About a two minute walk from the Rialto Market and Grand Canal and minutes from many of the main sites, this was an ideal spot for us to begin our adventures in Venezia. We stayed in the Vivaldi room which was a top floor, almost attic type room. It was cozy and perfect for our stay. It had an attached bathroom (important to know this when booking a room in Italy) and our little section of the inn was very quiet. Our ceiling window opened to let in the cool breeze and ringing of church bells. Amazing. Breakfast was downstairs in a lovely dining room. Our server (his name escapes me) was so kind and by the second morning remembered how each of us took our coffee. He also came to let us into the B&B when we managed to lock ourselves out one evening, talk about customer service. Our host, Barbara, was incredibly helpful during our visit. She recommended restaurants, offered to call in reservations, mapped out our day-to-day activities and helped us check in to our online flight reservation. One word of caution...this inn is on the third floor with no lift so if you aren't a fan of stairs or are unable to climb them, I would suggest finding different accommodations. Venice was our first stop in Italy and this B&B was really so instrumental in our stay. I look forward to the day that we return to Venezia and say ciao to La Villeggiatura.

The room was beautifully decorated. It was quite large and pleasant especially by European standards. The hotel is well located for touring yet just enough out of the main areas where tourists congregate to be a little quieter and calmer. It is also located a fairly short distance from the dock where the water taxi will drop you or pick you up (60€ from the Venice train station and 100€ from the boat dock at the airport). One of the things to consider if you are carrying very much luggage is how many of those picturesque but steep little Venetian bridges there are between your arrival point and your hotel. There are none between the water taxi point and this hotel.

We negotiated a good price and settled everything through Whats App. I paid and received an invoice and was told that it was non-refundable for any reason. We purchased air tickets (also non refundable) Less than a week before arriving, I receive a bizarre text that they have to cancel my reservations because a "family of 9" had covid in the building and they have to shut down for 14 days. Oddly enough, we have a friend staying there during the same time and the place is open and full. They obviously double booked or got a much better offer as prices are through the roof this Easter weekend and almost everything is booked up. They do not respond to phone calls or messages. We're stuck now with non refundable flights and no reasonable lodging options for our long planned vacation. Do not book here.

While the aforementioned hotel around the corner from St. Mark's square promised palatial accommodations, a palatial price (relatively speaking) accompanied the reservation. I sought a less exorbitant guest bill, and this guest house overlooking the Grand Canal delivered spectacularly. For $146, I scored two nights at an unbeatable location. Casa Favaretto's charm was unending, and the lovely experience began with a gorgeous and heart-warming smile from owner (I presume) Francesca. She helped me schlep heavy luggage up a flight of stairs to our sizable room. Understand the ballgame before booking here in the humid summer months. There is no elevator to the second floor or air conditioning. While that might be a deal breaker for you, I hope it won't. A mammoth plug-in fan next to the bed reduced the brunt of the broil. I just skipped sliding under the covers and was quite comfortable. I hauled my suitcase across 7 or so bridges in the walk from St. Mark's Square. What's one more staircase? The guest house was far from full, leaving the community bathroom rarely occupied. The shower featured some of the best water pressure during my time in Europe and plenty of space to hang or set clothes away from the commode and shower stall, a novelty among the places I stayed, especially the cruise ship. A community refrigerator allowed me to cool any water or soda bottles I had accrued. For the reasonable cost of 1-2 Euros, it also offered shelves filled with cold still and sparkling water and sodas. Did I mention the location? Good luck finding a better deal anywhere in Venice but especially on the Grand Canal. The view from my bedroom's front window was enchanting and breathtaking. While Favaretto's delightful simplicity may not include elaborate bells and whistles or round-the-clock desk service, astute travelers shouldn't need them. Consider this the perfect home base for walking and exploring Venice's crooked and less packed back streets. The one-bridge jaunt to catch an Alilaguna to Marco Polo (at 4 a.m. no less) was facile and a stress-free and bargain way to reach the airport on the mainland. In short, my stay at Casa Favaretto was wonderful, and I'll be back, especially when temperatures dip.

The hostel has been family run for 60 years and is currently run by Francesca, the sweetest woman. The hostel is impeccably clean, in the greatest location, and is so easy to get to from the airport. When we arrived we were welcomed by Francesca who showed us our room and made reservations at osteria alla Staffa (go!). She was so kind and accomodating through out the whole stay, and makes me wish there were more hostels like that in Italy! I would 100000% recommend it!

Yes, it's a 20 min boat ride to Piazza di San Marco - and you have to take the boat from there it seems. So, if you're at the northern parts of the islands in the evening, it's a 30 min walk through Venice to get there. Having said that, can you really give a 1 star review based on location? Hmm, maybe, but here there's more. What really put me off with this hotel was that when we got our rooms, the sheet was dirty. Right next to my pillow. Maybe it was makeup that had been smeared out, maybe it was something else, who knows. Either way, I don't want it next to my head when sleeping. Thus, I went out and asked them to change it. Sure, no problems, they will change it tomorrow during the cleaning. Eh, WHAT?? No understanding, no excuse, no attempt to fix it. I ended up changing the sheets myself, which is not really a problem - except that I expect not having to do that in a 100euro/night room... So, service was mixed. What about the room itself? It was good sized and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and the pillows as well. It was really cool to have the canal just outside the window. Big minus that the AC only had an on/off mode (where the on mode was several celcius too cold - yes, we asked them to have a look at it, and they did. Nothing happened with it.). Free Wifi in the lobby, no wifi at all in the room (outlet for ethernet cable available). Come on, this is 2014?! Breakfast was probably the highlight of the hotel, best one we had in Italy by far. Was especially impressed that they also had dark rye bread! Minus for nothing being labeled - the plain croissants mentioned in one review were really nice, but they were easily mistaken for the ones with a sweet filling (same box, different shelves, looked identical). Coffee, as in all other Italian hotels I've stayed in was from a machine - ironically enough with all Italians having good espresso all the time.

It cost about $200 a night USD during the weekend I'm staying at in May. Free breakfast every morning. The free wifi doesn't work in our room. You'll have to stay in the lobby to get connect. They make you return the key to the lobby everytime you leave your room in order for them to clean it. Our blow dryer wasn't working properly bit we were too busy to complain. There is only one person working at the front desk. A short walk from the hotel to the water bus. Most stores in the area are closed on the weekends. The water bus will take you to San Marco in about 10 mins and it runs very frequent. If you're taking the water bus to the airport, you have to buy a separate water bus ticket. The water bus terminal to the airport is about 15 min walk from the hotel and the ride takes about an hour.

Hence our #1 criteria for our Venitian hotel: something close to the Grand Canal and the vaporetto stop! Enter Ca' dei Dogi, which had an ideal location. A 5 minute walk from the San Zaccharia vaporetto dropoff was painless, even with luggage - all flat, no bridge crossings. We were here in Venice for 4 nights to celebrate my wife's milestone birthday, a special occasion. But our room we were shown into was a disappointment, to put it mildly. The entrance door was immediately behind the front desk, and the small room, almost completely filled by the bed, had no windows. It felt kind of claustrophobic. We could have lived with it, it is what it is. But the owner, seeing our disappointment and realizing this was a special occasion, offered us an upgrade to an apartment which would be available for the last two days. We found this a very generous offer and gladly accepted! This room, the ground-floor economy room, was acceptable for a couple days and for some, given the price level might be a good value. The Dama apartment was beautiful, decorated in 60s chic, so the last two days capped off a wonderful visit to Venice. There is commercial activity in the early morning, probably from the restaurant below, so if you are sensitive to noise earplugs might be in order. Ca' dei Dogi's location was very convenient: St. Mark's Square is only a five minute walk away - it was easy for us to stop by in the early evening to enjoy the square with diminished crowds. The owner of the hotel also runs the attached restaurant, so the free breakfast every morning was a treat. Opening with a cappuccino, then a made to order omelet, hot croissant, pastries that varied by the day and fruit. After this breakfast, we could get by with just a snack for lunch and be good until dinner. The hotel also coordinated a custom trip to Murano Island. A free water taxi zipped us over there where we had a tour of their facilities and the display room. Excellent service and location at a reasonable price makes Ca' dei Dogi a good choice for your trip to Venice.

If you choose to stay outside of Venice, you would have to take the train in daily and miss out on the magical moments in the morning and at night. The downside of staying on the island is that these buildings are super old and the infrastructure is tight and dated. So we booked this primarily for location and pricing as a secondary consideration. The room did look dated in the photos but we accepted it. Prior to our check-in I was contacted on What's App by Umberto with information about the stay and some pre-check-in tasks. I liked that they had lock boxes for our keys since we arrived after their receptionist hours, and we had to make payment the morning after check-in. Upon arrival the room was as dated as its' photos and we really felt the need to air our the room with the windows. It didn't have a screen so unfortunately a bug came in. Sigh. And the space was really tight. There was a random step inside that I tripped on and hurt myself. The bathroom was extremelyyyy tight. They had these drinks in a fridge that didn't work, but a menu sheet with prices if you touch them. No thanks. If the fridge worked I could have at least bought my own drinks and chilled them. The bed was still and the sheet was thin. The pillows were the flattest pillows ever. So support whatsoever. Not comfortable at all. We were only there for 2 nights thankfully but it was the worst sleep I had during my Europe trip. As for the positives, it was so convenient to walk around. It was 10-15 minutes to walk to the Rialto Bridge, St. Marks Square, Doge Palace... and we were able to walk and wonder around all of the islands at night. It was fun and spontaneous to immerse ourselves in the Venice culture. They provide some complimentary teas and coffee each morning between 8-10am. Since it was so close to everything, we were able to come back to reset every time we needed to use the restroom or drop off goods, or rest in between plans. The morning after our first night I came down to make the payment. It was so strange they put a hold on my credit card for the first night and needed me to pay that, then a different transaction for the remaining amount... and also a tourist VAT payment that must be paid for in cash which was 2€ per person per night during the time of our visit. On our last night there I texted their 24 hour hotline on WhatsApp for more toilet paper, because I feel safe having some over night... and they responded that they can bring it in the morning... ... ... I'd be leaving by then. Pointless. In the morning the receptionist was there when we were leaving so I gave the key back to her. She asked if we bought/drank any of the drinks, and we didn't so no additional costs. There was a lot I didn't enjoy but I feel like I would have the same issues with most other places on the island since everything was built hundreds of years ago.

But since a lot of other places seemed to be booked up the weekend we needed, and we didn't want to break the bank - we decided to just give it a try, since we were only staying one night anyway. It turns out, it wasn't too bad. The beds look old (but clean), but the room and bathroom look like they have been renovated. We had four people in one room with four single beds (one turned out to be a single sofa bed) so it was a tight fit. And I mean TIGHT. But since we were only in the room to shower and sleep anyway, this wasn't an issue for us. One thing you should know, that I don't remember being mentioned on their site - check in is actually at their sister hotel - Ca' Bragadin, about two blocks away (or whatever you call the streets in Venice). So if you have a travel buddy, I would lug everything to San Lio first, have one person head over to Ca' Bragadin to check in, and then someone at San Lio will give you the key. Other useful info: 1. There's a safe in the room 2. The WiFi sucks 3. To check out, you won't have to walk back to the other hotel. Just leave the key in the room and shut the door behind you 4. Right by the Rialto Bridge and the vaporetto 5. It can get a little loud from people on the streets. Overall, it's a good choice if you're on a budget.

What an amazing and sweet little Bed & Breakfast!…read more The couple who own it are amazing and have taken excellent care of us. The house is gorgeous and located in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood just a short bus ride from Venice (about 20 minutes). The room is eat-off-the-floor clean with a large TV, 3 small tables, a mini refrigerator, and separate closet area. The bed is large and comfortable. The bathroom is large and lovely with what appear to be hand made tiles. There is a shower but no bath tub. The owners recommended a local restaurant, took us to buy our bus tickets, helped us plan our visit to Venice, and answered every question we could think of and more! Breakfast included juice, tea, fresh bread, fresh fruit, packaged cakes and crackers. We were also served fresh espresso and coffee, a homemade apple cake, and fresh jams made by the owners from fruits grown in their backyard! If we get the chance, without a doubt, we will come here for another visit!

This is the best B&B you can find in the surroundings of Venice…read more If you come to Venice by car, this is the place to be. But also if you come by plane and intend to stay at least 2 nights, especially in the summer. The B&B has a big garden with a great pool. There are more than enough seats, chairs and sun beds for all guests. There is a bus stop within 100 m of the premises. The bus takes you in 30 minutes from the relaxing environment in Vanessa House towards the busy center of Venice. There are 3 different rooms (2, 3 or 4 persons). All rooms have a very good air conditioning and a minibar (empty, so you can put it whatever you like) or a refrigerator. The building has a very solid construction so the noise isolation is perfect. The bath rooms are nicely decorated and extremely clean. The hosts Elena and Moreno are so friendly and helpfull that you feel immediately at home. Moreno picked us up at the Mestre station and brought us to the property. Then, he drove us to a shop where we could buy the bus tickets to Venice and the multiple day passes for the bus/vaporetto in Venice. Both will do everything they can to make make your stay enjoyable. We could even join them a couple of times to their favorite restaurant as this was a bit further from the house and somewhat too far to walk over there. They offer a nice breakfast and are open for suggestions or specific needs. Other guests who had a kid with milk allergy, got without special request Soya milk the next day for the youngster. After discussing Parmiggiano cheese one morning, the cheese suddenly appeared amongst the other cheeses for breakfast the next morning. Elena bakes almost every day a fresh cake which is highy recommended. If we go back to Venice in the fiture, it will for sure be in Vanessa House again.
