I'd been working with a Vanguard advisor since 2013, but they do recommend you also check with a CPA to determine how to best plan for tax efficiency year after year. I went to the appointment, was kept waiting a bit (no big deal) and once I was in the office this person (Tatyana) looked at my paperwork and started in on me with a very hard sell to get out of the market and let her manage my retirement. I said, "I just want some advice on managing my tax exposure on an annual basis". She said, "I have all of my clients out of the market" she showed me a chart of market trends since 1928 forward..."the market has risen ***% since blah blah blah. How long do you think that will go on????" You are not safe in the market, now. (Well, I've been through the 1999 crash, and fortunately was smart enough to balance my investments before the 2008 "great recession") Tatiyana's pronouncements are scare tactics to doubt what you know and your own investing knowledge and skills. She was not pleasant and was extremely arrogant. She told me to think about it, and come back in a week. I did not go back. Don't go unless you are a lamb wanting to be sheared/fleeced.

Plus, these firms are not looking at your investments as closely as you would. This course can supplement your current income or even replace it. OTA provides other resources such as tax pros, online videos, and others. This is lifetime learning. One can take the same course over and over to help strengthen one's knowledge. I can't put the blame on OTA for my lack of success as these lifelong skills I'm acquiring are difficult to learn. And to be honest I have not dedicated 100 percent of my time in the Extended learning series that is put on the OTA website. I compare this similar to the decision I made to go to college. I saw the value of my 90k education and I see the value of OTA and the knowledge they bring us concerning the financial markets. I only regret that I would have done it earlier in life when my brainpower was at full capacity. You can't put a price on skills that u can make money in all types of financial markets. Learning from educators top in their fields. If u are on the fence or thinking about becoming a student of OTA just think that these are lifelong skills u can earn a comfortable living once u master the strategies. I also have to admit that my trading platform "think or swim" is another challenge. I am waiting for the day when all our asset classes can interact directly with our trading platforms..
