I had an appointment here with Manjola to discuss transferring/cashing a CD that my deceased…read moregrandmother opened in mine and her names. I brought all the documents with me and she took copies and said I would require another appointment while she researched how to process with my name change after getting married. She said she would get back to me. 2 weeks go by and I called and left a message for her. I am pretty patient at this time but how long can she need? Another few days pass and I speak to someone who says she is not in that day but she would have her contact me. That was early September and never any follow up while she has copies of my marriage license and grandmother's death certificate. From their website page for that location, Manjola is the bank manager. I have serious questions if the bank manager didn't know how to process what has to be a pretty commonplace request and also is not concerned with follow up. She had asked me if I wanted to transfer the cd and open a checking account there. No thanks. I use Bank of America and they take great care of me.

Stated simply: Chelsea State Bank is a phenomenal small-town local bank (yes, yes, I know, Chelsea…read moreis a "city" now). Here is why: 1) The tellers in both of the Chelsea locations are very personable and tend to remember your face/name. It definitely has that small town feeling. 2) The fee structure is extremely lenient/minimal, and readily comprehensible (it is easy to avoid getting hit with fees). 3) CSB has far less paperwork than I've been given at other banks. Also, there was only one page of hardcore legalese. Most of it was refreshingly easy to understand (without a legal degree). I can't speak for the Dexter location (I think they have a Dexter location...), as I haven't been there (though I would expect much the same since Chelsea and Dexter are two peas in a pod). I have used both of their Chelsea locations. I prefer the downtown one because it has a more welcoming, small-bank feeling - but they are both good :) The only real downsides are that the CSB locations are only in the Chelsea/Dexter area and the "downtown" location can be a little difficult to get in and out of (very dense traffic) - not too difficult though, since the residents of the sprawling metropolis of Chelsea *cough cough* will usually be friendly about letting you in. The other Chelsea location (which is right down the street from the downtown one) is very easy to get in and out of and has plenty of parking. In summary: It is very, very hard to find honest, genuinely customer-service-oriented banks in this day and age of big-business banking. Chelsea State Bank is one such bank. I use them. I've had a number of friends who have used them. I'm sure there are horror stories out there somewhere (every place seems to have them), but I have yet to have (or hear of) an even remotely negative experience with Chelsea State Bank.

A HUGE shoutout has to be given to Carie Tillman, a Branch Manager, who went above and beyond to help make my transactions simple and seamless.
