I had fillings done in September, and during the procedure some of the numbing solution dripped onto my tongue. It's now February and I still have a numb spot. The dentist was extremely rough--my jaw hurt for months afterward, and I had daily migraines from the pain. Their scheduling system is also frustrating. They refuse to adjust their reminder calls, which come at 7 a.m. on weekends and even before the office opens. If you don't confirm--because no one is there to answer--they cancel your appointment. One of the teeth they filled had never bothered me before, and now it hurts every time I bite down. The front desk staff is consistently rude and will ignore you while you wait to check in. I was told I had a balance on my account due to my insurance company paying more than they'd expected. But when I decided to change dentists (already suspicious of Plaza Dental's unethical business practices) and requested to receive that balance, I was told that it no longer existed after they audited their books. I had an new patient appointment at Plaza dental at 9:00 am. They want you there before or on time. I was there at 8:50 and completed my new patient questions by 9:00. The assistant brought me back to a room at 9:14 and had me to sit in the dental chair and took 4 x-rays. She had done everything and was ready for the dentist to see me by 9:20. Approximately 15 minutes later she came back and told me the dentist was looking at my x-rays and would be here in a few minutes. The dental chair was not comfortable at all and my back and hips were starting to bother me. I waited and waited, there was no activity happening at all in the area. It was now 9:55 and my back and hips were really hurting! I decided that the staff must be having a meeting or something and I went to the front desk and told the receptionist I was leaving!! I want to start by saying Dr Lisenby is an excellent dentist. I hope he considers opening his own practice as I would love to see him again. I have had nothing but issues with billing at Plaza Dental. Their front desk staff is always friendly but it's always someone new that I don't recognize. Plaza Dental Group owes me over $350 after my insurance sent them a check that should have been mailed to me. I have provided them with all the EOB's they requested along with the check information but after 30 days the audit of my account is still not complete. Disappointing to say the least. I am having much better luck with ProDental if you find yourself if need of recommendation for an alternative. 8-21-20 I never received my refund or any "proof" or communication of an audit of my account they claimed to be doing. 10/10 do NOT recommend. read more

Out of state college student here. Made an emergency appointment with PDG to get some care advice for my wisdom teeth, which seem to be growing in wrong and are extremely painful. I will be in my home state for less than two weeks this summer, and would like to know sooner rather than later if I need to get them extracted, and what to do about the pain in the meantime. Was helped promptly and with lots of sympathy over the phone when making the appointment, and told that the appointment would cost $92 out of pocket (I do not have insurance in MO). Arrived at my appointment today, and was immediately told that (with the necessary X ray--which I was not told about-- as well as the diagnosis) my out of pocket charge would be over $300. The bill could not be sent to my parents, and I currently do not have the funding for that type of charge, nor can I retrieve it from my savings. Without the out of pocket charge, I could not be treated. Found myself very alone, in pain, and feeling misled. read more

Another unhappy experience at Plaza Dental Center: not only were they late for my cleaning, but they insisted on charging overpriced x-rays and an exam fee in order to do a simple cleaning. Dr. Godil couldn't do a filling right after NUMEROUS attempts and Plaza still expects me to pay for it! I hadn't experienced any discomfort in my mouth prior to having work done by plaza because they told me I had cavities that needed filled. I agreed to have the work done and couldn't chew or floss on the teeth that had been operated on for MONTHS after. Numerous visits for adjustments later and it still hadn't gotten any better; until they convinced me that perhaps the problem was the tooth next to it and to let them work on that one!!! Wouldn't you know that one hurt! One filling even fell out in the middle of my day while I taught a lesson (I am a recent graduate and just started teaching high school social studies; to show that I am not in a position to make unnecessary dentist appointments I have no time or money for!). After getting them to fill back in the hole in my tooth I never went back! Found a new dentist in Columbia who took a look and fixed each filling on his first try; clearly it wasn't that complicated! You won't see many reviews like this one for plaza though because they pay to have them removed (as I'd been told by a former employee WHO QUIT BECAUSE OF HOW OFTEN THEY EXPERIENCED SIMILAR CASES TO MINE). I have had nothing but issues with appointments here. 3 times in one year my appointment has had to be rescheduled because of a "booking error". This most recent time I was told they had to cancel my appointment and the next available appointment wasn't for another 2 months. The rare times they didn't change my appointment on my I had an average wait of 45 minutes. One time in particular, I waited 30 minutes in the lobby and when I got back to my room I waited another 20 minutes for someone to come in just to be told they put me in the wrong room. When I got in the "correct" room, I was told they once again put me in the wrong room. For a simple cleaning, I ended up being there for 2 hours. Would not recommend going. read more

Don't waste you time!!! They don't even deserve 1 star. We were initially scheduled in September and received a text showing we were scheduled and then received a call a few days before saying that they have to cancel the appt because they are moving to a new office. Which I get no big deal. So I rescheduled for the same time in October. We never received a text reminder or paperwork for that appt. I called several times to confirm and always got a voicemail and no one ever returned my calls. I called again the day of our appt to confirm and got the voicemail again. My wife takes our son there for the appt and they said that oh it was for 11 o'clock. Which I would have never made one for that early. This was all for an initial appt and I can't imagine what it would be like for braces with this company. Avoid this company. We initially went because We have mutual friends with Dr Francis and he may be very good but unfortunately we will never know. Very poorly ran company!! read more

Dr. Lisenby said he would use inferior products just moments before he was to put me to sleep to extract a single tooth in order to extort a higher fee from me and Metlife ! I carry two dental insurance coverages, yet I paid several hundred dollars on one visit out of my pocket and was to be billed over a thousand more a few days after! I've had four different treatment plans for the same tooth! I had 4 different dental offices in Columbia Missouri say that I have phenomenal insurance coverage paying 100% for almost all procedures, and that's with just one of my insurance plans! Yet those Surgeons were out of my network, and that brought me to Dr Lisenby and Plaza Dental. Biggest shyster in the business!!! I waited two months to have this one fractured tooth taken care of after two consultations with the two doctors in the same Plaza Dental office, I hand-delivered a state-of-the-art CT scan from another out of network surgeon, x-rays from another out of network physician. I waited through Dr Lisenby's vacation and birthday only to be extorted and treated with inferior products, service and care, yet billed an exorbitant out of money! I had to text his personal cell to be able to get an appointment to take my stitches out a week after they were supposed to be taken out. Now 7 weeks after my surgery I can't get an appointment to have the membrane removed from my mouth. They refuse to treat me because I made a complaint and called them out for what they are. I originally went in to have a crown reattached. They glued it on and told me I needed another crown on the other side. I was quoted a price and when I showed to get my new crown, the price was increased over $200. I was in need so I paid. A couple months later I got a huge infection under my new crown. I called and requested to see anyone. They could/would not fit me in and suggested I go to a hospital. I ended up going to another dentist 2 hours later. It required 4 visits and an oral surgeon to clean it all up. The surgeon said the crown was sitting high when I told him I couldn't bite on my opposite side. My only solution to correct the bite was to have a completely new crown put on. I kept it like it was because I had already paid $1500. One month later the other crown they had worked on cracked. Another $1000 out of my pocket. And to top it off, my wife and I received an additional bill for several hundred dollars for work we were told had been paid for. All of the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The office is always clean and organized as well. The first appointment was almost two hours long multiple X-rays and pictures were taken. They noted I have a "very good insurance", and proceeded to create a lengthy treatment plan, I'm suspecting it had to do more with my insurance allowance rather than the condition of my teeth. They even suggested a deep cleaning, but I was able to talk them down to a partial deep cleaning, only to be done on the supposed affected area. Dr. Graham was a bit cocky, but I figured it's probably a good thing. My reasoning- cocky dentist, exudes confidence so she must be great dentist. Wrong! There was this feeling I had, but I chose to ignore it. Wrong again! The first appointment went well, two cavities were taken care of, all was ok. The second appointment was to replace two old fillings. The dental assistant was stiff and not really caring. She gave me a pair of glasses to protect my eyes from spraying. They had someone else's little blotches of spit dried on them. She offered to clean them "if I really wanted to". Yes, please! I was given nitrogen, topical, then local anesthetic and I didn't have a care in the world. Dr. Graham came and poked around, but I couldn't feel a thing, so she began working. I was really comfortable, couldn't feel a thing, until the dental assistant used the suction. She basically jammed that suction tool all over my mouth, hurting my gums like I couldn't believe was possible. It was a mystery to me how is it that I can't feel Dr. Graham literally drilling holes in my teeth, but I could feel being poked with the suction. I told them so several times, and Dr. Graham dismissed my pain and discomfort. Then it got even worse, as I had to stop them again. The assistant was poking my gums with that suction the same way people use ice chisel. I couldn't take it any more and I told her she needs to stop, it really hurts and it's not ok. And then it went from bad to worse. Instead of taking my concerns into consideration, Dr. Graham, still wrists deep in my mouth, informed me she can no longer see me and I better find another dentist. Wait! What?!?!?! Ok! I'm sitting there, my mouth numb, she's still working on my teeth and she's telling me I don't matter. Great! She kept trying to twist my words and claim I don't respect her assistant. I kept telling her I respect them both, but I don't think her assistant is good with the suction, and she kept saying it's not true. Sure! But the assistant is not stabbing Dr. Graham's gums, she's stabbing mine. At this point half the office staff flocks behind my back, they're all making faces, exchanging looks and they all take a turn to tell me "They stand behind the assistant 100%". Yeah! I keep telling them it's not normal to not feel drilling, but feel the way she's jamming that suction in my mouth. They all try to convince me I'm somehow wrong. At this point I feel like I'm surrounded by a pack of wolves. I've never felt so disrespected and humiliated in my life. And to make matters worse, Dr. Graham still has to finish my teeth. I start sobbing uncontrollably, because of what I just described, and she just sits there, and she keeps telling me she "might see me if it's an emergency, but she will no longer be my dentist". Like I would let her keep being my dentist. Insane! She finishes and disappears, there's a different assistant sitting there, complimenting my shoes, while I'm hyperventilating. They all just walk by, trying to tell me they "can't change the past", and asking me what I want them to do. I was so upset, I probably cried for and hour, unable to even get up from the chair. I've never been so upset in my life. Then comes Dr. Lisenby. He too tries to convince me the assistant is just wonderful and she wasn't trying to hurt me on purpose. I tell him I never said she was, and I tell him I don't question her integrity, just her skills with the suction. He keeps claiming she's a very good assistant who has improved very much in the time she's been a dental assistant, less than a year! BINGO! Dr. Lisenby was the only person who I can reason with, out of his entire staff, and even he tried to minimize the severity of the situation. It should have never escalated to the point of no return. Had Dr. Graham listened when I told her this assistant was hurting me, I would have maybe considered staying with the practice, just not with her. After the way they treated me, there is not a chance I'll step foot in their office again. My appointment started at 3:30 and I walked out the door at 5:45. It is no almost 2 am and my gums still feel sore from all the butchering. I have never had such an experience ever before. I don't even know how I would be able to go to the dentist again. read more

I have been going to Plaza Dental for 5 plus years for my dental needs as well as my two daughter's orthodontist needs. I was always very pleased with Dr. Lisenby's expertise and politeness. It's a shame how my recent experience was handled by his office manager/staff. My oldest daughter needed her wisdom teeth pulled and we had been given a treatment plan to show my out of pocket expenses. We arrived at her pre-op appointment on Monday to go over details, filled prescriptions for antibiotics/pain meds for post surgery. Also, given the same treatment plan showing my out of pocket expenses. With that cost, I applied for Care Credit for that amount. We arrive Friday morning for her appointment and they ask for $1200 out of pocket when my treatment plan read $580. I obviously said this couldn't be correct because 4 days ago you said it was $580. Apparently, after I had to call Delta Dental myself to research the issue (their staff was no help) they had based the treatment plan on my 2016 insurance. My plan had changed from Premier to PPO from 2016 to 2017. I'll get to the point, I can understand that coverage changes when you change plans. What I cannot understand is why you didn't check my coverage prior to our pre-op visit to give me an accurate view of what my out of pocket cost was. My final response was "I cannot give you an additional $600 today can we work out a payment plan?" They would not allow that. So, after both my daughter and I taking off work, getting prescriptions filled, etc. they would not do the extraction. Needless to say, they lost three patient's that day. Two of which had braces put on there as well and have been customers for years. I would suggest staying away as their concern is high patient volume. They literally had no care that they lost three patient's that day. read more

After a terrible experience elsewhere in Columbia, I found Plaza Dental Group to be the place for me! Great, friendly people, quick check in and my appointment started on time--it's important to me that my providers value MY time as much as their own! Debbie was terrific and very accommodating during x-rays, and Dr. Graham was very professional and thorough, explaining everything in detail. The only difficulty was that there was no hygienist available for several months, so no cleaning, which is a problem-two separate appointments and you can't get the second one. They definitely need to hire quickly in that area! I'll be back, and will be recommending Plaza Dental Group to my family and friends. read more

My husband was in a lot of pain from some bad teeth. He called the emergency number on Friday evening (He is an established patient). Dr. Lisenby called in medicine to get through the weekend. Then first thing Monday they got him in. They were so good with him. They made sure he was numb before they pulled out 4 teeth. They were amazing. Dr. Lisenby's assistant, Kayla was also amazing. Very poor customer service. They cancelled and rescheduled my appointment twice - pushing me 5 months past my 6-month check up. The second cancellation was 2 days before my appointment, which they scheduled for a Monday. Apparently, the dentist does not come in on Mondays, and I was due for an exam. They made a scheduling error. Mistakes happen, but they did not try to make it right. They just said they could reschedule me for the next available appointment - which was another 2 months away (after I had already waited 3 extra months for this Monday appointment). In hindsight, I should have rescheduled with a new dentist months ago. read more

After my dentist left mid-treatment plan, about $2000 dollars in, I was told that I would have to schedule an extra exam with a new dentist in the group to continue my treatment plan. I asked if they would comp the visit, they said no. Then as I am reviewing my payments for taxes, I see they charged me the submitted amount, not the allowed amount that my insurance Explanation of Benefits says I am responsible for. I decided to take my services elsewhere and have filed a complaint with the BBB and the State of Missouri Attorney General. Office staff, especially Peggy Zvandvliet, has been impossible and unprofessional to deal with, at one point she told me she doesn't have the time to do her work properly. read more

I chose Plaza Dental Group because they had great reviews, they accepted my insurance, and used the latest technology. I will say beware of the reviews on patientconnect365.com. You receive an email following your appointment but they ask that you call them if you had a negative experience instead of writing a review. So all you will see are good reviews. I came in for my appt as a new patient. They break the new patient appt into two visits which is kind of a pain to have to go in twice. They said they don't know how long of a cleaning you will need and want to come up with a treatment plan first. Unfortunately the earliest cleaning appt available was 5 weeks later. The first visit includes digital x-rays which they do in a hallway and this is not very private. Then you do a consultation with the dentist and dental hygienist and come up with a treament plan. I saw Dr. Olvera and she seemed very competent. She actually recognized two problem areas in my mouth and came up with a proactive approach for me. I also had two fillings that had been bothering me. My old dentist didn't see anything but Dr. Olvera knew right away what the problem was. I will say that Dr. Olvera was not exactly compassionate when I said I was a little apprehensive in getting my fillings redone. My second visit was for a cleaning...finally. My appointment was rescheduled earlier in the day due to a dentist leaving. The woman on the phone sounded a bit stressed and unorganized since she told me I had seen another dentist for my last visit. My cleaning was performed by a temporary dental hygienist not a full-time employee but I thought she did a great job. I was a little surprised and disappointed that the dentist didn't come in to check the dental hygienist's work. So don't expect to see the dentist more than once or twice per year unless you are having work done. I did opt to have a fluoride varnish put on my teeth which was an additional charge and the woman at the front desk said this was discounted $20. My old dentist always did this for free so it sounded a little rediculous when the woman said they were giving me this great deal. All in all, this place goes for high patient volume that lacks the personal touch but did a great job evaluating amd cleaning my teeth which means more to me. read more

I have seen Dr. Lisenby since his practice first started. I have seen many different dentists and usually end up changing because the attitudes of the dentists that I was seeing. I have very unique teeth in which they are weak and small and no matter what I would do, I would still get LECTURED for the lack of taking care of my teeth. Add in anxiety due to my dental history, finding a match for me was almost impossible. After my first visit with Dr. Lisenby, I knew that I had found the dentist I had been looking for in regards to a dentist connecting with the patient and truly understanding their goals in their dental health as well as ensuring that I was as comfortable as possible. I now go every four months for a cleaning and my children go as well. They absolutely love and trust their whole staff. Each hygienist is amazing and so accommodating. I've also utilized the orthodontics services for both myself and my daughter and we love Dr. Francis. The staff for the whole office is so personable and helpful that words can not explain how much I appreciate them. I truly recommend going to Plaza Dental. This recommendation coming from a patient who would have panic attacks when the word dentist was mentioned hopefully will drive home how truly amazing this office is and that their atmosphere, attention to customer service and services offered far exceed any other dental offices in the area. read more

We suspected that unnecessary procedures were being recommended for our family. After visiting a different dental practice for a second opinion, we had our suspicions confirmed. We also were told by Plaza Dental that we had a $200 credit in our account as a result of a payment for which they had overcharged us. They recommended that we leave the credit instead of asking to be reimbursed, so that we could apply the funds to our future services. When we inquired a few months later about receiving a reimbursement for what we'd been overcharged, we were then told that we did not have a credit. Instead, they told us that we had an outstanding bill for $400. But they told us that since we were such good customers ( we'd left their practice months before this), that they would forgive us this debt that we supposedly owed them. We had never received a bill for this. It appeared to us a complete hoax In order for them to get out of returning our credit to us. We believe this is a dishonest business and don't recommend them at all. read more

I went to Plaza Dental for an exam to have a tooth pulled. That is scheduled to be done on Thursday. This is not the only time i have been to Plaza Dental, four years ago when i had lived in Columbia and worked for two years Plaza took my insurance through work. All my cleanings and fillings were through Plaza. I was happy with them so when I came back into town for a couple months I need to have a broken tooth pulled so it was not even a second thought, Plaza Dental. I have taken my kids here for several years. I like that the facilities are clean and kid-friendly. Over the years I have gotten aggravated by a few things though. Although my kids are young (all under 6) and are sometimes nervous, they always seem annoyed that I want to accompany my kids at the appointment. I would be ok with sending them back, except that they do not seek my permission for procedures like x-Rays and that makes me feel like I need to stand by to intervene. They want to do X-rays every 6 months even though we have never had cavities, simply because "my insurance pays for them." Last time I went they tried to insist that my toddler have X-rays, could not give a reason why (her teeth don't even touch!), and did not seem concerned about actually weighing the risks and benefits of that procedure. When I declined they gave me a condescending lecture on how harmless the radiation is. I read the ADA recommendations and this practice does not seem consistent with those recommendations. In addition, although my kids have never had a cavity and brush really well, I feel like every appointment has a negative vibe because the dentist talks about how my kids will definitely need braces in front of them, which causes more anxiety for the kids. We are looking for a new dentist. read more

Very outraged at the treatment by Kyle Lisenby and staff. I refused to have the panoramic x-rays due to the amount of radiation given off and my insurance does not cover it. The girl still took the bite wing x-rays (and my insurance is billed) even though she knew he would refuse to see me. She sent me back out to the waiting room. Then I got called back again and that is when he informed me he refused to see me. He tried very hard to FORCE me into getting the panoramic, even though I already refused. In my entire adult life (52 years), I have never been treated like this by any type of medical or dental person. I have filled complaints with both my insurance company, the Missouri Dental Association, and any other Dental agency. All I was there for was my yearly exam and cleaning!!!! I feel this is entirely for the higher amount of money he could squeeze out of my insurance and me. Called another dentist not in Colimbia, explained the circumstance of Dr. Lisenby, she has never heard of forcing a patient to have the panoramic x-ray when a bite wing is just fine. read more

At my child's visit, it seemed like money and time was more a concern for the dentist than the comfort and long term well being of my child's psyche or his long term oral health. The dentist we saw was quick to blow off the fact that my child was in need of prompt care and referred me to their in-house orthodontist and an oral surgeon for something that could have easily been remedied in that one appointment with them. I was extremely disturbed that these things took place and makes me frightened for other young patients. I hope that all parents will at least seek a second opinion as I did and find proper treatment for their child elsewhere. It's not all about convenience for the dentist and kickbacks for referrals and this place totally turned me off of their services because of those things. I found a much more kid friendly place and was able to confirm my suspicions via second opinion. I will not be returning to Plaza Dental and will certainly warn others that I know that may be considering it! Shame on them! read more
