Horrible service. Drove all the way from Columbus just for them to say they couldn't get to me, I would have to come by the next day within 24 hours of their text. After the text they still would not tell me how much they would give me. Rushed all the way to Tuscaloosa after my full time job just for them to say they only wanted 1 pair of my Uggs and converses and a purse for $20. Ridiculous. I don't really care for unisex dressing rooms at all! I went in today and tried on a few pairs of pants. The dressing rooms are locked so an employee has to unlock a door for you. No biggie. While I was in the dressing room someone was put in the room beside me. No biggie. The person next to me turned on some music (phone probably) during their dressing room experience - youthful rap. No biggie. Then the person started singing with the song. STOP RIGHT THERE. So I'm in my dressing room *pants-less* and I hear a baritone rapping not 3 feet from me. I couldn't get dressed fast enough. This gentleman did not do anything wrong or anything to purposefully make me uncomfortable. The situation, for me, was just not cool. When walking out I noticed that in a row of about 8 dressing rooms we were put side by side. There's gotta be a better way. They remodeled. It's nice. read more

This Plato's Closet is extremely unorganized. All of the items are very worn and the selection is extremely limited. I went to sell today and the girl in charge was rude and not helpful at all. I know a lot of reviews say it's disorganized and the helpers aren't friendly, but I had a great experience. I didn't find as much as I wanted to , and several items were torn yet still on the rack, which is why it doesn't get 5 stars. The ladies at the front were all super sweet and friendly, and were quick to get the dressing rooms open. They offered to hold stuff behind the counter so I didn't have to carry it. They also don't enforce the "six items at a time" dressing room rule a lot of Plato's do. Overall good place. read more

I've normally loved purchasing from this store, but I had an awful experience selling clothes to them. When I asked to see which items they were accepting, employee Majh refused to show me, and told me it was 5 items. I was hoping to see on the receipt, but I was never asked if I wanted a receipt or if I could add my rewards phone number for points. When I asked for a receipt, she refused to print it out for me. I will purchase and sell my items elsewhere from now on, as the customer service is much better at other consignment shops in the area. read more

I will start off by saying this place is a joke. I brought in 2 buckets of rarely / never worn clothing and shoes and all they wanted to purchase was 3 pair of jeans for $8.40. YES, $8.40 for 3 pair of never worn jeans in mint condition. PATHETIC!!! They marked my intake sheets letting me know why they didn't take anything else and it stated the condition of the clothes (which again, most had never been worn and quite a few still had the tags attached) and some other BS. The shoes were in excellent condition, brand name and trendy. The very first day we went in to ask about the process, the girl behind the counter was rude and didn't bother at all to show her dislike of "fat" people. With her attitude, I should have never wasted my time, but I wanted to give it a chance despite the way she treated us. The young lady that helped us when we dropped our stuff off was super sweet and helpful. Despite that, this place needs an overhaul. They need to be trained in customer service, first and foremost. Whomever goes through the clothes needs to be open minded and pay attention to the people around them and the different styles people wear. Quit catering to the same stereotype. I dropped off some beautiful cardigans and I have seen numerous college girls wearing this same style as well as older women such as myself. Anyway, besides all of that, one main reason I say it's all BS is because the clothes in my buckets had not changed from the way I packed them. If anyone had taken each article of clothing out and inspected them, there's no way they would have folded them and placed them back in the buckets the same as I did. I wouldn't recommend using this place at all and I hate it for these young college kids that are getting screwed royally for a few dollars. read more

Waited in town for 3 hours after being told the things we dropped off was 3rd in line. Workers were standing around chatting and had no interest in helping get things checked out even after we told them we lived 70 miles away and would be inconvenienced to have to come back. 4 large bags of very nice clothes and name brands and after driving back today to collect they only purchased 10 items at $40. The store is overstocked with out of date clothing and worn out shoes which stink by the way. Needs better management to help customers and bring in new stuff staff is not nice. Teen girls and not friendly. Sorry but truth. Will not wast time there until there are changes. read more

Lazy and rude is all I can say. I was trying to sell clothes and brought in 4 bags of clothes. They said it would take a couple of hours. I dropped it off at 1 and they did not call me back until 5. Once i got there they said they could only use a pair of shoes. So I left with 4 bags. As I was examining my bags I noticed they only went through one bag. I understand they were busy but they should have said we have to many drop offs today could you please come back tomorrow. Honestly if i could I would give them zero stars. I always love to come in here and shop around. Since their remodeling, it's much more spacious and the dressing rooms are much better. I do agree that this is not the best place if looking to sell large amounts of clothes... they tend to only choose a few items even if the whole bag is basically brand new AND in style. I don't do this much but I was just in here Tuesday with my daughter looking for dresses. I was looking at the jewelry and i overheard two hispanic women saying the most unprofessional and rude things about other employees. When i was checking out I asked the young lady if they were managers she said yes. I was shocked one because they didn't seem to be doing much work two because of the way they were talking about other employees. As a busses owner I would never allow my staff to act or talk that way in my store, especially as higher ups. The young lady who checked me out was fantastic however! I washed her for some help with the dress and she found one my daughter absolutely loved! She even went as far to help find jewelry and shoes to go with the dress! This place is a waste of time if it don't look like something a wore will wear they don't want to take it.They will steal from you as well. You have to watch the employees there when you bring your stuff in. I wouldn't even waste the time going to plato's closet in TUSCALOOSA AL. IT LOOKS NASTY in the store they sell dirty shoes and nasty looking clothes. If they do buy anything from you they give you like a $1.50 TO $2.00 I can have a yard sell and make more than that. The girls that work there are rude and they look at you like your stupid and wasting there time like they are better than you. You have some really snotty employees who need to learn customer service. I think you should fire them all and start over with some girls who know how to work customer service. I have always taken my clothes to Platos closet and have never had any trouble. I took a bag of clothes to sell and came to pick up my money/leftover clothing and was told that all remaining merchandise had been donated. I was unaware that there was a 3 day threshold on merchandise before donating. While I do 100% understand the reasoning/time limit for donating clothes, this is a rule that should be communicated to the customer multiple times, not just printed on a piece of paper. Let's get real... no one reads the small print on the front of a green sheet while 10 other people and 50 garbage bags are waiting behind them. I should have been told this VERBALLY when dropping off my merchandise as well as when I was CALLED to pick up my merchandise... neither of those happened. When I picked my clothes up I was told by an employee that it was the "persons fault for not reading" and no apology was given whatsoever. I was not arguing or trying to be rude, just wanted them to know that this is something that should be reiterated to the customer. I work in retail as well so customer service is a big pet peeve. Both employees I dealt with either need to find a new attitude or find a new job! read more

Brought in three extra large boxes full of designer (some never worn) clothes. It took them two days to even reply to me. When I went to pick up my clothes they had only taken 18 items. When I looked inside my box of my returned clothes the clothes had been haphazardly thrown back in without folding, ruining some delicate shirts. Some other clothing that was previously in perfect condition had been damaged/ripped. I can not even attempt to sell these items at another store now and probably lost money attempting to sell here. The employees were rude throughout this whole process as well. This is the only Plato's location I've ever had an issue with. Overall a bad experience. read more

I took in a basket of clothing from an hour away. They said it would be a minimum of 24 hours to sort through due to a peak season. No problem. I figured I would come back at the end of the weekend (two days later). They called me three days later saying they just sorted through the clothing, and since you have three days from your DROP date, (not the date they actually sorted through your clothes) I had to pick my clothes up by the end of the day. So I had to leave work just to keep them from donating by things. If this is the general policy, that's extremely inconvenient for people coming in from out of town that you chose over 40 items from. Just sitting on hold to hear your clothes have been processed so you have to come immediately is not a great system. If you're going to do three days, it needs to be three days after they've been processed. read more
