Not a good attitude to new customers and potential sales. His unwillingness to negotiate lost him, not only that sale, but future potential sales as I will not be returning. Also, there were a lot of stained clothes. When I mentioned it to the other owner, she said everything had been washed. Well, washed doesn't mean all the stains came out. I can only assume those stained clothes were not negotiable either. Note to owners: It's bad business to be rude to your customers!!! Live and learn, I guess.

I know this is a sort of place, as with Barney's or a Louis Vuitton, where ladies go to shop for quaint $2000 baby strollers and other such expensive, imported baby bric-a-brac. Upscale, in other words. You know, the kind of place where one of everything is placed strategically on a shelf, lit ever-so-delightfully. The store's wares scream "Buy Me! I'm So Worth The Price!" I love this kind of shopping. Now, being Raleigh, NC, one would presuppose that the nature of the staff would be one of relative warmth and friendliness. Oh, was I in for a shock. I used to work in a very upscale women's boutique in a very high-end retail environ of Memphis, so I know the ropes.... Lots of needy clients who require all the attention the staff can provide, and a lot of mental champagne to make the experience and the expense worthwhile. So I was a bit taken aback when I walked in and the young lady behind the counter did not greet me, or even acknowledge my presence. There were several other women in the store looking around, and I assume they waltzed in to the same chilly energy I did. Who knows. For the record, I was not dressed in a burlap sack. I'm a stylish kind of gal, and a nice gal to boot. At any rate, I made my way around this adorable little baby place looking for the right gift, and found myself with my nose in a cute little baby book. Missy behind the counter still said nothing, until.... The She-Beast (I assume the owner or manager) comes from the back of the store and announces to all: "Does anyone need anything?? Can we assist you?!" Then, before I can take my nose out of the book I am looking at as a potential gift, the She-Beast looks at me and says, rather bullishly, "You There! With the book! Do you need any help??" Without batting an eye, I say, in my little way: "No... me here - with the book - I'm just fine." After about five seconds of stoic silence, laughter erupts in the store at my response, even from chilly little Missy behind the counter. The She-Beast quickly removes herself to the rear of the store, not to be seen again. I bought the book, but I'll never return. I hope others who patronize this store are greeted and treated with far more pleasure than I experienced.

At these stores we figured we would be spending about $6000 for what we wanted. At Red Barn we walked in and were asked what we were looking for and shown what they had in stock. Then the salesman politely let us know that if we had any questions to let him know and excused himself. Immediately we noticed the prices on the furniture, THEY WERE 1/2 THE PRICE THAN THE OTHER STORES!! We bought a theater style 5 piece sectional, a matching recliner, and a new master bedroom set for what we would have spent on the sectional alone at any other store. They do not offer any protection plans or extended warranties, but knowing that I saved almost $3500 I can live without that.

Like an old bookstore of rare books, Clark Art is a gallery of old fine art. And also like a…read morebookstore of old books, Clark Art's offerings might be an acquired taste. If your preference is modern art and something far away from the early precursors of impressionism, this may not be a shop you'll like. On the other hand, if you're ready to explore the triangle art scene and appreciate all art, this easily could be the start or the end of your tour. Clark fills in the gap left by other art galleries in the area. Most of the works are 18th to 19th century with a smattering of early 20th century by lesser known (to the average person, like me) artists, including some by locals. I spent time chatting with the owner on certain pictures or prints that captured my eye while he explained drawing or painting techniques, gave a brief bio of the artist, and in general, gave me an opportunity to see it in a whole new light. There's a depth of detail in old art, that while clearly dating the picture, leaves you thinking you've seen it before. The best part of this for me, was knowing I can buy these paintings for a reasonable price. Despite the Yelp name implying something different, Clark Art is more than picture frames. It's worth a stop, if only for a short time, when you're on your way to or from any of the venues on Glenwood.
