I'm from LA where I thrift all my clothes all the time! had a lot of designer and cute things for the lowest prices i've ever seen. one of my downsides is that they didn't have any skirts displayed at all, which was odd, considering it was a large store. i also asked one worker for help to find an item i put on hold and she wasn't much help, so i asked another worker and she was the most helpful--so thank you to the girl with purple hair for being the best and finding my clothes! read more

I was recommended and told they needed plus size clothing and I had GREAT condition clothing in worn or even touched tbh. She goes we took 15-20 items and said we will be giving you 24 dollars and I was so confused bc most of the tags I had legit said $20+on it- and they were so bland attitude and service overall. just go ahead and sell on marketplace, or depop etc. she said Plato's they takes 50-60% of what the cost is for the item and give you a small percentage of that. i took my stuff back. This place was rude! They had some very trashy worn clothes. I had brand new never worn teen clothes and they said they wouldn't even consider them. New Jean shorts and jeans. Cleanly washed. They told me they were styles that didn't sell well..although they had racks of similar clothing! I have sold to used clothing store hundreds of times and never have been fully rejected. Damn. We've been using Plato's closet in various locations for years. This location is straight ratchet. The store smelled funky and good luck finding something that wasn't ripped, stained, old AF, or from the goodwill from 3 seasons ago. The jewelry was tangled worse than a box of Christmas lights. The buyers clearly don't take a damn bit of pride in their jobs bc the stuff in this store was a hot mess. Truly. A hot mess. The displays were mainly items from Walmart. Come on now. Get it together, y'all. I know people in Corpus dress better than what this location offers for sale. And don't even get me started on the damn Payless shoes up in there. ETA: the more I think about it, the saltier I am getting. I have had stuff rejected that has been current season with tags still on but y'all literally have stuff on the rack, right now, that is ripped and stained AF. Don't believe me.... just go look at the men's shirts. Some of the stuff is only suitable for rags. I did find what I thought what was a great pair of lululemon leggings but to my dismay, they're junk. Not just one rip, but 2, one on the seam and one inside the crotch panel. This place has the worst people working there . Every time I go In they have a horrible attitude. I went in today and girl was rude and very dismissive. When she told me my "offer " I kindly declined . She then said "you can take your stuff ". Didn't hand me anything ,didn't get my items out of bin ,just ignores me and went to working on computer. my husband and I haven't been to this store in over 3 weeks. The last time we had went i returned a pair of jeans that were too small and traded them for a different pair of pants. When we got home I realized I didn't get my pants so I went back the following day and I talked to the manager. She looked at camera footage and saw I never got my pants but still refused me a refund. I ended up having to buy a pair of different jeans. Keep in mind since then my husband and I haven't been in over 3 weeks!! This morning Plato's closet charged 99$ to our card they had on file from us shopping there!! THEY HAVE CRAPPY CLOTHES! I went in to the Platos on Airline. I was going to return some items that I didn't care for after all. So I go in at around 8:30 pm. I knew they were going to close, so I tried to hurry up the process by having ,y receipt and whatever else needed from me. Well the " manager" in charge was a girl that was not happy either with her life or her job. Anyways she was rude and very ugly to me. Like if I was bothering her for doing this return for me. So whatever girl that worked on 1/8/19 and was in charge, you my dear did a horrible job at customer service. I will never step foot in that terrible store ever. I was surprised to see the prices for the brand and condition of the clothes. I truly felt line I was walking through goodwill racks. They have gone downhill over the past couple years. A lot of the clothing they choose to resale is not in good condition. The customer service is poor. I remember getting good clothes at a reasonable price from considerate salespeople. Platos Closet this will be the LAST time I bring my gently used clothing to you. Normally there is the sweetest young girl working that makes conversation, and makes you feel welcome. However, The lady working today was flat out rude. She spoke to both myself and lady in front of me as if we were beneath her. I was as nice as I could have been. But after killing her with kindness and continually getting more and more of an "I'm better than you/you don't matter/i hate my job" rude attitude. You can forget getting my business.. I just moved in from out of town, I've never seen a Plato's this big! Sam helped me out while I was shopping and she was AMAZING! She noticed I was struggling with all of the clothes I had already picked out and offered to hold it up front for me. After that, every item I decided to pick off the rack she immediately grabbed from me and also took up to the front for me. When I was ready to try clothes on she grabbed my hold bin for me and set me up in the dressing room. From start to finish she was there for anything I needed. The rest of the staff was warm and super friendly as well, including the young man who was in training that checked me out. Fantastic experience, I will return!! read more

I'm new to Corpus Christi from Dallas and I'm use to excellent, happy, smiling, friendly service from Plato's Closet, but this location is without all of those. When I brought it to the young lady's attention she said she's here for college and just handed me my bag. Then her and another young lady behind the counter couldn't wait until I walked 10 seconds to get out of the store to talk about me. If they had that much energy on mouthing a smile on their faces and greeting each customer this store would get more stars from everyone. The selection is great but I won't return due to the lack of customer service and after I brought it to their attention the lack of an attempt to try and rectify the situation!!! I hope the owner reads the reviews because as soon as another great resale shop opens this location will go out of business. read more

I'm going to start this review by saying that I absolutely LOVE platos closet but this one was just horrible. As background I was in town from Houston visiting my friend here in corpus (so I'm used to the great customer service that I receive out there) and she wanted to go sell some items and I wanted to shop. So we got her stuff together and put it in a sturdy trash bag and we're on our way. I'll be honest - the store was absolutely beautiful but the staff were not. We walked in around 2 pm on a Monday and they had about 3 girls working. No one greeted us when we walked in and I was able to do a complete once round the store without being acknowledged. All three girls were in the cashwrap and two of them were talking amongst themselves. The girl who was checking in buys was the least helpful though. As I'm writing this review I'm kicking myself for not getting her name. She was very rude and we had to wait a good couple of minutes before she would even talk to us and when she did she told us that when people come in to sell they bring their items in a bag or a box. This comment confused me because we brought our stuff inside of a trash bag that we did not tie closed because we both know how difficult it is to open a tied trash bag. I told her that our stuff was in a bag and she informed us that it had to be in a reusable bag or a box and then told us that we could purchase a Plato's Closet bag for $1.2 or leave and come back with our items in a different bag. There were two girls behind us with a ton more items than us and all in trashbags so I think I speak for them also when I say this store specific policy is bs. I was obviously very bothered with the service but at least they gave us a very sarcastic and rude goodbye. I've never been to a Plato's were I have been turned away from selling and I've never EVER been turned away because my items were in a trash bag. Very unimpressed and I hope their management learns how to properly train their employees on customer service. If I could give one star I would do it in a heartbeat. read more

I love this store and usually have a successful time finding things and checking out but not today.. I was very upset and was treated rude and unfair by the staff here... after being rung up at the register the girl asked for my ID I didn't have it because it was in the car she said I can go get it and come back... I quickly did.. came back but had to wait because she canceled out my order and helped the one customer in line that was behind me... so then she said someone can help me and has to ring me up... I ask to speak to the manager as a different girl is ringing me up for the second time and explained how inconvenient this was and that the issue wasn't the ID the issue was her employee canceling me out and now I have to go thru the process again when I was already rung up.. I have twin 12months old sons I rarely get out and haven't been to the store in months.. the manager proceeded to talk to me like an idiot and kept repeating their policy about showing ID with card purchases and that they work with the police and said sorry she hopes my day gets better I said my day was fine til this happened.. the other customers were laughing at me I was upset and I don't appreciate that at all I won't be going back there and wish I had just left the items I purchased there. read more

I don't thrift a lot but when I do, I go more for the atmosphere. I went a few days ago and a woman named Gill was extremely rude to not only me and my girlfriend, but to the following customers as well. She was dismissive and shouldn't be working in customer service at all. All this girl wanted to do was talk to her associates about the gossip at school or something. When we had picked out items and got in line she wouldn't even look us in the face when we tried asking questions, I was really trying to be patient but when it seems all they want to do is put you down for shopping there then why is it even a buisness in the first place. Absolutely horrible shop, smelly and stained clothes, and that Gill girl deserves a meat pie in the face. It would be scary if she was a manager there. Great place to shop! Staff always welcomes customers and asks if anyone needs help! Endless options and great picks everywhere. They've really come up in the past couple years since they've been down here in CC. Genuinely wish a manager/ owner would actually read these reviews and apply the constructive criticism but it is obvious that they don't, considering this location has had the same issues since 2015. I brought a laundry basket full of expensive, nice, gently worn clothes and even clothes that still have the tags on them. After 30 minutes of waiting in the store for them to go through my clothes (I was the only person selling mind you) I was told by the picker that she couldn't buy any of my clothes because there was an "odor". I was shocked because these clothes haven't been worn since I washed them so I asked about the odor. She said "they smelled like they've been in a closet"..... I wanted to say that they're obviously going to smell like they've "been in a closet" considering they have indeed.... been in a closet. She proceeded to tell me that she bagged up the clothes they would consider buying and that I needed to wash them first then bring them back. There was about 4 items in the bag, so I would probably get only about $12 from the sale. Meanwhile the clothes they do have in store are stained, ripped, and extremely outdated. I decided to take my business to Threads on Everhart (because I've never had any sort of issue with their customer service and I'd rather support a small business) but the story doesn't stop there. Once I got to threads I looked in my basket to find a cardigan sitting on top that was not mine. I have never owned it and it definitely got put in my basket from someone else's. When I was inspecting the cardigan my roommate and I realized it was covered in PEE. It absolutely reaked. When I went to take it back to platos I stood at the counter for what felt like forever without being acknowledged. When I explained what happened to the employee she was rude and questioned me about the cardigan. She then said thanks for bringing it back and did not acknowledge the fact that they put a cardigan that wasn't mine and was covered in urine on my clean clothes. Safe to say that I will from now on be taking my business of both selling and buying to Threads and I think everyone else should as well. If I wanted to sell my clothes for basically nothing I might as well donate them to a shelter or goodwill. The only positive to visiting platos was one employee with pink hair that I've never seen before was actually very nice. I suggest that employee quits before they turn into a rude zombie like the rest of the employees. read more

Good concept, but there are many things wrong with this place. I have tried to sell here many times. But recently I brought over 40 pieces of clothing in and they only took three pieces, and offered me $9, telling me that the rest was "out of style." What sucks is, if one of the girls who takes a five second glance at your clothes doesn't have good style or judgement, your clothes will not get bought. This is especially wrong because most of the girls that work here have that tacky Corpus Christi style, (the same kind of girls who think 2010 miss me jeans, patterned tops, cardigans and chunky colorful necklaces are in). They themselves dont have a very good judgement of whats "in style." At least not out of this small town and in the real world of fashion. To test this theory, I brought in three items I bought previously from them and they also said it was out of style. They told me they were looking for denim. Yet I brought over 8 pairs of pants, all Hollister, american eagle, and levi, (which is what they told me they wanted) yet they stated none was good. I also brought in a few pairs of mens shoes, like Jordan's, (which they also said they wanted) and sandals. They took none of that either, but I sold the Jordan's on a Facebook group later on for over $60. Ironically, two women who were shopping in the store heard our conversation and saw me struggling with my big bags of clothes as I left and stopped me in the parking lot; they ended up buying over half of my clothing. They too agreed with how they don't have very good judgement. At the end of the day I put the rest on depop and polyvore and sold 4 more pieces instantly. So they dont really know what people are looking for. Looking around in the store you can see the evidence of all this, they have a lot of worn out pieces, things with many clear stains, holes and cuts. I even saw some of the worst ugg boots I have ever seen a few months ago that looked like they had been used to hunt in the jungle with many holes and almost grey (when they were supposed to be light brown) but it was evident the girls took them just because they were uggs. So unless you dress like the girls here as new wave disney channel show teenage characters, or someone from shake it up, (or would like to dress like one), I wouldn't suggest bringing your clothing here. Also, I understand that the store is overly crowded, but some of the employees here just dont understand that. I had one girl who kept running back and forth to place items on the rack and rushed right past me as if I was in her way. She was running around so fast she made contact with me at least three time (once on my ass which was weird) without being polite at all. They will put the action of getting the clothes to the rack over letting the customer shop in peace. read more

Truly a horrible resale store. Not impressed with the items or the staff. The items were subpar at best, a lot of items that were dirty and damaged were priced extremely high for what they actually looked like they were worth. I waited for over 45 min for the staff to go through items when there was ONE person in front of me. No one was in the buying area going through the items the lady brought in for a good 25/30 min. They were too busy trying to shut down the registers before close and putting other clothing items away. Isn't that something you do AFTER closing hours? Not only that, I wasn't impressed that you have to wait inside the store for them to even buy your clothing. A little waiting area would've been nice instead of standing around the waiting area like a helicopter for almost an hour. The staff should definitely work on their customer service as well. There was maybe one friendly young lady there. If you're looking for a good resale store, this isn't it. I strongly suggest you check out your locally owned resale stores instead. read more

Took my business casual clothes there and some nautica jeans. They said my collard shirts were "too dressy" for them. She also said there was "nothing wrong" with the clothes meaning they are all in good condition. They wouldn't take my nautica jeans because they were dry cleaned and starched. Are you serious?! Will not return here. I brought in a very large bag of clothes. The person who greeted me was not very kind and very rushed. Slightly impolite regarding that they don't accept clothes in bags. I was unaware of that policy as I had never been there before so they made a one time thing for me. I was told 25 minutes for waiting in store and one hour for leaving. I chose to stay in because I had time to kill. Reaching the 25 minute mark, I checked to see if anything was there for me and nothing yet. And then another 10 minutes I went up and asked and the woman working said "If you don't see your last name, it's not done" in a very snotty tone of voice. So I waited another 20 minutes or so when I finally saw my name. After waiting for over an hour, they finally gave me an offer. On 1 article of clothing for $2.45!!!! I waited for about 65 minutes total just for them to waste my time. My clothes aren't good enough and that's fine. I took my business else where. I will never shop there again. Absolutely ridiculous to make me wait that long when you took clothes in and checked the same people out who came in 10-15 minutes after me. I'd like to add as well, that I saw multiple articles of clothing with holes, tears, broken straps. They also have a very limited selection for anyone who is not incredibly thin.
