We took a tour on an overcast Spring day and luckily the rain held out. This is a wonderful…read morelocation for family and I can see spending a full day here with the kids. There is so much to see, do, and learn. Our tour felt pretty quick, but still, there is a lot of landscape to cover and a lot of information to pass on so in reality we were out there for quite a while and it was lunch time by the time we reached the last exhibit. The layout starts way back in time and explores people living by the ocean, how they lived, what they ate and so on. You move on to more complex lodgings and learn how the people have changed, there are henges, monk quarters, barns, smiths, and so on through the ages up to the arrival of Vikings. It gives a very details account of Ireland's development with wonderful villages set up through out the grounds. You can even stay in one of the buildings - the listing is on airbnb I believe. (Yes, there is a public shower and bathroom on site) We elected to not walk up to the tower as the rain was beginning and we were hungry. We stopped in to their restaurant and purchased a very nice meal, after which we wandered the gift shop before heading to our next stop. This is a very interesting stop on our trip. We learned so much about Ireland's history and really appreciate how detailed each section is from building construction to utensils used to information about how people lived during each period of time. We stayed at Faithlegg House and Golf Club when visiting the Waterford area. When driving into the…read moregrounds, the views are breathtaking! The golf course is expansive and there is the hotel house, pro shop, clubhouse, cocktail lounge, and formal restaurant on site. When checking into our rooms, we quickly realized that we were not in the correct rooms per our reservation. We had a golf course view rather than garden view and bed sizes were incorrect. Management was not able to do anything till the following day but accommodated our group for the error with a comped 3 course dinner and drinks in the formal dining room. The food between dinner and breakfast was some of the best we've tried on the trip thus far for flavor. Drinks were also made extremely well and the hotel offers free live music in the lounge every other day from 9:30 - 11:30pm. The rooms were very spacious and beautifully historical. The bathrooms appeared to be updated in opposition to the rooms. Note that all rooms do not have air conditioning but they supply each room with a fan and certain windows can open. Golfing didn't start till around 8am so noise wasn't an issue in the mornings. The drive into town was about 20-25 minutes and ubers/taxi rides were about 20-26 euros to get there. Overall, we had a tough start to our experience but they did take care of us, the grounds were beautiful, and it was wonderful staying somewhere that was historical.

There was a signature drink in the lobby upon arrival to refresh you after a long day exploring. Check-in was a breeze; they handed you an old-style key for your room. The rooms were nice with an added raised area to be able to put your luggage. The restaurant was very accommodating of a gluten allergy, and they would walk me through what was available and change some of the items on the menu to fit my dietary needs. It was hard to leave here after the 2 nights.

Even if you don't play golf, you'll want to travel up to the top of the cliff to see these sweeping views. Very comfortable clubhouse, with a lovely little terrace overlooking the 18th hole. You'll find pub-ish food rather than haute cuisine or regular restaurant fare. The staff are great: really helpful and welcoming. The course itself is maturing, and will one day be a great course to play. Right now, it's a pleasant rather than challenging day out.
