The house was many other things over the years, and eventually was moved to its current location in 2006 near the fire station, with a display installed inside and informative signs. Unusually for a museum, it's open 24 hours, because you can't go inside - you can however stand on steps or wooden frames outside, and walk around the house, peeking in windows and doors, reading signs posted inside the windows about its history; there's also a panel outside with history and some photos. The display is set up with costumed dummies (she is sorting mail; he is assisting a child to repair a small scooter; there's a row of shoes waiting to be repaired). It's rather charming, and the signs aim at the kiddies ("how many pairs of shoes do you own? People at the time might own only two, as they were made by hand..."), so bring them along.

Year after year they fail to upload the annual fire alarm inspection report to Brycer Compliance Engine which provides the inspection report to the Naperville Fire Dept. Condo building inspections are done every October and there is an additional fee to send an email to Brycer with inspection report. Every year, at end of November, Condo Association gets calls from City of Naperville stating they have not received the inspection report. Condo Association has to call Total Fire & Safety to have them send it. Again every year, at end of December, just like today, Condo Association gets another call from City of Naperville, and now this year from a contract/attorney office to get the inspection reports sent in ASAP or face fines. I called Total Fire & Safety and got attitude and talked over. The Condo Association has looked into changing inspection companies, but they are all over priced which enforces the monopoly of overpriced service for these types of business.

For the past decade our building has had to make significant changes due to Life-Safety requirements mandated by the City of Chicago. This has been an extremely costly endeavor for our smaller high-rise building. During this time our condo has had three different management companies - each new one has cost us significant time and money. We've also earned a reputation for being difficult due to select board members/residents who allow their personal agenda(s) and opinions to interfere with the building's well-being as a whole. This resulted in two of the management companies quitting and leaving us in a lurch. Not good. Of the three new companies that we interviewed, TBG was the only one willing to work within our budget and undertake our building's requirements. This means working diligently with Directors, finding creative solutions regarding issues within a 100 year old building, and attending our monthly board meetings (legally they are not required to do this). It takes time for management companies to get to know their buildings. No management company is going to be a 100% perfect fit. Yes, TBG has dropped the ball on some of our smaller issues, but they've been here for the big ones and kept us from bankruptcy. To make matters worse, the property manager breached confidentiality and gave away my information and other homeowners information to the vendor we were complaining about. This resulted in the vendor filing a frivolous SLAPP defamation suit against me that was immediately dismissed. That property manager has been fired by the new board after the board discovered that a different contractor was using the home address of the property manager as their business address.
