So, let's see here. Our business relationship started off well. My wife had used her to do her…read moretaxes via a friend's referral. I got introduced once we were engaged. We had her do our 2017 and 2018 returns. Everything was good. Her method was different than I was used to. You sat in the waiting room watching reruns of whatever was on. You got called back, couple minutes of small talk, told you what you were getting back, you signed, and you were out the door in 5-10 minutes, max. Her experience working for the IRS made her very savvy in the tax return department, so we were thrilled when we found out we were getting about 6K back. We let the fact that she started pitching us on investing together in rental properties slide, which in hindsight, was very weird and unprofessional. That's where it all went downhill. Fast forward one year, we moved further away, had a kid, etc. Driving over an hour to do your taxes just wasn't in the cards. Coincidentally, about a month before W2s start coming in, we get a letter saying we owe the IRS just shy of 6K in uncollected taxes. We also happen e to get a postcard from Kim, asking us to prepay for our tax return to get a discount, something I've never heard of an accountant doing. Obviously, concerned, I reach out to Kim. I had also gotten bad news from my current accountant saying we owed almost 1K on 2019's return. Something obviously was wrong. Long story short, Kim HAD FORGOTTEN TO INCLUDE MY WIFE'S MAIN W2. (she started a new job about 3 months into the year) on the return. She blamed it on the computer, but can't believe she didn't think that a 40K difference in incomes from the previous year wasn't a red flag. Here's where the story gets really good! Text messages and emails prove my story. You can view on Google. She replied back to my initial inquiry saying that there was a mistake on my PA return that would get me $1400 back (LIE) and that she'llsend that amendment to us to submit as well as s federal one to get the fees and interest possibly waived (which was also never a possibility). She got really defensive when I asked her to pay the $1,200 in interest and fees. She never even offered to refund the tax return fee, unbelievable. She blamed us for not checking the amounts, even though we have no access and she doesn't go over that with you, otherwise when I heard the amount I would have known immediately. She's not accredited with the BBB and had her business partner went to jail for tax related crimes. The fact that she could forget a W2 or not double check work is unforgivable, and her behavior following it is even more unprofessional. The state amendment basically claimed that I paid the state of PA $1400 the year before, which was incorrect. She essentially didn't think I'd fact check, submit it, and forget about it for months while it gets vehemently denied and she drifts off into the abyss. Pretty much the same thing applies for the federal amendment. Basically there's two things that happened here, which no matter whatever one it is, you should never trust her with your money: 1) she's so incompetent that she made two massive mistakes on one return, or 2) she covered up a mistake with multiple lies on top of lies. When I called her out on all this she threatened me with a harassment case and told me her lawyer would contact me, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. Moral of the Story: TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! TurboTax, H&R Block, your 6 year old, anyone is better than her. I will be voicing my opinion EVERYWHERE and I hope she understands that your reputation is all you have. I will make sure this gets to my family in Jersey and gets spread as widely as possible.
