I prefer mom and pop shops to chain stores. Sometimes it's a bit busy in there, but you do get very personalized attention. I took 2 lamps to be repaired there and they charged me only $20 apiece. I also took a chandelier to have some work done and get cleaned up, and they did a beautiful job at a very fair price. It was far less than I expected. I needed a light for a powder room and was trying to decide on a couple. They took down the display models, wired them so I could plug them into an outlet, and let me take them home to check them out in my bathroom. They didn't charge me anything to do so! It's a good thing I did take them home, because the one I thought I preferred would nit work out there. So it was good I had the back up. That one also happened to be on sale, and I got a much better price than I expected. I bought a ceiling fan as well. Upon installing it, the motor wasn't working properly. The store ordered another to replace it. Again, they were very helpful and offered to replace it immediately.

I've never had an occasion to be in one, however, until I recently picked up some cool vintage lamps at auction that needed re-wiring and shades. After checking out Yelp and inquiring with friends, I was pointed to Frazier Home Lighting, so I loaded the lamps up and off we went. The shop is located on a busy section of Lancaster Avenue, in a sort of industrial/mercantile area. They have a parking lot with plenty of spaces, and multiple doors you can go in, and it doesn't seem to matter too much which one you use. I was greeted quickly by Janice, and explained to her what I was looking for. The lamps, each weighing about 20 pounds, were still in my car and she quickly told me to pull up right next to a door and sent one of her employees to bring the lamps in for me. She asked what color my table was so we could choose wire color (dark brown), asked if I had the "globes" - what I had was what I brought so I said no - and told me to come back in a week. Okey dokey. So a week later I go in. They have my lamps, they have one 'globe' which turns out to be a glass piece that encircles the bulb. I had no idea this was even part of the lamp, they are an unusual make and they don't come to auction often. They showed me how the globe fits and they also had the correct size bulb, as again, these are older and the socket is different. Then they went with me over to shades and worked with me to find a shade I liked - even offering to have me take some shades home to see how I liked them. I found one I liked and they loaded me up. Paid, no problem, one globe is on order, they will call me when it's ready. I'm SO glad I didn't just try to go get a rewiring kit as friends suggested. I would never have known about the missing piece, and it makes a difference in how the lamps distribute light. So thank you Home Lighting for your expertise and excellent service. Not everything is in stock, but there will be catalogs for you to view and anything that needs to be ordered will be in usually within a week. Our staffer was extremely professional with his help and suggestions. There was absolutely no pressure to purchase anything. I even heard him recommend a competitor to another customer because they could not accommodate their request. The store is going through a renovation but is still open. It's nice to actually speak with salespeople who know their products and want to help their customers. They will match any internet pricing, too. I would definitely come here rather than the big box stores for your lighting fixture and ceiling fan needs.

I REALLY don't recommend getting a lamp repaired here at all…read more I needed a new lampshade harp for a vintage lamp I was giving as a gift. The existing harp (lampshade holder) was too tall and permanently attached so it could not be just swapped out. I contracted to have a new harp and saddle (the part the new harp locks into) installed that would work with my shade. When I got home after picking up the lamp, I noticed the harp was not locking into the saddle because the saddle bracket was way too small. Meaning the thing the lampshade would sit on was not being held securely in place. Immediately called and took the lamp back to the store and they tried different parts, all of which had the same problem. They ended up telling me "that's just the way it is now with parts". They expected me to accept inferior parts and service! During that time I spoke with both the CEO and the President of the store, long story short, they told me they knew the pieces did not fit together as intended and rather than being upfront about it before the work was done, kept blaming it on "Chinese manufacturing" rather than finding a better supplier that made parts that actually fit together. Bottom line is now I'm left with a harp does not completely fit into it's bracket, with no way to lock it into place, short of soldering or gluing them together. They refunded my money for the harp and holder (not the labor of course). But now I have a lamp that was intended as a gift with an insecure lampshade holder and will be looking to find another lamp to cannibalize for the parts and perform the work myself in order to give it as a gift. -- They are perfectly content to use inferior parts that they know are not compatible with each other and blaming it on manufacturing. He was booked out for quite awhile but he set a time range around of 2-3 months when he'd be able to start the repair and restoration of our family heirloom mid century floor lamp. Once a date was set, we dropped off the lamp at his shop, got a more specific price range, set a "top" price which not to go over, and left the lamp. It took maybe a month or so before it was ready for pickup. We couldn't get over how he re wired, completely refurbished, and brought our lamp back to life! It's now gorgeous and functional. :)

I understand that a good antique light is going to cost more than junk from Target. So I am not complaining about antiques costing quite bit more than other lighting. You can find much better prices if you search on etsy, ebay, or take a trip to local salvage stores like Re-store or even Provenance or Classic Lighting. Anastasia's Antiques has a good bit of lighting too. None of those stores I just listed are inexpensive, but they are not freaking outrageous like this place.
