I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent care I received at Aspen Dental, Columbia, MO. Having read some reviews, I must say I was neither upsold nor was I pressured. I was scheduled for a consult with Dr. Parrott because I needed a molar (tooth #19) extracted and I knew it would be difficult because it was in the center of a bridge, He worked off of the xrays that I had from Dr Nolph in Jefferson City as I did not want more xrays taken. He took the time to work me in that day as I had been treated for an abscess. He worked very hard to get out this decaying tooth, removing it in pieces, He even took time to pre-numb with a first shot before giving the big dose of novacain. His staff was very pleasant and considerate. I was presented with two options and went just with extraction with a plug in order to not overstep my insurance coverage. I will go back anytime to see Dr Parrott. Also, I apologize to the waiting room patients who might have been delayed by my care which was provided excellently but I am certain took longer than expected. As a 78 year old, I will remain eternally grateful for Dr. Parrott and his staff. read more

Went to Aspen Dental yesterday for a second opinion from my long-time dentist, and it was horrible to say the least. I went in for a consultation. I approached the counter and handed the lady my insurance card and told her my name. She gave me the iPad to fill out. I went to sit down, and the receptionist got on the phone with the insurance company to see my coverage. The receptionist was yelling my information loudly instead of going to a different more confidential area. Luckily, I was the only one in the office. They called me back did x-rays and then took me to the exam room. The hygienist turned on the monitor in the room to look at my x rays and, several times while I was sitting in the chair Microsoft teams came across. On the office chat they were talking about patients, with their names and date of birth in an unprofessional manner. I guess there was a patient that showed up late to her appt., the staff was being very rude and talking about the client in an area other clients could hear the conversation. They were speaking about the patient in a derogatory tone, and one of the staff members says "well if she would have come on time then she would have been able to be seen. I told her that if she was wanting to be seen it would be at least an hour wait." One of the other staff members started laughing and said, "it will be at least an hour, if not longer" and started laughing. Then she said something along the lines of "well if she would have gotten here on time, then it wouldn't have been an issue." Don't get me wrong I know people being late for appts is frustrating but, there is not a need to speak about the client like that in front of other clients. Not only that but with Columbia being so tore up with construction, it does take longer to get around in the city. As I know this is something that should have been prepared for, it could have been out of her control and should never be talked about in front of another client. The "hygienist specialist came in, (didn't know there needed to be a special person to look at your gums). Without even looking in my mouth, I was told that I had the start of bone loss (never heard that before in my life) and that I would need a "deep cleaning" to fix that. This was a second opinion appt and my dentist back home has never mentioned having a deep cleaning and I go there regularly. I then spoke to the "hygienist specialist" and told her what I was wanting, and she stated that the doctor would never agree to that, and that even if I begged he would not give me what I wanted. My husband was sitting in the chair and saw the assistant look in my mouth with gloves on her hands then she went to the computer and started typing. She took her hand and pushed down the trash in the trash can and then went back to the computer. The hygienist noticed my husband looking at her and so she removed her gloves and used germ x. I wonder how long she would have used those gloves if he would have not been watching her? Lastly, we had to meet with the accounts person to get quotes, and we were told that "due to it being close to the time that they closed that they were going to put us in the lobby and we would have to wait for the accounts person." My appt was at 2:30 and I had got there at 2:15. It was not my fault that it took 2 hours for a dentist appt and that I needed to be flexible due to them taking too long. I went in to talk with the accounts manager, and she quoted us it to be about 4k. I asked her if that included the partial as well and she stated that it did not and that the doctor had not even wrote that I was going to be getting a partial. I told her that is what I thought I was getting the quote for. She then looked up adding a partial that bumped it up to $4400.00. I work in the health care industry and have for 7 plus years, I don't know how many incidents that went against HIPAA laws was crossed but I can think of about 5 off the top of my head. All together the place was dirty the staff was completely unprofessional. The doctors would not listen to me and completely disregarding me when I was saying that I had a calcium deficiency and that my teeth continue to break. I will never step back in that doctor office. The lack of cleanliness and professionalism was unacceptable. I asked for a copy of my x-rays and close to a day later still have not received them. read more

I went for a cleaning. Less than 5 minutes with a dentist. I was told that I could not get my teeth cleaned unless I had gum work. All of this in 10 minutes. The dentist never looked in my mouth. I spent the majority of my time with a sales lady who said I needed $1300 that insurance would not cover. read more

I had a credit of $800, and inquired about getting my teeth whitened. My insurance covered the procedure. Then about 6 months later, my $800 "disappeared,". No one could explain what happened. I spoke to the receptionist about it and she said the lady in billing would call me. This happened at least 3 times, and I never got a call. A few months ago I got a bill for $674. Still, it no explanation. So I was making payments on that bill. 3 payments of $200. Every time they sent a bill, I'd make a payment. Last payment was in April. Today, I received a letter that they turned the $84 I owed, to a collection company. I will never go back there and I definitely do not recommend them. read more

My experience with Aspen dental and Dr. Parrot have been nothing but amazing. From my first experience with Trisha who explained my cost of the Implants after the insurance would pay. Never cost a penny more. Dr. Parrot has been THE BEST dentist I have had in my life, every time I had any issues with my lower implants he took care of my issues and never charged me anything more. I have been more than happy with his professional , but very friendly attitude while doing my upper and lower implants. Maya who made and fitted my implants was awesome. The ONLY reason why we went here is because my mother was in excruciating pain and this was the the only dentist in her area that took her insurance. We started off pretty well there. took out a $3,000 care credit loan (that I paid off in FULL by the way) that I was told would cover everything with her insurance. Now they are saying we owe more money! They HAVE NOT returned any of my phone calls. They keep telling me different things. They have way to many technicians working on your mouth making it feel like a run down free clinic. Mom got dentures, The dentist said he would make it so she can eat again. I can't trust them anymore. I feel horrible. I literally wanted to cry. I'm the one who suggested that she go there because I thought the one we wanted her to go to (Willet Dental) was too expensive (But Willet has GREAT SERVICE), but after I paid off the loan, they are still saying we owe more money to get the other part part of her dentures. I actual had so many returns for fitting or measuring it was absolutely ridiculous. They finished and there gold tooth they had made actually fell out the next day and I swallowed it. I mixed my appointment up with my moms, so they pushed me back for over a month, now I'm here and have been here since 7:20 am and I'm the only one left from the first group that got here first. 8:40 am I'm still sitting. I have paid a total of 2560.20 to Aspen Dental for services rendered. One payment by card of 1536.12 on 4/10/23 and another payment by check for 1024.08 on 5/3/23 (which was taken out of my banking account on 5/5/23). Based on claims filed by Aspen Dental to my insurance company, my EOB for the date of service of 4/27/23, states I should receive a refund of at least 817.96, which was listed as a provider discount by Aspen Dental. I spoke with Aspen Dentals 210 Trimble Rd, Columbia, MO, office manager on 9/5/23 to file a refund claim, giving her picture proof of all my payments clearing my account and a picture of my check to them. I have then spoken with Aspen Dental Management corporate on 9/12/23, 10/17/23, 10/27/23, behind and it is still pending. They have also claimed they are waiting for my insurance company to process the claim, even though I received all EOB's from my insurance company with settlement dates of 8/1/23 and 11/21/23. Why is this still pending when it is Aspen Dentals discount??? I called Aspen Dental Management corporate on 1/26/23 multiple times, once asking for them to email me my account ledger (total amounts due for services, my payments and total amount still due or owed). I finally found out my card payment of 1536.12 was noted on their end on my account on 4/10/23 and my check payment of 1024.08 was noted on their end on my account on 9/13/23 (after I had submitted my original refund claim). THEN they managed to note a "decrease personal check payment" of 1024.08 on 10/20/23 first claiming they refunded me, then claiming my check must have bounced. NOPE, neither has happened. This is 100% FRAUD and they are stealing from me. I want the refund I am entitled to. read more

First off, then price gouged my mother for her root canal and crowns. They told my mom her share after insurance was $1700, then billed my mother over $4000. Then, they did some random rest that he claims "came back positive for cancer ." No such highly sensitive or specific test exists . Then they referred her to an oral surgeon who they likely send all their referrals to. This company is a scam and preys on disadvantaged people. Overpriced and they didn't now what they were talking about. Last year, I had tried to book a new patient exam with a small window to take off work. I was in the waiting room for an hour before I left. I tried again this year, made an appointment which I thought included a cleaning because that's what I asked for when I booked. Nope. Just X-rays and a survey of what I would like to change about my teeth...which they then used to try to sell me over $5000 worth of treatment on the first visit. Saying it was critical that I do these treatments with them. They wanted to pull healthy teeth! When looking at the X-rays, the DENTIST misidentified my molars and pre-molars, based off which misidentification they quoted me part of that $5000. I declined and just booked a future CLEANING which I had wanted to do in the first place. Fine. Take off work, lose money, only to show up to my appointment already wanting to charge me $50 before they take me back for "flouride"?! I say no, ok, wait to be called... says this cleaning will cost $450 today. WHAT?! For a "deep clean" and they cannot do just a regular clean. So my insurance won't cover. I'm sure that anyone who goes there never has the option for just a regular clean. I paid for upper and lower dentures at the Independence Office after being told I would owe nothing (lies). Within a month, the lower denture broke in two. I took it in for repair. They repaired it and handed it back to me no check for correct fit or anything. This same lower denture then broke three times within the year that I had them. It broke on my vacation in St. Louis where I was told by the Aspen dental there that they needed to remake my denture at the office where I initially bought them. The Independence Aspen said, "I guarantee you that it doesn't need to be remade and it won't break again. The week after that visit (after my year was met) the lower denture broke in the same place again. I went to the Independence office where they remade the lower denture (didn't tell me it was a low quality denture with no warranty)..these teeth have caused me pain or the last two months and now I am being told I will have to pay for an adjustment... I am a college student and decided I should move dentists because I rarely go home. These people treated me like garbage from the moment I walked in. They told me my appointment was not confirmed "verbally" even though I had sent a text confirmation the day before. Stay away. I had gone to Aspen dental for a number of years. The dentists are great but the office personnel are horrible and whoever does the billing makes it up as they go. I went for a check up 8 months ago with 2 follow ups for fillings. After my check up and diagnosis I was told how much I needed to pay after insurance. I paid it all. When I went back in I was told I needed to pay another $80 because they had calculated the cost wrong. I paid it under protest and vowed to change dentist, which I did. Now 6 months later, I received another bill from them. I called and they said it had been calculated wrong again. I asked why the 6 months to bill me. They had no response. My son had had all of his dental work done here also and he received an additional bill the same day I did. My question is, how many more times am I going to continue getting billed and how many other people are getting the same treatment. I'm 60 years old and have been getting cleanings and checkups every 6 months for 40 plus years. My current dentist retired, so I decided to try Aspen Dental. My first visit they diagnosed me with "periodontal disease." I was skeptical but agreed to the "scaling and deep cleaning." The procedure cost $420 more than what they quoted me. They offered no explanation or reimbursement. It seemed everyone there must be paid on commission since they were constantly trying to up sell stuff. 6 months later I came back for my cleaning and I'm told it will cost $190 because my insurance doesn't cover this type of cleaning. I told them to delete my account and left. A few weeks later I went to an independent well-established dentist. I mentioned nothing about Aspen. They did a thorough examination and cleaning. Reported my gums are very healthy and no signs of "periodontal disease." Aspen Dental is a very dishonest, greedy company and should be investigated for fraud. read more

My husband and I visited Aspen Dental once in Jan 2018 for an initial exam. We were seen by the same dentist on the same evening. Afterwards, I received a bill for one of our exams (they were supposed to be covered 100%), because they had incorrectly assigned my husband's exam to an out-of-network dentist. After a long and drawn-out process that involved many calls to both the office and insurance company, Aspen agreed to waive the fee. A few months ago (yes, in 2020 -- 2 years later), we received notice that this bill was being sent to collections. I don't have the same insurance that I did two years ago, no longer live in Columbia, and didn't think to get written confirmation at the time, so I don't have any proof to dispute the bill. The staff here are highly competent, & have been transparent in every aspect of my process. From the upfront cost- based on a thorough examination, patient input/expectation - to the ongoing physical comfort level throughout each step of the process. They work very well together, which translates to a confident, positive experience for the patient. Again, do your research, understand what your insurance does/does not cover, & know what you can/cannot afford. Staff are friendly and kind but that is the only positive of Aspen Dental. I have had appointments repeatedly shuffled around and they have been clearly overbooked on two of my three visits with dentists walking around telling dental assistants that they will have to send people home because they don't have enough rooms. As I was getting my cavities filled the dentist left the room on 3 or 4 separate occasions for 20/30 min at a time to help with other patients so my fillings lasted an entire hour more than they told me they would. I continued to feel pain in my fillings and had to go back. Never sat in the waiting room for less than 20 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start. Had I not been forced to go somewhere else due to no returned phone calls and not answering the phone after calling back to back. I had to emergently have my crown recemented for the 3rd time. ( 1x temp, 2 times perm.) They knew they did poor work and had 2 dentists do the crown prep and made the tooth too short in addition to not lining up properly leaving exposed tooth with a gap in the back of tooth 19. Since 2 dentist did my crown prep there was apparently an obvious inconsistency in work for it to be so bad my new dentist suggested I get a refund. They had to know it was not lining up properly. Which is medical negligence first of all. They also flattened the teeth on either side of 19. Obviously, my new dentist wanted to get to the root of why this kept happening and showed me via xray how/why my crown was not staying. Aspen did not answer my emergent messages or continuous calls and expect you to schedule online and wait till June 3rd for an appointment while risking infection and sepsis. Cool. Then to tell me they will not refund me for the crown service after paying 6k for overall terrible experience. I broke my warranty going to a new dentist and they will repair what they did but not refund me. I do not wish to have ANYMORE work done here and highly discourage anyone else from doing so. I have contacted the Mo board of healing arts and a lawyer because I am so happy and have heard so many bad stories about this office. After wearing them one day, I woke up the next morning with a lump on the roof of my mouth. 2 more appointments and they had no clue what it was and denied their dentures caused it. They said I needed an oral surgeon, but with Co-vid none were available for 2 months. Then their surgeon wanted $136 just for a consultation (out-of-pocket). Finally, after having a normal physical, my doctor sent me to an ENT doctor and they removed it. This was 8 months later with no dentures! AVOID ASPEN DENTAL IN COLUMBIA MISSOURI. This office is so disorganized and its business operations need to be scrutinized by corporate. I made an appointment thru the call center (Rachel) on 5/18/2023. I also called the actual location to confirm my appointment with the office manager (Marc Jones). I showed up to my appointment on 5/22/2023 to be told by the female office manager "We don't have you scheduled. 2pm is our lunch break so there is no way you could have had an appointment." I showed her my email confirmation of the appointment with date and time, to which she replied "We've been having scheduling issues and glitches in our system for awhile." Don't you think those issues should be fixed? Marc called my insurance only to tell me that Aspen Dental is OUT of network. Contrary to the Aetna website stating that 3 of their dentists are IN network. I wasted one hour of time sitting in the waiting area. During that time, I observed many other unhappy patients. One patient had appointment at 2pm but wasn't seen until 2:30pm. Two other patients walked out because they had been waiting a long time and couldn't wait any longer. As I left, 7 more patients walked into the crowded waiting area. Apparently all NEW patients are considered walk in appts. This is the only dentist office I have been to in my entire life which schedules separate appointments for cleaning and checkup (typically they are done at the same visit). There is not one single good thing I can say about Aspen Dental Columbia Missouri. They don't care about wasting people's time and it shows. read more

I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my appointment time to have a tooth that is broke in half and excruciating removed. The issues were MANY. Evidently when I visited a different aspen prior and had some work and paid they put my payment on someone else's account so I "had a balance" then she wouldn't take my dental insurance card without medical insurance. My medical insurance has ZERO dental and is not connected to my dental in anyway shape or form. Then after we finally gave in she said that I'll just have to pay cash today and file a claim myself even though they are in network providers. Very frustrated at this point and in pain I say whatever we will do their job. I sit down....about 10 min later (about when my appointment shoud have started)she said "oh I need to check that your here." Then the waiting began. (Not sure why I'm showing as from Frisco.) Ridiculous from the beginning, but I was in a semi-emergency, so had no choice. Just a few things: 1. They do two-stage procedure on caps--temporary, then permanent. Most do it single shot. 2. During that temp procedure, a tech came in to tell dentist a woman had been waiting over two hours with an emergency, and she wondered if she should go elsewhere. No action was taken for the other patient. My situation was not an emergency, so I would have been patient for a time. But no. 2. When a temporary cap came off on a Sunday, they were over five hours in getting back to me. The recording said 20 minutes, and the referral operator said an hour. I kept getting called back by their answering service, asking if I'd been contacted, which of course I hadn't. 3. When a dentist from the office finally did call, he wouldn't do anything until the next day, nor did he give a serious explanation for his negligence. I told him I would be in at 8am (opening time). He talked about trying to fit me in that morning. I told him, with more intensity, that I would be in at 8am! The little fellow cowered (good), and said, "Yeah, I think that'll work." To office's credit, they did get me in fairly quickly that next morning. But the fellow was not fired, and the manager defended the situation by talking about trying to expand client base--despite not being able to give passable service to her current base. And through all this, they hated giving straight answers to anything. read more

The x rays were intense as they took 17 from different angles and I wasn't prepared for such a lengthy process. Overall, I would definitely recommend. Update: I take back my comment about not being what I expect from w chain. It certainly is. I have dental insurance and received a quote for care based on my insurance coverage. My quote was $0 for a cleaning. Which is pretty typical. I later received a bill for over $100 for said cleaning. I called to remind them of quote and my insurance to which they stated they also needed my health insurance card which I gladly faxed over. A month later I received another bill for $100+. I searched for a dental practice to establish a relationship, and made an appointment at Aspen Dental in Columbia, MO for today at 1:00 PM. I filled out my paperwork online ahead of time, TOOK TIME OFF FROM WORK, and arrived at the appointment early. The receptionist took my insurance card, I signed what needed signatures, and settled in to wait for the few minutes until my appointment time. At 1:06, I mentioned that I had taken time off from work for this appointment and had a finite amount of time to accomplish what was needed. I was told by a passing tech that there had been an emergency and that I would be seen soon. At 1:20, my name was called. The tech did my x-rays with great dispatch and was pleasant and efficient; then, she settled me into a room, worked on the computer for a few minutes, and then left, telling me that a hygienist would be in to see me before the doctor. No one spoke to me again, or even looked in. By 2:00, my allotted 1 hour was over, and I had seen no one at all. I got up and sat on the edge of the chair, trying to decide what to do--I had to go back to work on the other side of town, and had not only not established a relationship with my "new" dentist and team, but had not received an update, an offer to reschedule, or even an "I'll be with you soon." I suppose someone noticed me sitting there preparing to leave as they walked by, and the tech popped in, asking how I was doing; she was followed closely by someone I assume was a dentist... I say "assume" because he never spoke, told me his name, or even removed his mask! At this point, I was very upset and near tears. I told them that, as it was now 2:00 p.m. for my 1:00 p.m. appointment and no one had been to see me or speak to me since I was left in the room, that I did not appreciate the way I was being treated. The tech was instantly defensive, and instead of apologizing for my wait and inconvenience, she said, "The dentist is doing a procedure and the hygienist is busy." In other words, MY time was completely unimportant and THEY needed no excuse and did not have to explain themselves to me! I then told them both (although the man made not a sound and I had no idea who he was--maybe he thought I was going to attack someone??) that I had not been told that my appointment would be delayed more than an hour, nor was I given the option of rescheduling my appointment, even though I had made it clear that I was on a timetable from the beginning; furthermore, no one had spoken to me or seen me since I was placed in the room. I said that communication was important, and none had been forthcoming. Again, there was no apology from the tech: she said something to the affect that I could wait. By now, I was so upset I could barely speak without bursting into tears, so I took off the bib and said I would just leave because I couldn't be late back to work. Still no apology for how I had been treated, from either the defensive tech or the silent dentist. She said that she would walk me out, and when we got near the front, she asked if I wanted to reschedule! Needless to say, I politely declined! If this is how I was treated as a new patient, when they are supposedly trying to earn my business, I shudder to think how they would treat a returning patient! I wasted my lunch hour and my PTO on this worthless trip all the way across town to a service that I never received, and I have no problem at all telling everyone I know to AVOID Aspen Dental! read more

Not following Covid-19 guidelines. Too many people in the waiting lounge. They don't answer their phone or return messages for days. Got pushed around assuming and it listening to what I needed. But I did get the estimate of the cost for services. Broken crown. $700+. Referred to another doc to get root canal which I didn't meet. Dental work Is customer service, high anxiety, so why not train staff to do it right. Not assembly line, I have dental anxiety. So won't go back to this shop. I need a personal relationship and trust with someone who I allow to assault my mouth. Can't go back. read more

I've been going to Aspen Dental for over two years now -ONLY because my insurance did not cover for anyone else. Had to have all my teeth removed, plus I had two of my adult teeth growing in the roof of my mouth. They worked three hours pulling all my teeth and when they were done - I ASKED them if the removed the two in the roof of my mouth and was told YES! however, they did not and one got infected and needed to be removed by cutting it out. Strange thing is they charge a different amount for each tooth removed and if you finance it with them they charge interest on EACH TOOTH. They keep adding different charges until you owe them $5000 for the teeth - which do not fit! They are very grumpy if they have to keep adjusting your fit because they can not get it correct. They say satisfaction guarantee or your money back - going to have to see about this. My mouth is raw and I always have sores because of the dentures they made. I would recommend you go elsewhere and not bother with this corrupted group. Which I knew better before I wasted my money..... read more

*UPDATE* I went to another dentist, they took new xrays. The root of the tooth Parrott was supposed to pull IS STILL THERE!! WORST DENTAL VISIT EVER!!! He numbed the wrong spot! Dr. Parrott gave me the numbing shot and left for a few minutes to give it time to start working. He came back and started to pull the tooth but I could feel it all, so he gave me another shot and left the room. I was in pain, shaking, and swallowing blood, just waiting. He came back in, started to pull again, it still hurt so bad! So he gave me another shot and left the room again. I was so nervous, I actually had a panic attack! One lady came to check on me, I said I was in a lot of pain. She said ok, she typed on the computer a while, then said she would get Dr. Parrott. When he came back in, he asked me to show him where it hurts, so I did. He said oh, ok. Then he gave me a numbing shot in a different spot because the first 3 shots where in the wrong spot!! He left the room again and once again, I was sitting there swallowing blood. When he returned he started to pull again and I still had pain, but not as bad so I dealt with it just to get this whole thing over with. After a second I hear him mumble, "Well this isnt even the right tool." But he kept yanking away! At one point the tool slipped off my tooth and hit the roof of my mouth really hard and he didn't even acknowledge it. He was frustrated, impatient, rude, and completely unprofessional. Wish I would have read the reviews already here before going! I see nothing has changed there! 3.5 hours there for xrays and simple examine. No work done. Hygienist was awful! Was told they would Escript a prescription. Took 24 hours... When you call, you get a call center it the answering machine. After cancelling my next appointment that I didn't want to originally make anyway, I was told my deductible would be reimbursed. They called the day of the original appointment to confirm and I had to remind them that I had already cancelled. Needless to say, reimbursement hasn't happened. Went to see a wonderful dentist and found out the reason I had been sick since my appointment at Aspen was because they had overdosed me on antibiotics. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.. If you want someone, who I felt, that they had no idea what they were even doing. They told me that I had so much stuff wrong with my dental that I thought they were going to fix. But however, they did something else entirely. When I brought up what they said to me during my first appointment they made it sound like I was retarded.. This may be a nice little place to get young kids first dentist b/cuz the staff are wonderful. But, if you have dental needs I wouldn't want these monkeys to look at mine or anyone's teeth and take my money and still leave me f$@"ed. Nothing changed and no help was given. AVOID!! People were nice, but that's the only good thing I can say for this place. My girlfriend and I are newer to the area and looking for a new dentist. We decided to give aspen a chance and I regret it. We had some simple check ups and came back a month or so later to do some more in depth procedures, cleaning etc. I pay my part, my girlfriend pays hers, we pay what is due at the time and our insurance covers the rest.... So we thought. We get bills a month later saying we each owe a few hundred dollars!! I paid over 100 dollars last time I was there and about 40 or so for the cleaning so I know my insurance covers what we did because I obviously did my research before picking a dentist. The wait times are unrel as well. If you have want to be in by 12 make sure you make an appointment for 10AM. I WILL NEVER BE BACK, and I'm gonna make sure people know how much headache they'll get if they come here. If long wait times, expensive service and surprise bills are your idea of a good time, this is the place for you. 0 out of 5 stars!!!! read more
