I would encourage patients to find alternate care with a provider who is transparent in scheduling practice and provides proper customer service training for their staff.

The office staff however, is another story. They refuse to do simple things like following up with insurance to get prior authorizations for medications they prescribed. I have one medication that was prescribed 2 months ago that they still haven't submitted the paperwork for. When I called to tell them that insurance still hadn't received the paperwork, and to ask that they send a new prescription to the pharmacy so I could buy it out of pocket (because I actually need the meds...) they intentionally hung up on me. Several weeks later, they sent me a letter in the mail saying they are dropping me as a patient. I guess they only take patients that don't require paperwork. I recognize that those of us with chronic illnesses are more work, but that doesn't mean we deserve to be dropped just because some of our medications require prior authorizations. Also, if you're considering David Ottolenghi (the other doctor at the practice) beware, he doesn't believe in vaccines... I sure wouldn't want a doctor who trusts politicians over science.

I recently had a consultation call with the nutritionist--not a dietitian, there is a HUGE…read moredifference--Sara, and I concluded that this service resembles a scam. The phone call felt like a "too good to be true" sales pitch, I was pressured to make a decision on the spot, and asked to provide my payment information which they charged immediately for my first appointment. Fortunately, I got my wits about me and did 2 minutes of research and reflected on the many red flags that emerged in the phone call such as: 1) Everyone must take a $295 IgG food sensitivity test because "everything is caused by your gut." False. This test is rejected by several medical associations because it has no scientific validity. Google it. 2) The results of this bogus test are then used to create your "treatment plan" which must include an elimination diet supervised by Sara, the not-dietitian. 3) But don't worry, you'll also get detox smoothies! Another bogus thing that is not necessary if you are the proud owner of a liver and kidneys. As a person with training in the scientific method and evidence-based practices, I was pretty amazed that people would spend a minimum of $5,200 for a three-month "wellness journey package" that is built on pseudoscience. That's nearly twice my out-of-pocket maximum--just think of all the scientifically valid medical services I could get in a whole year for that amount! The immense dissatisfaction people have with traditional medical services has led to such desperation that these types of sham services are profiting big time. I'm dissatisfied as hell, but I exercised my critical thinking skills before I got taken. I asked to have my money refunded and was told it would take 7-10 business days--I was refunded within several days.

Dr. Shannon recommended some labs to find out what the cause was, sadly most insurance companies do not authorize these essential labs. Once we determined the cause of my health issues, it was clear how to address it. It was a lot of work on my part to follow the protocol, no magic pill here. That being said, I was sick of being sick and it was worth the necessary dietary changes (which were making me ill in the first place) I did not focus on losing weight but on healing my gut and after 6 months I can say I feel 100% better. my body does not feel like I am 90 anymore, I have energy. I am slowly loosing the weight I want in a safe manner. It was totally worth my out of pocket expense to get well. Dr Shannon communicates well. Quick to respond and answer questions.

I have…read moreprivate insurance (BCBS PPO) that covers urgent care visits, yet I was told at the front desk that I needed to pay $250 upfront because my insurance was "out of network" and my deductible hadn't been met. During this interaction, the front desk staff asked me what my "preferred language" was even though I was speaking clearly in English the entire time and never used another language. The question felt unnecessary and inappropriate, and I have serious doubts that this is asked of every patient. Because I was confident my visit should only require a $50 copay, I chose to leave. What stood out most was how quickly my ID was handed back without any attempt to verify the insurance information, consult a supervisor, or offer to bill me later especially given that the waiting room was completely empty. I then went to another Banner Health location on Drake Rd and was immediately told that I was in network and that my deductible had already been met. This raises serious concerns about how insurance verification is handled at this location and whether assumptions are being made about patients. I would not recommend this location based on my experience.

I knew I had not but still it concerned me. Very stressful to hear and utterly false. A cascade of tests later (at UCH) revealed that the physician at Banner had only concurred with the faulty interpretations offered by the software of her EKG machine. That would be Doctor Bellmore at Banner. In contrast, the UCH heart surgeon I saw for the cascade of tests, taken only as a precaution, was genuinely impressed by the condition of my heart and overall health. He found no evidence of any heart attack. My care at Banner induced months of needless anxiety. Not totally anxiety but plenty just the same. The front desk personnel were about 50/50 as to whether they would be supportive or induce more stress themselves. My advice? If you are a senior stay away.

Since the switch to the corporate "Village Medical" things have gone badly downhill. Getting appointments is a challenging process as all phone calls go to third parties not even located in the US. You can never speak to your local staff or office personally. Today I took my toddler in for his appt for an acute sickness and they turned me away because we are in between insurance plans. Although we were happy to pay out of pocket that is against their policies. This tells me they care more about getting big bucks from insurance companies than in caring for their patients. Not sure where I can take my sick toddler now, since we are refused care. As you can see from other reviews nobody is happy with Village Medical and the docs here should find new clinics to practice at asap since all us clientele are going to be leaving due to the poor administrative and customer care.
