This is the worst Plato's location do not sell here. I have come about 5 times in my whole life and I think the total amount I've accumulated from here was $20.00. The place has all this clothing that looks just like mine- but then they don't take mine. I have name brands. Designer brands. Unused brand new clothing. All kinds of sizes and colours and styles. And they literally don't ever take it. And don't get me started on the girls who work there. They're all rude. They're all mean. They're sitting there with their little fake smiles saying "unfortunately we weren't able to take anything today, we're being super selective" but then they take like the most basic ugly t shirt. I took about 40 articles of men's clothing there yesterday (mostly t-shirts and golf shirts). I inspected every item to make sure they were free of tears, holes and stains. They have friendly and patient staff. They do let you know the reason(s) why or why not they decide to purchase anything from your buy. They also have nice presentations and a fairly clean store with a pretty good selection of clothing and shoes. The clothing are priced a little bit high for used items, in my opinion, especially the activewear, but they do have some pretty cute items. They are quite busy and always have a lot of people coming in and out. The only problem I have is my missing shoe. From the merchandise they didn't want to buy from me, one of the pairs of shoes I have is missing one of the pair. I'm upset about this because I can't donate a perfectly good pair of shoes because one is missing. I would just highly suggest you check your bags or bins before leaving the store and not rely on the staff to have everything back in your bag/bin, especially if they are busy. read more

Im really upset I go in there with what I believe are clothes that are very on trend like Zara and abercrombie, but they never take that stuff and im not surprised because 90% of the store is shein. Tip: Try to go as early as you can (once it opens of course). I stopped by 5pm after work, and Plato's Closet was no longer taking items to "buy"/sort. I had a ton of different clothes - winter clothes, summer clothes, business clothes, etc. They accepted the H&M, Forever21, Zara, Princess Polly and SHEIN clothes, even though the more business-casual clothes were nicer and better value to take from me. So the other reviews are accurate in that they cater towards the teen-trendy fashion and fast fashion clothes. They took my boyfriends clothes which included some banana republic items, but they gave us $6-7 for a really nice blazer and green bomber jacket. Both of those could probably have been sold for $50+ on a different site but I guess the perk of Plato's Closet is you don't have to make that effort of creating the listing and talking to different buyers. The downside is that you get way less $ than the real value. So take your pick. The second time I dropped the items off with my boyfriend, we got there at 10am (when it opened). They texted us about 1.5hrs later saying they were done. They shared the itemized receipt with the $ per item for things they wanted to keep. Once we accepted, they gave us the cash and the rest of our clothes that they weren't taking, back in the original bags. I disagree with one of the reviews because the clothes were not wrinkled or messy back in the bag (then again does that indicate they didn't look through some of them??) I think things are inconsistent, which is understandable given the subjectivity in that job. One clerk who would have taken some clothes may not have made the same decisions as another clerk. Different clerks may have a different procedure or have a certain quota. Who knows how it works there. For selling, it was good to make some money and cut out some of the effort of selling those clothes online. For buying, none of the clothes on the racks seemed appealing, and close to the full price you'd find for that item in the original store. read more

I did like their selection and one woman seemed nice but the younger one was just sighing loudly and rolling her eyes every time I looked through a rack of clothes if the hangers weren't perfectly aligned. I mean I didn't mess anything up or let anything fall just moved them slightly to see the next item but she made it very clear she was annoyed. If you don't like working there maybe find another job. I read a lot of reviews beforehand so I expected the attitude since everyone complains about it. The owner should really think about who they are hiring. I am a total convert! I am a complete germaphobe and at first the thought of Plato's closet was not something I was comfortable with... But do not be confused, Plato's closet is not a thrift store. It has 0 resemblance. Plato's closet is a clean, sanitary, and SMART way to shop!! I don't know about you, but there are only a few things that hang in my wardrobe that I would never get rid of, that I could wear over and over again and never feel tired of it. Plato's closet helps keep your closet full of variety while not emptying out your wallet. I make it a monthly habit to bring some items that I no longer feel "attached to" and see a little bit of a financial benefit and then stick around and shop. I drove 30 minutes to get to the store and then had to wait 45 minutes for them to "sort my stuff" which then resulted in them taking one pair of swim trunks from me for 3 dollars. this place is a joke. I wasted my time!!!! also the workers are always so rude here and act like you are just bothering them. the place didn't take any of my items when they have the worst out dated clothes there, the clothing selection is horrible. I showed up after work with a box of nicely folded clothes, all high end designer brands. I was told that there was a two hour wait for the staff to go through my items and they'd text me when ready. Their time estimate was accurate. They'd selected a few items and on average offered me $5/item on the spot. I've had an amazing experience with Plato's closet on multiple occasions. They take their time to make sure they are buying quality items and also fashionable. If you follow their website and bring in items from brands they like, they will pay you a reasonable amount of money. I am seeing other reviews here that are negative but people need to keep in mind this is a consignment store and they (and no consignment store) is going to pay you tons for likely used goods that may or may not be in perfect shape or condition. Also, the alternative to getting some money for your items is better than donating them for free (although always happy to do so and help others in need!), so take it with a grain of salt for the others who were displeased with their payments. If you are bringing items to consign keep in mind there may be others waiting before you and so it may take sometime (that seems to be expected, in my opinion!). They will keep you informed via text and you will know when to return to the store. Plan accordingly and run some errands or have a meal. I am grateful as a buyer and seller that they do take their time sorting the items and making sure everything is good and high quality. The staff was very kind and helpful. What do you do when you have clothes you want to get rid of? Donate to to the Goodwill where they re-sell your donation, or try your luck at Platos closet where you can trade in gently used clothes for cash. I dropped off a bag of at least 20-30 items of what I thought were trendy and nice clothes. They kept 3 items, I got back $3 and change, so about $1 per item...something like that. The thing is, you have teenagers sorting thru the clothes and I guess they pick what they like? So the experience is completely subjective. Next time, I'll find a women's charity so I can donate to a specific cause of my choosing. read more

Bought a few items there that were marked on sale. My mistake for not checking the items until I got home. I was also told I could not return any items, so tough luck. I'll include a picture of a dress I bought from them that, imo they shouldn't have been selling in the first place in this condition. I've always wanted to try Plato's Closet and try to get a few bucks back before donating. I brought one laundry basket full of clothes -- a few old homecoming/prom dresses which I thought would sell at least. But I think they're looking for more younger/"on trend". The items that DID sell where items that were brand new or still had tags attached to it... (which was at the top of my pile) The rest of my clothes looked like it wasn't touched. I'm not too familiar with the pricing but I was fine with what they chose to give me. My experience was alright and I did get a few bucks, my rating is mostly based off of the wait time. I dropped off around 1 but didn't get a text back until closer to 5. Drove an hour to get there with a large variety of cute name brand summer and fall clothes, some even with tags still on. Waited an hour, they accepted one item from the top for $4 and didn't even look through my whole bin. My items were still folded exactly as I had left them. They have far too many "buys" than "sales" and it shows. They do have a large variety to shop through though. Very poor customer service; during my last visit I encountered the rudest and loudest associate. When I attempted to report to manager the manager overlooked the rude behavior and blamed it on being short staffed. I report the store to the corporate office and was told that the stores are independently operated so I would have handle with store manager. read more

If you're trying to buy second hand clothes, I would go here since it's nicely organized, clean, and have a variety of options but if you are coming to sell clothes, I wouldn't recommend, because they only take clothes on higher brand, up-to-date fashion kinda clothes. They only take few items but that means it's better for the customers who are trying to buy. They also have thorough check-in (have to register through their website/link using ur driver license and ID) which looked more professional so I would come here if I'm not in a rush. Also, they processed my clothes within an hour so I would say they are still efficient in working! Kudos to the workers :-) Also, there's plenty of parking spaces since it shares with other stores (e.g.marshalls) in the complex :-) maybe u can drop off your clothes and look around in marshalls then pick it up after an hour! Also, near the planet fitness (the other end of parking lot) there's clothes donation truck (monday-sunday til 5pm), so no need to find goodwill to drop off the clothes that u don't want!!!! I visited this store a few days ago to sell back some clothes. I have been selling here for a few years now. I brought my stuff in a plastic trash bag which has been totally fine in the past. When I brought my stuff in, I was told by the associates how this is not accepted because you have a new policy due to covid that the items be in a reusable bag. I have a few issues with this. The first is I would love to be enlightened on how exactly demanding I put my stuff in one bag into another is stopping the spread of Covid or actually doing anything to make anyone safer? This has got to be one of the more idiotic policies I've seen come out of this pandemic. Secondly, I called before I came to the store because I did not want to drive all the way out to your store which is a 30 minute drive for me. During that phone call the associate could have communicated this policy (regardless of how stupid the policy is so I don't waste my time driving out). Lastly, when I got there, my only option according to the associates was to go spend money on reusable bags at marshals. Which again, I'm failing to see how that is any safer than just having the clothes in a trash bag that has not been touched by multiple people at a public store? When I expressed my displeasure because I had called beforehand, I got a condescending response that the info was on the website and Instagram. I don't know who checks IG for store polices but that response was laughable. I also checked the website and there is no info upfront stating this "policy." Then she told me how it's been a policy since March and I should have just known because it's been 6 months? But that is assuming I had been in since March which I found incredibly rude and presumptuous. If you're wondering whether the 1.5 - 2.5 ratings are justified, wonder no more: they are! I read the reviews before going. But I thought, it can't be that bad! It was. Don't bother dropping off your select items because they still have an inventory of older clothes that apparently they can't sell -- even with 50% off. So while you may have fantastic items that you think they'd want, don't get your hopes up. They'll only take up to five pieces and give you $2 - $4 for each. Waste of time and gas! read more

They charge an extra 4% fee (for credit or debit cards) in addition to the state and local taxes that you are required to pay. Not a good experience. Quoted a 2 hour wait, ended up being almost 4 hours. Only took 3 items for $10 when mostly everything was new with tags. They needed sports wear and majority of my clothes were, then they said they weren't taking those ? They want you to bring in clothes nicely folded and clean then throw ur clothes back in your bag all wadded and wrinkly. I visited this store located at 13005 Lee Jackson Hwy Fairfax, VA 22033, on Tuesday May 10, 2022 around 1:00pm. I drove 40 minutes to get to this location because I had been there before and had a pleasant experience. I recently went through my closet and did a major purge on shoes. Some still brand new and the rest, lightly worn. This resulted in 2 large trash bags full of shoe boxes, approximately 12 or 13 pairs. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a young lady who was processing some bins and shuffling them around, I could tell they were pretty busy. She greeted me first, then immediately said "we don't take trash bags." I was confused by this because in my other experiences with Platos Closet, I used the same method. I said "Oh, I'm using them to carry all these shoe boxes." She then turned to her right and said something to the manager (Marie or Murry), and then she said to me, we don't take trash bags. I was alarmed at this point because I had driven all this way and brought the shoes into the store and wasn't being treated as I felt I should. The manager says, we're short on bins so if you go over to Marshall's you can buy one and come back. This just didn't sound right to me because I had been through this process before and didn't need to purchase a bin to bring items into the store. I also saw other merchandise in the stores bins. They both said since COVID, they do not accept trash bags anymore. Previously, being a store manager myself, I didn't think this was the right way to handle a customer that is attempting to patron my facilities. I was very upset and rather than make a fuss, I went back to my car. I pulled up the website platoscloset.com and searched for this information. The explanation given by the employees was not in writing on your website. I called back into the store and asked for the manager. When she got on the phone, I expressed my disappointment in not being able to drop off my things. The manager went on to say the policy since COVID was not to accept trash bags. I informed her I was on the website and that information was not there. I asked her to show me where on the website, this information was given. She was unable to, so I asked for her name and she proceeded to say she would accommodate me. I felt like I was profiled by the way Marie looked at me and her unwillingness to hear what I had to say. I am a young African American, lesbian woman, and was dressed down. I truly hope that was not the case but it was truly how I felt. I was very turned off by this experience and felt like I was being treated unfairly. If you are not able to keep up with your bins being free for customers to drop off goods, there should be more purchased or have another resolution other than to ask customers to go buy something to put their items in. read more

I brought a large bag filled with brand new items. Some even had tags on them. From Urban outfitters to Zara, Altered State, American Eagle, Billabong etc.... They took NOTHING. I don't even think they looked through my bag to be honest because my items appeared untouched and most were still folded exactly the way I had folded them. Their window forms were dressed like absolute garbage. Horrible outfitting and wrinkled. The items they were selling on their racks were also garbage. So if you have nice items, go somewhere else. Low-ball offers for items brought in, and they'll pass on great and even NWT items yet the clothes already on the rack aren't great, some even stained and gross and super overpriced.
