The anesthesia will very likely be out of pocket cost, but it was worth every penny! Now for the rest of my review: After experiencing horrendous care at other OBGYN facilities in my more local area, I was first terrified to change to this location for an IUD procedure but I was recommended it by a friend. The doctor called me ahead of my procedure to answer any questions and he was super kind over the phone making me feel so much more comfortable. Day of the procedure there was a bit of a wait as it was filled with appointments. But the waiting room was nice as we all got to watch a Netflix show to pass the time. Once I was called in, the staff were very nice and very efficient to get me ready. And the anesthesiologist was so funny my nerves were completely settled before they put me under. Next I remember being fully dressed and they guided me to a low lit room with comfortable recliners that had such a peaceful ambience. The nurses were kind to answer my questions I had about how the procedure went while I was in that room which was promptly followed by the doctor who did my procedure. She came in to ask how I felt and how I was doing and I just felt an overwhelming sense of care and compassion at this facility that I've never experienced before anywhere else in medical care, I nearly cried from how happy I was. (That could have also been the after effects of the anesthesia but the emotions were still genuine). I was sent home with a little bag of overnight pads and information on my IUD device. My pain levels after never got above a 2/10, and they sent me home with a pain meds prescription for the following few days to address any cramping I might feel. I cannot put into words how thankful I am to this facility, the staff, and the doctors that made my experience here incredible, and comfortable, and safe. I don't care how long of a drive it is for me, I will always only go to this place for OBGYN needs in the future.

But I guess that's just my take on the situation. I was referred to Dr. Frankwick a few years ago after developing, according to another diagnostician, "numerous" fibroids, including one the size of a small puppy. Nice. Dr. Frankwick was communicative and professional throughout the appointment, and described my potential next steps. After my anger over the too-few options women with fibroids have in this day and age of medical advancements and technology abated, I chose embolization surgery. She set me up with Via Radiology down the road, and her office personnel quickly processed the referral. The procedure was the right choice for me, but I warn anyone considering embolization: expect pain. A lot of pain. I've since returned to Dr. Frankwick for fibroid reappearance and I am still impressed with her patience and expertise. Although the symptoms I experienced were upsetting, she was very reassuring, and truly put my mind--and perhaps runaway imagination--at ease.

Another time, my sister strongly disapproved of my BHRT choices. Dr. Frankwick boosted me right up with a quick series of questions meant to remind me that my health needs are not the same as my sister's--and that is the very point of BHRT--individual treatment! Now I have moved to Tennessee--VERY limited BHRT practitioners here (and those few, men), and few female gynecologists. You all are blessed with a caring female gynecologist who additionally believes in and understands BHRT. Highly recommended.

They were supposed to contact me. A week after she sent the referral I called since I hadn't heard. They told me they hadn't received the referral. I asked my doctor to send yet again. No word. It had been about a month at this point and I had travel planned so I didn't call again for a couple weeks. When I did, a very helpful person informed me they still didn't have a referral. At this point I asked what I needed to do to get in because we'd sent the referral twice, and she was kind enough to enter me in the system and promised to reach back out the following week to schedule. A week later I get a message that the clinic is not accepting external referrals. Why was this not communicated to me two months ago when I was in horrific pain? How did no one on staff know this information? It's fine if they can't see me but I am deeply upset that they made me wait 2 months to tell me they couldn't see me. I…read morewasn't impressed with him or the treatment plan he gave me so I decided to look for a second opinion. My dad found a fantastic review of Dr. Muntz on Angie's list, so I made an appointment. Wow! What a difference from pretty much every other medical establishment I've ever been to. The office is really nice and comfortable, the lighting is soft, the colors are calming. I immediately felt like I was in a place of healing. All the staff I met in the Womens Cancer Care facility were genuine, friendly, and efficient. Everyone seemed happy to work there (a stark contrast to Swedish!). I had to get the dreaded pelvic exam (I'd already had quite a number of those in a short period of time) and noticed that there was a nice picture of trees of covering the florescent light directly above my face. I've always thought that offices should do something like that! It made it so much more comfortable than having that sickly light beating down into your eyeballs while you're already doing something detestable (pelvic exam!). Staff and interior decorating aside, Dr. Muntz himself is a gem. He is very personable, he listens to your concerns, he really explains things so that you understand them, while not condescending to you at all. The doctor I'd seen before him had wanted to take my pelvic lymph nodes out which really scared me because of the possible complications. Dr. Muntz agreed that it seemed like a drastic step, and suggested we wait on those, until after the primary surgery. Sure enough, it proved to be unnecessary. I get to keep my lymph nodes! My surgery went perfectly, the entire Northwest Hospital staff were competent and extremely friendly. I felt completely confident in their abilities before I went under general anesthesia. (The hospital pre-op waiting area has those wonderful nature images over most of their florescent lights too!) I never dread going in for my follow up appointments. I have complete confidence in Dr. Muntz, and I fully appreciate his bedside manner. If you have been diagnosed with cervical cancer, I definitely recommend getting a second opinion from Dr. Muntz!

After five years, fibroids regrew--which is not uncommon. I went in for imaging every 10 months or…read moreso to keep track of fibroid growth and I'm glad I did. Around the five year mark, they found adenomyosis, which is a common side effect of any gynecological surgery. It appeared on my surgical sites. This isn't the doctor's fault, but it's useful to know and to get imaging for it in the years after surgery. Problem is, when I went back to Dr Winner about a 2nd myomectomy, she encouraged me to do the myomectomy--which could have further increased my Adenomyosis issue. Mine was caused by surgery. The risk of more Adenomyosis was high with another myomectomy. Also, the iron testing she does before surgery is very general--I was anemic (at 24) when her test said my iron was fine. The Adenomyosis was making me anemic (it bizarrely hoards iron in the uterus). At no point did doctor winner advise me that there were other options for treating the Adenomyosis, like HIFU and UAE--both don't require traditional surgery and have great results for fibroids and Adenomyosis while preserving the uterus and eliminating the other health issues from Adenomyosis. This isn't fair to patients. I don't regret my 2020 surgery with Dr. Winner at all, myomectomy was my only choice with a massive fibroid and Winner was 100% the right choice. But when I complained of surgical site pain at my belly button, she didn't inform me that this could be a common side effect of the surgery where bits of endometrial lining could be accidentally left there--causing, essentially, endometriosis. There are interventional radiology treatments that are outpatient for this common side effect. Finding out that crucial context on my conditions had been left out by Dr. Winner in consultations was... not trust building. Dr. Winner should give patients more well rounded advice even if it means they don't choose surgery with her. She's amazing at getting big fibroids out with virtually no scars, doing endo excision, etc., but if you have post surgical issues or adenomyosis or fibroids that are 5-7cm and under, you may want to seek other consultations with interventional radiologists. Ultimately, I traveled to another state to get uterine artery embolization to kill off the fibroids and adenomyosis, which is performed through a single vein. No scars, no need for healing up my abdominal wall, and very little risk of causing more adenomyosis. 1.5 months out, my stomach has shrunk, my inflammation is down, my cycles are cycling and I feel great. I'll go in for cryo treatment of the belly button endo soon. --But I had to do extensive research and find other options all on my own. It would've been the kind thing to do to refer me to other practitioners so I could get the results I needed--elimination of adenomyosis and reducing risk of more adenomyosis sites.
