with some sort of kindness (or if you act like they're an idiot, or insist that a communication error is all the customer's fault), then they probably won't come back for more business. Sadly, I am done with the attitude I seem to get every time I walk in the door, though I'm extremely happy with the tattoos I've gotten while I did patronize the shop. read more

I have had all my piercings and my tattoo done at Planet New York and have always been pleased. Last Wednesday we went in to get my friend her first tattoo, unfortunately they couldn't do it that night so we made an appointment for the next Wednesday. Well we went at our scheduled time and the artist did not have an appointment written down, didn't have a drawing, and didn't even remember us! We rescheduled for this morning, and to Greg's credit (the artist) he did feel so bad he came in super early to accomodate. The tat is freakin' beautiful. He does all custom stuff. The original Wednesday I decided to get my nostril done. Dan was the piercer and he was great. Very gentle and calming. The piercing is wonderful and I have had no problems with it. So, though sometimes the guys get a litte fuzzy-headed about stuff, the work is real quality. I would highly recommend them. read more

They were AMAZING!!!!!! I don't give 5 stars on ANYTHING, but PNYT totally deserves it!!!!! From the moment we walked in we could tell that it was very clean, sterile and very welcoming. We were tattooed by Sagg and he was awesome! This was my very FIRST tattoo and he was extremely gentle, explained every step, and was precise in his aftercare instructions. My daughter got her fifth one done immediately after mine and Sagg was exactly the same with her! I went to PNY for my first ever tattoo at the suggestion of several family members who have gotten the majority of their work done there. When I first walked in I talked to Mike at the front desk, and described what I wanted. While I stood there I took a minute to scan the place. The paint and decorations were epic, and the whole area smelled clean. I felt comfortable immediately. Mike suggested that I make my appointment with Vinny based on the style of tattoo that I was looking to get. I managed to land an appointment only two weeks away from the date that I walked in. Two weeks later I walked in for my appointment. I brought a friend with me just in case Vinny was finishing up another tattoo and I needed to wait. When he came out the tattoo that he had drawn up was pretty far off the mark of what I had envisioned, but I realized that was probably due to my inaccurate description. My tattoo was an original idea so I couldn't find any pictures online and had to basically count on my artist to pull my dream tattoo right out of my skull. After four attempts Vinny finally walked out with a drawing that was more amazing that I could have ever imagined. Since my piece took up the majority of the ribcage on my right side I settled in and expected serious pain. Honestly, it was not NEARLY as bad as everyone had mentally prepared me for. Vinny didn't cause me to bleed very much at all, and the whole process lasted about 3 hours. It's been over a month since I went to PNY, and my tattoo is fully healed. Only have gotten piercings from John and he is amazing. Everything is very clean and he is extremely knowledgable. He makes me feel comfortable and at ease. I've gotten 15 piercings from him and can't complain. While John is great the other staff is not. They are not welcoming or kind and there is a feeling of uncomfortableness when walking in. I don't enjoy speaking to the desk or artists so refuse to get tattooed there. I only go to plant NY for John the piercer. read more

My experience was awful. They did not do what I wanted. They charged way too much. At the end of the guy tattooing I told him what I did not like about the tattoo and he told me that from far away it looked like it was supposed to and that he didn't feel like adding lines where I wanted him to. My friend and I wanted to go in to get small matching ankle tattoos, so I called a week or two in advance to ask for an appointment. The guy on the phone told me because of the size, they wouldn't make an appointment and I'd have to just walk in. But the day I wanted to go in they were having a tattoo special (a fundraiser for a diabetes research), so the guy told me to come in at 11:45, just before they opened. The day came and we went in, got there a little late, and stood in a very crowded and mildly disorganized lobby, just to be turned away. They said they were just doing a pre-set menu of designs for the fundraiser and there would be no regular walk-ins. So the communication was very off. Hence, disappointment and no tattoos. read more

Here is my experience today. I hade a appointment with Greg that I made 1 month ago today. I left a $100 deposit. About three days ago I called to see if I could come in to see the drawing and make any changes I wanted. I was told that there is no need for that. Greg will make any changes that day. When I was shown the drawing today by the lady at the front desk, not greg, I said I wanted something changed. She went to greg and then came back and said he was not going to change anything. I said I will not do the tattoo like this and she said fine and let me walk out of the store. They will not give me my $100 deposit back. It was very unprofessional for greg to not come out to speak to me thru the whole ordeal. I will never go back or recommend pny to anyone. read more

Giving planet new york a rating was tough. The art is great by every artist, just got tatted by vin yesterday, super cool dude. However, the woman at the front desk has pretty much no idea how to price tattoos and charged me entirely way too much for a walk in (the artist wasn't there to tell her how much it should cost). I had her cut the price in half and it was still too much. As someone said earlier, the arrogance (which is found in many shops) is rather high here as well. Best advice I can give is know your tattoo prices and stand by them. If you think it's too much don't pay it, that's where the arrogance steps in, they make you feel like you're almost burdening them for asking for something reasonable - or atleast she did, a lesson i learned myself yesterday. It's sad because I had a great tattoo done there a couple years ago by guest artist Yurgo Tas and was charged a very reasonable price. Check out his shop in Suffern.. Great art, don't do a walk-in unless the artist is there, know your price and stand by it. read more
