Plath's is awesome! Small town butcher that has been around forever. My sister spends the summer in Michigan and takes back a freezer full of Plath's meats to last the winter in Florida. The smoked Brats are the bomb and the pork chops were juicy and tender with just a quick marinade and then on the grill. We had the bacon with breakfast and it was meaty and full of smoky flavor. I did not get to taste the smoked pork chops but they are one of the few meats my picky niece and nephews will eat. If you are in the area go to Plath's you will be happy. I'd give them ten stars if I could. Plath's is a small-town, multi-generation family business. They started smoking pork loin in the 60's, built a state-of -the-art smokehouse in the 80's or 90's, and continue to have a small storefront in Rogers City, but supply meat to fine restaurants on Mackinac Island, and throughout northern Michigan. They also have a mail order business. The bacon is perhaps the best you'll find anywhere. Smoked pork loin continues to be a favorite. We always stock up on their homemade cheese hot dogs and beef jerky. And the great-great-grandchildren of the original owner still help in the store. read more

My God!!! If the rest of their products are anything like their bacon, this place is a meat eaters paradise. I was in RC for business and a friend asked me to pick him up of Plath's bacon (and be sure to get some for myself). In the case there were pre sliced 1 pound packages stacked at least 6 high and about 4 deep. THAT tell you how good it is if they have to keep that much bacon sliced and ready. It's very meaty (but not too lean... bacon is supposed to be fatty after all), nicely smoked/cured without any of that over processed smell you get from grocery store bacon. My only complaint is that it splattered grease while cooking like no other bacon I've ever cooked. Good thing I had a splatter shield in the cupboard. They ship their products too! I grew up on Plath's. They make by far the best baked beans, bacon, beef jerky, and smoked fish around. Ever since I moved away from home I have my dad send me beef jerky now and then since I'm not able to come home all the time. =) I would recommend them to anyone who is in the Presque Isle/Alpena area. Plaths has been in business for 100 years now and it shows how good it is today as it was back when I was knee high to a grasshopper. The smoked products that they make are the best I've ever had! The bacon, ham, hot dogs, chicken, fish, and turkey are head and shoulders above the rest! But the crowning product here is the smoked pork chops and they are GREAT!!! Get the thick cut ones that are about 3/4 of an inch thick. Perfect for the grill and are just the best! They ship to any state in the nation and the prices are good, not like the fru-fru places that charge for their name. Oh yeah, the beef jerky is fantastic. When I was a kid, me and my brothers would save up money for up north with a portion just for our own beef jerky. Nothing like the crap in the bags at the stores, this stuff is the best!!!!!! read more

Purchased some house smoke salmon. Delish! Walking in you get that home town authentic feel and out front it smells like good smoke is happening. Can't beat it anywhere. There is just something to so pleasant, clean and small town alive and Plath's is a good example of it. read more

There isn't anything better on the grill than Plath's smoked loin chops. Get the thick cut chops, and baste them with Catalina dressing, just as Mel Plath used to recommend. I've never served them to anyone who didn't absolutely rave. read more
