I have been in there two times the past few months and feel strange about my experience. I did not realize that it was a place geared for young people and people over 30 is not their demographic. I tried selling clothes there and the first time was told they cater to younger people and my clothes would not sell. I had items like leather pants and some baseball shirts that Buffalo Exchange ended up buying. Second time I went there had someone tell me something similar. Some of the clerks were nice while others made me feel bad about my age. Being a hip rocker chic who looks in her thirties I will stick to Buffalo Exhange and thrift stores. read more

I was visiting ABQ to help my sister move and took 3 bags of her clothes to Plato's Closet. I knew there was a high possibility of them not being interested in the items I brought in, but I wanted to try. If they didn't want anything, I could donate them elsewhere. I'm from out of town and wasn't familiar with their system, but when I walked up to the counter with 3 bags it was clear I was there to sell. They took my info and told me it would be about 30 minutes. I browsed the store. Unfortunately the 30 minutes rolled into an hour. I was waiting in the store for 2 hours. When the employees finish looking through your items, they write your name on a whiteboard at the front counter to indicate they are ready to see you. There is no announcement made. I took a 15 minute walk to buy a tea at another store after I had been there for an hour. I was saddened to realize they still had not looked through my items when I returned. I browsed through every aisle, every forsaken scarf and baseball cap. There is only one place to sit and I didn't want to keep anyone else from sitting there since I was in the store for so long so I continued to browse. Only once did an employee ask if I needed assistance during my waiting period. After the second hour rolled by I saw my name on their white board and walked to the counter for help. I've worked retail and I know it is tedious and difficult but I stood there for 5 minutes waiting to be acknowledged while 3 employees sorted/folded clothes behind the counter and talked about their snapstories. One paused and asked another employee at the other end of the store to cash me out. They use big plastic bins to separate merchandise and the cashier handed me everything out of my designated bin--2 plastic bags. The cashier told me that they "could not buy any items I brought in today." Fair. I'm exhausted and upset but I'm glad to leave. I return home. My sister looks through the bags and notices 2 faux fur winter coats are missing from the bags I brought back. I assumed they consolidated our items into 2 bags, but in reality 1 bag was somewhere in Plato's Closet. We called the store and they found the bag, unfortunately we now need to make another trip to retrieve it. I felt uncomfortable having them donate it after they misplaced it. It was probably an honest mistake but it could have been avoided if they maintained an organized system. All in all, I am planning on avoiding Plato's Closet in the future. If I'm ever in ABQ again, I'll go to Buffalo Exchange. read more

If you are into 2nd-hand, this place is probably among the best in town. They color-coordinate clothing which is odd, but I suppose makes it easier if color is your first preference. They've a wall of just T's, then the racks of assorted skirts, pants, shorts, workout wear (I would skip on second that stuff) belts hang on the ends of racks all throughout the shop as does jewelry but mostly on the cashier side (theft-deterrent im sure) they've a wall in the front entrance area of just purses/backpacks & the staff always greets you quite exuberantly upon entering. I've yet to sell back anything because I've separation issues with all my clothing...but I've heard good things on what they will buy. Every so often if you are on their email list you will be alerted to the half-off clearance crap, so basically for next to nothing you can fill a bag & pay one price... I have purchased several items over the years that were defective; but its stated upfront no returns basically so Im not sure what people expect if they are unwilling to inspect the items beforehand(?) My suggestion for the shop? More room between rows of racks..very difficult navigating/playing chicken with opposite direction shopper! read more

I really enjoyed shopping here. I love shopping second hand but it's always a gamble on whether or not I'm going to find something I like. But I did! I had to practice a lot of self control since I had a very small budget but I was very impressed by the prices, the quality and selection of the clothes, and the friendliness if the staff. Never, no never going back. First off, I'd just like to throw it out there that it smells like a retirement home inside the store. I've never had a pleasant experience at this location. At my last visit, I was attempting to sell a bag full of expensive clothing. So I set my brand new, special edition Michael Kors purse on the counter to get my license and I ask how much a purse like mine would run, (for future reference) and the clerk says that because of the "damage" to my purse, they could give me $22.80 for my $400 purse. Does that sound fair? Anyway, after they reviewed my clothes and called me up, she tells me that my clothes is "too worn" and could not be accepted. I'd really like to know how a dress with the tag still on it, is too worn when I've never actually worn it? It confuses me that they would not accept my designer clothing, yet there is hole-filled clothes from Walmart on the shelves. My friends and I will stick to Buffalo Exchange to sell our clothes, at least we won't get scammed there. read more

Went in to try and sell some clothes. I had previously been to a platos closet in Las Vegas and had a great experience! Unfortunately they took nothing of mine. Said the clothes were a little out of style and "too nice" for their store. While the buyer was looking at my items for sale I did manage to meander through the store. Couple things I like, the store is very well organized with a large selection of women's clothing ranging in all sizes, and the prices seemed to be very reasonable. Some down sides is that the merchandise they take in is some what on the lower end. Lots of Forever21, Charlotte Russe, and H&M which to the acknowledgements of their conclusion of my items being "high end" I would have to agree. I did notice some items were stained or faded as well. They have a very weak men's section and seem to have many of the same or similar styles not really diversified. I feel that the store is appealing to a younger generation. They did have several beautiful Michael Kors purses but priced too high, you can buy a new Michael bag from Ross or Marshall's for the same price...with all that said the staff is young and friendly and I would recommend this store if you need a quick pick me up for an impromptu date night or Girl's night! I brought in 2 bags of gently used JUST LAUNDERED clothing, I walked the racks and noticed a significant amount of really over worn and tattered clothing... I waited over 30 minutes and finally went to the register with 3 items I anticipated to buy/trade for my other items. The cashier greeted me after I waited at the counter (no line) after about 5 minutes. Then I let her know I was selling clothes as well, she pulled my name tag off of a black bin behind the counter and then brought my bags to the counter. She then proceeded to say that my clothes had "A SLIGHT ODER" they were just washed folded and bagged not even 48 hours before bringing them in. I checked my bags and nothing was touched or unfolded, like they hadn't checked a single item. If you didn't want to buy anything from me just say you are passing on my items do not DEGRADE me by saying my items SMELL when I know they do not. Absolutely ridiculous and I put back my items and did not purchase them because of the way I was treated. Absolutely unbelievable. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING to this location. All the girls were rude and rolled eyes and did not seem like they wanted to be there. Except the girl who was greeting and counting people entering/exiting the store and the manager girl who tried to apologize about the "SMELL" and say maybe I had put them in the bag when they weren't completely dry. Learn some customer service and have talking points when buying and selling clothes. Absolutely DO NOT DEGRADE a customer or seller because you are passing on their items or if you do not have the time to go through a significant amount of items. read more

Definitely don't go in thinking you'll get a decent amount for your clothes if you go to sell. I took in a bag full of clothes and got $15 for 5 items (one of them being a brand new American Eagle flannel with the tag still on it that retailed for $45) I decided to give them another try the other day and brought in two full garbage bags. I received a lovely $13.36 for 8 items. All of which included Victoria's Secret, American Eagle, and Forever 21. Definitely never selling to them again. read more

My experience at Plato's has never been a good one. I've always been one to take good care of my clothing, so with that, when I'm selling back its a guarantee that my items are going to look nice, be currently trending, and in good condition. I've taken small bags of really nice, almost new clothes, some still with price tags! and without fail, they take like 3 items and give the rest back (including the tagged items) I've looked through the store, and have found some really worn, ugly items that they have to sell, and that really disappoints me when I go in and try to sell my gently used items. Would give zero stars if I could. During my visit here, I brought a large bag of NEW, not used, not gently used, but NEW, clothes. Some items still had tags on them. Let's not forget to mention items were from brands like Express, Nike, Torrid, etc. While waiting for these twelve year olds to sort through my clothes, I decided to browse the aisles of disgusting smelling WORN clothing items. When I could take no more of the wretched smell, I proceeded to the register to see what they were offering me for my clothes. Any guesses?..... SIX whole dollars. They "passed" on my other items for being "worn" and being "selective" with what they choose to buy. I am assuming by "selective" they mean only buying shirts with holes/armpit stains and sandals with dirty TOE IMPRINTS on them. Disgusting. I even saw a pair of shoes with NO shoe laces.?? Aside from the rancid items, the customer service is also horrible. No one greets you when you walk in, employees look like they don't want to be there and are majorly inconvenienced to have to help you. I can't believe my brand new designer clothing items were passed on but they are selling extremely worn and dirty items. I will never ever be back here again. read more

I came in to sell some clothes. They didn't accept anything I brought except for 1 item. I was shocked, because all of my items were very high quality (Steve Madden shoes, BCBG) and everything had only been worn once if at all. I waited forever to helped and the girl who finally helped me was EXTREMELY nasty with me. When I asked why a particular pair of practically brand new Steve Madden's were rejected, she claimed there was a "stain" on them (no, they were suede and the fabric was simply brushed another way, making it look darker) They offered me 7 dollars for one particular pair of shoes. I said no thanks, took my items and got the hell out of there. If you're looking to make a few extra bucks by selling old clothes, don't bother; even if they do take your items, they give you close to nothing for them. And if you're looking to find some cool unique used items, don't bother either. All they have is old Hollister and ghetto garbage. Absolutely wouldn't ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

i'd rate this a 2.5 if i could. the staff are super nice and professional, even when they're rejecting the clothes you're trying to sell to them :) they carry lots of hollister, american eagle, old navy- lots of knit tops + non-designer jeans; a small rack of designer denim (mostly 7 for mankind when i was there). lots of scarves, hats, belts, but not as many dresses/skirts as knit tops. the clothes are organized by size + also by color at times. women's section is larger than men's. good hours- open till 9 on weekdays. read more

Great place for unique clothes. Unique because most are last couple of years out dated styles. But I love it. They carry women's and men's gently used clothing, shoes, jewelry, and handbags. They also buy clothes from customers which could be a gamble. They don't give you much for the clothes but I mean it's used what do you expect? Their prices are decent. Very neatly organized by size and color which helps tremendously if you are looking for something particular. Staff is normally always welcome except for this past week my sister and I went shopping for our soon vacation and were both treated badly by one of the girls. I was looking down a isle and she stood 2 feet from me staring at me so I asked if i was in her way and she rudely said "I just need to move these" so I said ok I guess I'll come back and look so while I walked away she shoved all the clothes towards the other side. It was definitely something that could have been done at a later time rather than while I was looking. She did the exact same thing to my sister. Hovered over her like she was in the way. Very rude. I meant to call and complain after but it slipped my mind. The counter help was friendly as usual that day. I'll definitely be back because I normally enjoy my shopping trips here but next time I'll speak up if I'm treated rudely again. read more

At first I really love the story. I always seem to find decent clothes for very reasonable price. Then, for whatever reason, it seemed like the staff and quality of the store plummeted. My first "interesting" experience there was one one of the male staff members was talking to a customer about his genitals. Freaked me out a bit but I tried to brush it off. The next time I came back he wasn't there and I haven't seen him since. After that experience, I started noticing more and more each time I went in, the staff seemed very rude. I can't tell you how many time I've asked for help finding something and have been brushed off. The employees always seem to be pissed off and very unhappy to work there. The aisles are very close together, crowded, and it's extremely hard to find stuff. Every time I go into the store, it changes and there's no signs marking what's what. With staff that's unwilling to help you, it's practically impossible to find what you want. read more

These workers are EXTREMELY rude. It is beyond words can describe, I have never been somewhere where people are so aggravated and feel bothered when asked for help. You should not work in a place where you have to deal with customers and be sad, you leave your personal problems at home and provide the best service you can. There are many girls I see every time I go in and they always look at my clothes, I even go in with clothes I have never worn with tags still on and they tell me they are "a little worn". The west side location provides much better customer service. There should be someone older and not a teenager or young adult who hires or runs the place because this place is just awful. Seller Beware! We dropped clothes in the afternoon (Abercrombie, American Eagle, dresses with tags still on them). They said they were behind and it would take a couple of hours. Turned up the next morning to shop with our credit and they told us they had donated the clothes. They have a policy that if you leave clothes overnight they donate them????!!!!! I am currently in the store and they are looking over my clothes, so this review isn't sour grapes on what they did or did not take....but I can about guess the outcome. This place is REALLY low end. Their ads talk about designer brands but their inventory looks like goodwill...forever 21 is the highest end I saw..maybe they're geared to a teenage crowd, but it seems to be primarily thin, cheap t-shirts and plastic costume jewelry. Maybe if you're shopping for a teenager it would be ok, but don't bother shopping or selling here if you wear anything better than the lowest end. And it smells awful!! I used to love this place, but I recently had an incident that made me think otherwise. I had gone into Plato's just like any other day, I paid in cash for my items. You could tell that the cashier was new since she was getting "advice" from her coworkers around her. She was really nice and polite, the thing was, she never gave me back my change. She had the cash in her hands and I though that she had handed it back to me. I didn't realize that I had not gotten anything back until I had gotten home. As soon as I realized that I called up the store and spoke to what seemed to be the manager. He said that he would call me back as soon as they checked her cash register. I never received a call back, and never received my change back. I don't think I'll be visiting for a good while. Always double check for your change! read more

Probably the most absurd thing I've heard from a resale shop, especially one that has racks full of trashy, obviously worn down clothing upon further examination. People watch out for the dirty blonde , tall skinny dude whos always there, cux he will make you feel uncomfortable until you stop going.! & I've only been there 5 TIMES.!! I absolutely LOVE LOVE Plato's Closet in Albuquerque! I have been to other Plato's & I would give this Plato's a 10 no question! Very CLEAN!!! My husband is stationed here at Kirtland and It is our FAVORITE Plato's Closet by far!! The staff is Friendly, honest and very helpful! I love that Plato's Closet offers a Military double stamp for the Customer Stamp Cards! Fantastic selection of clothes, very good condition! They have the best selection of shoes! Every time that I have sold to Plato's I always get more then what I anticipate! I would definitely recommend Plato's Closet to anyone who loves fashion! I went to the new location on corrales road for the first time today to sell some clothes I have that are hardly worn and taking up space, my trip was no more then a waste of gas. As I'm waiting for the employee to look through my several items I start to notice Walmart brand and target brand clothes on the racks. They ended up rejecting all my Abercrombie, Nike, hollister, vans etc clothes. What a disappointing first experience, I will never be back and wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. read more

I went to sell some stuff there and amongst my items I had a pair of shoes that I bought a while ago. I paid $50 for these booties and ended up NEVER wearing them. So I took these shoes still in the box to them and they bought 5 items and gave me $14. At night I realized one of the items they bought were those shoes. I felt $3 for those shoes, weren't worth it. So I called them back the next morning and they apparently don't have a reverse process for me to get my shoes back and give them back their $3. The manager tells me i'd have to buy back my own shoes that i sold them for their price now. How can you be running a store and not have a reverse process for things you sell or buy from there. And how are you gonna offer someone $3 for brand new booties f heads? What kind of salesmanship do you guys have running a business and not saying, ok, we bought this item for this much and this item for this much. forget you guys, you just lost my business for buying and selling! read more
