At the end of 2019, we reached out to Hope & Home to share our mounting concerns with management and stepped down from leadership. A month later, we closed our foster care license upon learning that several former female employees had allegations of misconduct and/or sexual harassment against the Executive Director, Ross Wright. Concerns we shared with H&H: - High staff turnover - Home Supervisors are ill-equipped to support difficult behaviors/cases - The agency's focus is on growth over quality. My husband and I mentored a family who left H&H. Ross Wright explained in a staff meeting the parents were "rigid" and "unteachable." I saw them as an overwhelmed new foster family with 3-4 foster placements (one of whom was a rebellious teen) in addition to their 2 young boys. Mr. Wright did not want to discuss what could have been done to better support this family. - Hope & Home Vs. "Other" culture (i.e. DHS, the State, other Child Placement Agencies) - Questionable business practices (H&H being removed from Glassdoor, Better Business Bureau, no financial transparency). I have since spoken with more than 10 former Hope & Home employees and 2 foster parents who directly experienced misconduct and/or sexual harassment. Details on this can be found by reading an article written by The Gazette and searching Hope and Home We See You. Hope & Home has the fanciest building and several structured supports for families. I've found that other Child Placement Agencies put their efforts towards more flexible strengths: monetary reimbursement to foster families for specific needs, experienced staff better equipped to assist with difficult behaviors and complicated cases, knowledge and willingness to reach outside the agency for creative solutions to problems, and a stronger relationship between staff and foster families. No agency is perfect: look for the agency that feels like the best fit for you and know that you can always switch (even if you have foster children in your home). Foster care, the various systems, and people are broken, messy, and complicated. This agency has many caring staff and great foster families. I sincerely hope for the resignation of Executive Director (Ross Wright) and Deputy Director (Jacque Thurman-Wright) for significant, positive change.

There is no stress in my family that comes from this child care facility, whereas there was daily stress when my family was part of other facilities that were part of the Department of Defense. If you want your family to be part of a horrible organization then please go to the facilities on Ft Carson. If you want your family to feel welcomed and cared for then do not hesitate to be a part of Lionheart. We have had nothing but outstanding leadership and direction from the staff there. I…read morevolunteered via AARP placement after moving from Los Angeles to Colorado Springs & I really enjoyed answering phones, which used some of my skills as a counselor & therapist, now retired. (UC Santa Cruz CA & Dual Master's Program in clinical & transpersonal psychology, JFK University, Orinda CA). Somehow gossip got started about how I went into someone's office & threatened them & that I also asked to shadow another worker in the same dept. Absolutely untrue & so unprofessional! To be frank, I think they were threatened just because I have a lot of work experience & accolades for it, some of which was on my resume, which HR passed around for everyone to read, a total violation of the law. I was completely unaware of the level of contempt they had for me, with absolutely no justification whatsoever. I was then fired for reporting senior abuse of a 70 year old woman to Adult Protective Services (with my immediate supervisor's request and approval that I call in the report), when suddenly the next level supervisor appeared at my desk & insisted that all I'd needed to do was call the police, which was her idea of what to do. I said, "I beg to differ because . . ." She cut me off and had me fired. The staff at Silver Key is highly dysfunctional to put it politely. The shock and negative impact of that experience at Silver Key in the context of my many years of committed employment as a respected & effective teacher, counselor & therapist has been long-lasting and especially hard on me as an older senior (I am now 83) who trusted I was still doing good work in the world as an elder. Find other agencies where you can volunteer because the Silver Key staff is untrustworthy, unpredictable, small-minded, & unprofessional. They lie & gossip like high schoolers. (I'm also a lifetime credentialed State of California secondary teacher in reading, writing & literature, as well as French & Spanish. I've seen more integrity & maturity in 16-year-olds who were my students & in those who were my counseling clients than in the staff at Silver Key). It was an experience of utter betrayal by an agency that supposedly cares about and respects seniors - not lie about you behind your back when you're volunteering with the goal of making a difference in a small way, but instead fire you because though you did the right thing, their fragile ego was bigger than any commitment to doing the right thing. You would think that the Silver Key staff would extend the respect & care they claim to hold for all seniors to the volunteer seniors working there. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to volunteer to work with the Silver Key staff. Nepotistic, gossipy, dishonest, unprofessional, mean-spirited, totally dysfunctional, untrained staff. Find somewhere else to volunteer. ZERO STARS.

Several staff members had come forward outing issues with pay and other administrative problems. As for my own experience, first I'd like to say that Donna, my former Occupational Therapist, is a fantastic therapist and a great human being. She is accepting and creative, and will try her best to understand and work through your own or your child's struggles to the best her abilities. Even when she doesn't know what to say/do, she will tell you as much and work with you to solve the problem your way. Donna herself gets 5 stars. As for the rest of this place, it's severely lacking, especially if you yourself are disabled and seeking OT. The spaces for special needs children and adults are not separated; this means children screaming while you wait, staring while you exercise, and distracting you during important and personal discussions. If you're kid isnt good with strangers, dont send them here. This ofc is not the fault of the children, but rather the facility itself for not even attempting to create seperate spaces. I, as a 23-24yo, attended OT for 8 months sitting in a plastic Kindergarten chair in a classroom full of screaming children and random instructors I don't know. No privacy or quiet, and new strangers all the time. I (and most other Autistic people, including these kids) struggle greatly with loud noises and new people, so understandably, these accommodations were completely insufficient, and actively made my therapy much harder for everyone, not just me. Nobody seemed to have this very basic, entry level Autism knowledge. After several complaints I was sometimes given access to the speech therapy room, but only because Donna (shoutout once again) went out of her way to schedule with the speech therapist. It was abundantly clear they had never treated an autistic person who could speak for themselves about the noise and lack of privacy, and didn't ever expect one to show up. Even if you have a verbal child, don't expect them to learn self advocacy here, because the staff hasn't even considered that as a possibility and will be unprepared to help. If it took me, a grown adult with strong, fluent speech, 8 months just to be moved 1 door down, your kid won't receive the help they need. As far as I can tell, PT uses these same facilities too; the gym sits on a balcony in an echo-y room, over a classroom where particularly disruptive kids are taken, plus the door is always open and sits within earshot of the lobby. so even if you just need PT, expect to hear screaming and crying while you exercise and to share the equiptment with kids. This is NOT an inclusive or remotely LGBT+ friendly space. Donna was a sweetheart when I came out as Transgender, but revealed that there Is absolutely zero DEI training for employees at this facility. This would also explain why I was constantly mean-mugged and misgendered by staff, and why there is no "prefered name" or "pronouns" options on any of their paperwork. If your kid is one of many neurodivergent LGBT+ people, this place will steifel them. I had to explain to my therapist what words like "transgender" & "bisexual" meant, because nobody had bothered to teach her (which isn't her fault, its the facility's fault for not training their people). I could only imagine the response I'd have received from another staff member or if I was under 18. Just like the ABA they will teach your kids, they only acknowledge one way of being. Generally, Rehab For All is a facility for conservative parents who don't know anything to about Autism, to dump their Autistic children for a few hours so they can learn harmful and throughly debunked ABA therapy, and cause stress for other disabled people who really need peace and quiet. Having sat in the very same "classroom" as these kids for months, I can confidently say this is just a daycare that will take autistic children, but puts them in timeout for acting autistic. Be prepared for your child to be sharing gym equipment and the classroom with adult strangers who have been given nowhere else to go. If you or your child are averse to loud noises, this facility will become an active detriment, as there is nowhere truly quiet here. Even the aforementioned speech therapy room shares a wall with the large classroom, so even once I was moved there it was a toss up if it was actually quiet. For those who want their disabled child, family members, or oneself to flourish in therapy, this unfortunately isn't the place for a variety of reasons.

This has been my favorite place so far. My son has been so taken care of. We have not been provided a place with so much stability until now for him. It makes my heart happy to see staff that cares about what they do and who puts their hearts into their patients.
