The conservatory was absolutely beautiful, with so many different flowers, plants, and unique rooms to explore. The Alice in Wonderland displays they did were super cute and really well done! My only wish is that they had incorporated the Alice in Wonderland theme throughout more of the conservatory because I would have loved to see even more of it. But overall, it was such a beautiful and relaxing place to explore. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Pittsburgh! l And you definitely have to hit the gift shop

We bought the tickets in advance online, but you can also purchase it at the entrance. Recommend bringing a water bottle since there are various water refilling station in the conservatory.

Although some also say it is from the strip mills that were once in the area. Regardless of how it got its name, it is a wonderful place that anyone spending time in Pittsburgh should visit! There are restaurants of every variety. Polish, Vietnamese, seafood, Italian and the original Primanti Brothers location! There is a winery, butcher shop, places to buy kitchen items, a spice store, tons of Pittsburgh themed sports and souvenir shops. Candy stores, Pittsburgh popcorn. Maybe the most known entity is Wholey's Market with their amazing selection of fresh seafood. The strip is always busy during the day, especially on Saturday and Sunday. It is a little less crazy in the evenings because a lot of the retail stores are only open until 5, but there are still plenty of great spots to grab a bite. It is easily walkable and there are a wide variety of parking options (a municipal garage near one end, surface lots, metered spots and some businesses (like Wholey's) have their own lots. What is great is that anyone can enjoy the Strip District. You can enjoy time with your family, wander on your own, have a girls day our or have a date day. So many fun things to choose from. Voila, Highland Park saved the day. The thing that attracted me most was the playground that featured plenty of shade as well as playscapes that worked for various ages including babies with a soft floor. I also want to highlight that this park features hiking trails and a great view overlooking downtown Pittsburgh. It's tucked into a historic neighborhood so the drive to the park was also pleasant. If I lived in the area, I could see myself frequenting this park. Overall a wonderful experience and we will definitely visit the next time we are in Pittsburgh!

When I moved to Bloomfield, we were still able to make the walk and enjoy the urban landscope in the center of two busy city neighborhoods (Shadyside & Point Breeze). There are different entrances and the park actually has space on either side of Fifth Avenue. Lots of lush greenery and gardens to walk and enjoy. Certain parts have Victorian-era England vibes.

Phipps Run is a woodland and wetland area in Schenley Park which is currently undergoing a…read morerestoration project. Its restoration is the cornerstone in renewing the ecological health of the area. The project includes removing invasive species, restoring native plant and animal life, and cleaning up pollution. Phipps Run begins at the top of Panther Hollow near CMU. The address I gave you is approximate. It's a good alternate entrance to Schenley Park if you're biking or hiking. The run leads down to Panther Hollow Lake. Years of erosion and storm water runoff have caused extensive damage to the trail system down here. The erosion was so severe that the stream actually rerouted itself, taking out a footpath and an historic bridge. The flooding made access to Panther Hollow Lake extremely difficult and unpleasant. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservacy and the City's DPW have begun a restoration in the Phipps Run area. The project included redirecting the stream's upper part to its original run. A storm water control project included building basins to control water runoff. A streamside trail was rebuilt, providing better access. An ongoing project in the lower part of Phipps Run includes rerouting the stream channel to its original path. The conservacy is also planting native plants along the stream and on the surrounding hillsides. The goal is to increase the stability and sustainability of the area. My girlfriends and I love hiking through Schenley Park. We've been watching the progress made throughout the years. Once the Phipps Run and Panther Hollow Lake projects are completed, this will be a five star area.
