I was understandably upset, but I thought this would be a relatively simple issue for a professional dry cleaner to address. I brought my dress to Village Cleaners at The Hills in Bedminster on Thursday. They told me it would not be ready until Saturday morning--the actual day of the wedding. That made me nervous, but I trusted that my dress was in professional hands. Unfortunately, when I picked it up Saturday morning, I was devastated. Not only did the dress come back with additional marks/stains, but the beautiful fabric floral detailing on the shoulder had been severely damaged. The flowers that had been completely intact when I dropped off the dress were unraveled and distorted, with strips of material hanging down like streamers. I have included a before photo showing me wearing the dress prior to bringing it to Village Cleaners, along with photos of the condition in which it was returned to me. The difference speaks for itself. What makes this particularly upsetting is that this was not an ordinary occasion--it was my son's wedding. Instead of spending Saturday morning getting ready and enjoying such an important day with my family, I was dealing with a dress that had been damaged just hours before the ceremony. If the decorative flowers or fabric could not safely withstand their cleaning process, I absolutely should have been told that before they proceeded. I would never have authorized a cleaning method that risked destroying the detailing of the dress. I brought them a dress with some water stains and trusted them to make it better. They returned it to me in significantly worse condition on one of the most important days of my life. I would not trust Village Cleaners with a delicate, expensive, or special-occasion garment based on my experience.
