So I'm being a little selfish, yes, but here goes. I went to visit my daughters in college last month. Each of them have a new apartment that needs furnishing. They had specific things they were looking for and we had a limited amount of time. So I checked Yelp, mapped out all the thrift stores nearby, and we went looking. We ended up lastly at all things thrift. Walked in. It's arranged nicely. It smells good. If you're a thrift store shopper you know what I mean. What I'm assuming is a husband and wife team working there were very friendly and helpful. We ended up finding a chair and ottoman that we weren't looking for. But as soon as I sat in it, I realized one of my daughters needed to have it. The price was amazing, too low if you're asking me. And it wouldn't fit in my daughters car so we had a situation. We were also on a time crunch. The owner of the business offered to deliver it for us within the hour for a small fee, and we jumped on it and she was so kind and helpful. There was a couple that came in looking to sell some things on consignment. That is not what all things thrift does. They had some incredible deals and some awesome pieces. There were books, media, beautiful pieces of furniture, rugs and loads of kitchenware and cookbooks. The clothes are only for men. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Prices were competitive with nearby thrift stores. There are also clean bathrooms and water fountains! The Mama Edna Project's Mission Statement: "To bring awareness of food insecurities as they exist among our most vulnerable populations, to gift it forward by honoring Mama Edna's legacy of feeding those who are hungry and to lift folks out of these insecurities by helping them thrive in all aspects of their lives to include helping them grow their own food when possible." Watch the prices on the items you find…read more I had a very disappointing experience at the North Market Street location in Raleigh. I found a set of controllers that were clearly marked $20 and decided I wanted to buy them. The registers were down and the store was only accepting cash, so I asked an employee if she could hold the controllers while I went to withdraw more money. Instead of simply holding the item, the employee took a picture of the controllers and checked their value on her phone. She then told me that they were worth more than the marked price and that I would now have to pay $40 instead of the $20 they were marked for. I declined and left. What bothers me isn't that the store may have realized the item was worth more than $20. What bothers me is that the price apparently changed only after an employee realized they could get more money for it. As a customer, I shouldn't have to wonder whether the price on an item is actually the price I'll be charged. If an item is sitting on the floor with a $20 price tag and a customer agrees to buy it for $20, changing it to $40 because someone checked the item's online value is an extremely poor way to handle a sale. I wasn't looking for special treatment or a discount. I simply expected the store to honor the price that was displayed. I also reached out to the organization directly afterward to explain what happened and give them an opportunity to address it privately. Unfortunately, I never received a response. That's what ultimately prompted me to leave this review. I hope management looks into this, because if this is allowed to happen, customers have very little reason to trust the prices they see on the shelves.
