La Martina... AVOID at all COST! Do not fall for their scam!

AVOID La Martina at all cost!!! They have guys come up to you for "free" shows but will add it to your tab at the very end!! Cash only! It was late at night so I have no choice but to hunt down an ATM. Best bet is to eat outdoors or avoid this place at all cost!

This is a must do when visiting Mexico. Come in a Friday Saturday or Sunday to be able to select from a variety of Mariachis!! We had an amazing time and did not need to go into any of the restaurants to hear them. You will have people come up to you to go to the restaurants for the shows, but honestly, save you money...stay out side and have some Mariachis play for you (unless you want to eat and watch a show)!! This is the second time we came here, our youngest daughter wanted to hear Mariachis so we came a bit early (they actually start around 1 an). They also have a Tequila museum which is free to get into and learn about the Mezcal. This is definitely a huge Mexican Touristic place and a bucket list to do.

    Mariachi for hire.

Most of the intersections are blocked off to traffic, and instead, the streets are handed back to the bicyclists and runners! We saw they were simultaneously holding a 5k for runners! Bicycles cram the street by the thousand! It's not a race, but a leisurely ride. Some riders come with fantastical bicycles that defy description. Many people ride ridiculous or costumed bikes, some with weird themes. The ride takes you up and down the major arterial street for Mexico City- one of the busiest boulevards in the world. It's hard to believe that the whole thing is shut down for the bicyclists, but it decreases pollution, and gets people out to exercise! If you're not participating, and just want to drive through, there are still ways to cut through the bike traffic if your driver is on the ball. My trip involved going around the roundabout at the Angel of Independence - in the opposite direction than normal on the roundabout. Hair raising! My city of San Antonio, Texas 'borrowed' the idea from Mexico City, and we have a similar event called "Ciclovia" on a quarterly basis. This is cool that it's weekly! It's FREE!!! Even if you don't have a bike, people can just walk or run. There are places to rent bikes from the kiosks along the way, and bike rental huts all along the Paseo de la Reforma.

As its name suggests, it commemorates the founding of the city of Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec empire in 1325, which later became Mexico City. A fountain with a cluster of sculptures in the center--created in 1970 by artist Carlos Marquina--depicts the legend of Nahua* settlers migrating from the (possibly mythical) city of Aztlán. Upon sighting an eagle devouring a snake while perched on a nopal (cactus), they took it as a sign to settle and create the city. This same imagery adorns the Mexican flag today. When I was there in January 2026 the fountain was filled and the sculpture is easily visible from the street and sidewalk. We went later on in the evening when most of the vendors had put their wares away. I can only imagine how bustling the Plaza is during the day with the sights and smells of Mexico City's historic culture. There was lots of activity even in the evenings, mostly families out for an evening weekend stroll. This is a spectacular spot in an amazing city. Will definitely be back to discover more of Plaza de la Fundacion on our next visit.

I didn't get to explore as much or stay as long as I wanted, but everything I did see was beautiful and really enjoyable. This area contains the Chapultepec Castle which used to be the imperial palace and presidential residence. It also houses the Museo Nacional de Antropologia which is a historical museum of the country. It also contains the Chapultepec Zoo which is a popular and free kids attraction. We first walked through one area where we saw souvenir stalls selling trinkets like magnets and monkey hats. We then saw the lake and bridge. Then we walked to the castle base. Then we walked over to the museum to enter. Throughout the area you'll see street food and street stalls, performers, and walking paths. There's also a lake where you can rent paddle boats. If nothing else there are lots of trees so you can relax in the shade. If you're coming to Mexico City this will most likely be one of the stops you visit, and depending on what you like you could spend all day here.
