Loved this place when my gf showed me it. Went a few times lately got a few things. Last time I went. We'll the young lady that was supposed to do my return. From the day before I had no receipt so she said we'll have to watch the video so I found the purchase history on my phone. She said no receipt we cant do it. Ok so why say we'd have to watch the video for. But no big deal but the comment about my daughter having down syndrome. We'll that's the problem. beyond angry at the manager here. I was accused of stealing something I clearly did not steal and the evidence they were giving to me made absolutely no sense and I was on the verge of tears. It was clear I had nothing on me and she continued to grill me as if she was certain I did. along with every time I have sold to them. I sold them a BRAND NEW lulu coat and they gave me $15 for it. i am so incredibly angry. I hope this place goes out of business and expect an apology from management. read more

If it was possible to give a "No Star" rating on this establishment I would. I only wear new, stylish, designer label ex: Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani Exchange etc. and very rarely are they worn more 3-4 times. Took some clothes that no longer fit me for an evaluation and I was told they did not meet their "standards". While they were evaluating my clothes, I looked around to see what was for sale and could not find "One thing" I would purchase. Used to love coming here. I was in at the beginning of Dec. I believe. The girl at the front was extremely rude about the jeans I brought in to sell. Said "low rise jeans aren't what we are looking for they aren't in right now" she then proceeded to tell me that they were also too worn. Well the jokes on you, I bought two of the four from Plato's about a month prior and had never even worn them. Well I kept that part to myself. I said ok can you just donate them cause they don't fit. She condescendingly said the donation box was full. I said well you can throw them away then because they don't fit. She said their trash was full too and kind of smiled. I was like wow she's really enjoying this. I could tell she was really frustrated because I had asked to go to the dressing room twice. In her defense it was morning and I was one of the first customers in the door but for the endless amounts of money I've spent here over the years you'd think they wouldn't be so snotty and rude. My sister said she's noticed the rudeness lately as well. I won't be back and neither will she. Neither will our teen daughters. They think she acted like that because I'm "old" and she was annoyed. I love Plato's Closet, and this one is probably one of the best I've been to. It was very well organized and had a lot of good clothes. There was even more selection here than in some of the ones in St. Louis. I was able to find several tops that were cute, classy, and in great shape. One of the staff on hand was EXTREMELY friendly, cheerful, and helpful. She welcomed us and explained their current special when we walked in the door, checked on us a few times while we were shopping, and when I was shopping while holding clothes to try on later, she asked if I wanted her to hold them for me! I'm not a fan of overly interactive staff, but I'd rather them be that way than unhelpful. I'm definitely planning on going here again! read more

I think it's interesting how this store will not buy back hardly worn clothes from popular stores, but they have some of the rattiest clothes on their racks! I've been there only a few times and have found one top in decent enough shape to buy! I would not waste my time again "selling" clothes to this store, or shopping for anything decent! read more

This store STINKS if you want to sell clothes! I have tried numerous times to sell clothes to them (pants, shirts, sweaters, belts, jackets, etc.) in varying conditions (some older, some semi-new, and some quite new). They hardly ever decide to buy clothes back because they "are not in style" or are not in season! I have always brought name-brand items, but they never buy them back! Or, on the rare occasion that they actually do decide to buy them, they only offer $3 or something pathetic. Overall, this place isn't too bad if you're looking to buy clothes (though some items on the racks are quite old and ratty looking), but if you're in the market to sell, don't waste your time here!! read more

This place is ridiculous most of these clothes are not better then the ones you find at goodwill except they do NOT have goodwill prices. They really try to sell used clothes for top dollar. They try to sell clothes with bleach stains on them for 25$. I will never again come here left went to goodwill and found a pair of Nike pants for 6$! read more

Plato's closet is awful. They are really slow and they totally rip you off. Plus they'll give you back clothes and say they had some damage when there wasn't any damage at all, and half the clothes in there are really crappy. read more

Plato's is I guess an okay place if you are looking to buy, some items anyway, however if you are looking to sell it isn't. I took clothes in that my husband got from the buckle but had outgrown because he is a bodybuilder. The clothing at the bottom was not touched and was still neatly folded. I know it was drawing near the time for them to stop accepting clothes for the night, but 3 people came in after me and if they were that busy, I would have returned. Instead I think they were to busy talking to actually be thorough and wanted to get to the next set of containers. Their loss. I wouldn't recommend that store to anyone else. read more

I came to Platos Closet- Columbia to sell some clothes I recently obtained from a semi-fashionable grandmother. They wouldn't buy my brand new clothing (with tags still on them) because they were 'too new' and they needed a receipt for everything .When I explained they were gifts and frustrated, asked them if I could just walk back in with the tags off (being the only difference between buyable and not buyable) she still refused to buy from me and even snuck in the comment that she would remember those items and won't buy them in the future. I couldn't believe that one. I will never be coming back to this PC to sell my clothes. read more

Platos in Columbia,Mo is the best store to shop in Missouri or in Florida. The prices are not only unbeatable, but they are incredibly low. There are only designer, high end, or very well preserved clothing, shoes and jewelry offered. The staff are very friendly, helpful, professional and sincere about it. The manager, Lauren, is so customer oriented; she remembers customers by name and styles they like. The store is very organized and neat. If you want an unbelievably great deal for high end designer fashion and accessories, you must check out Platos in Columbia on Broadway. I wouldn't shop anyplace else! read more

It always makes me laugh when I hear people complain about this store because they feel they aren't offered enough money when selling clothes. Just think about it. When something is pre-owned it loses much of its value. Plato's needs to offer their used clothes at a price significantly lower than retail in order to make customers actually want to buy their goods. Even if something is "brand new," "never been worn," etc., why would anyone want to pay close to retail for something when they could just go buy it new in a store with more sizing and color options for only a few dollars more? That being said, Plato's still needs to make a profit, so ultimately, they just cannot offer you very much for your pre-owned clothes, even if they are in very good condition. This store is not a way for you to make easy cash. This store is a place for you to get a little cash in return for cleaning out your closet, which you can turn around and use as an additional discount on already good deals on gently-worn pre-owned clothing. I find that this allows me to keep my wardrobe constantly changing at a fraction of the price that buying clothes new at retail price would cost me (but not for free. Nothing's free). For me, it is a win-win. People always think their used crap is worth more than it is. But it's just not. If you want to make money, get a job. read more
