He told me that after a pressure test on my gas line that there were two leaks in the gas line. He said the pipes could be rusted out and would need to be replaced. If I wanted this to pass inspection I had to okay his estimate for service for $1,155.00 This was $200 for his fee and $955.00 for the repair. I expected to be told that they dug up rusted pipes and replaced them. However, I found out that he subbed out the work to a plumbing company and the two leaks were minor. They involved changing the pipe tape where the fittings went together. This reminds me of going to the car dealer for a noise in the engine and being told it could be the transmission and if you really need to use the car then you have to approve the cost of repair. When coming back to pick up the car you are told it was just a belt, but, because you approved the cost of replacing the transmission, you have to pay $3,000 not $300 for a belt. I don't know if Alex Buie thought it is easy to take advantage of a person not present, or because it is easy to take advantage of a senior citizen, but the charge of $955 to replace the tape used where two fittings come together is exorbitant. I have no complaint with the work done, but I do have an issue with the ethics and the greed of Buie's Heating and Air Do not use this company if ethics and price are important to you.

I made George aware on the Tuesday before christmas it was ready, he said he would look into and get back to me. Since then, there has been zero communication or attempt to complete the job. Even after multiple phone calls and texts from myself and the warranty company. At this point we have to call another contractor to complete the work George was unwilling or unable to do.

In other words the heat pump wasn't working properly. Tristar was sent by the home warranty company to resolve a covered issue. However there were many uncovered issues with the HVAC system and I called Tristar to return to address them. Tristar returned, inspected and diagnosed the entire system, and informed me of their findings. My options were to either attempt to repair a unit close to the end of its service life or replace it. We chose to replace it with a larger and more efficient unit. Tristar did this quickly and professionally. I inspected the old unit when they got it out of the crawl space and it was a wreck in obviously horrible condition. Obvious moisture damage. After the installation, George Williams (the owner) strongly recommended that I install a dehumidifier and told me in no uncertain terms that without one I'd shorten the service life of the new unit. So I asked him to quote me a price. I was surprised when he said he didn't sell them. He was just letting me know that I had to have one! So, I got one and installed it. He also told me that the zone system controlling the ductwork was in bad shape and may need to be replaced but to wait to see whether the dehumidifier would correct the problem. It didn't, but the crawl space dried out. The zone system continued to malfunction so I called Tristar again. They replaced the zone system electronic components. The ductwork itself was fine. After the work was completed George informed me that the water filter on my well pump was a mess and needed attention. I didn't even know it had a filter! George is just that way. If he sees something that needs attention he tells you. He's observant and conscientious. No extra charge. In my experience Tristar is a good company, run by a good man. I cannot recommend them more highly. The new system works very well and was worth the expense.

But, the Powell Brothers show up on time with a more than fair in fact, generous quote. Not only did they fix my unit, but they gained my admiration and friendship. This is what the Powell Brothers bring to our community. The national chains are going to hijack your bank account for their shareholders. They came out to the house on a Friday to clean the blower wheel and condensing coils, and I will add for free because previous techs had not been doing it correctly, is what they said. It really impressed me that they would do something like that. After the service was complete on Friday, the blower turned on, but shortly after, the unit completely stopped working, and the thermostat was completely turned off with a blank screen. Upon further investigation, they had not wired the transformer back up correctly and ended up ruining it. In the photos, the red wire was not supposed to be connected to the other red wire. Once, I called and went by the office to confront them about THEIR mistake!! Michael told me it WASN'T their fault and that parts just go bad and it would cost $230-330 dollars to fix. He claimed that if they felt it was their mistake, they would resolve the issue for free, but even with photo evidence, they were still denying THEIR mistake! I ended up buying a transformer for about $15 and wiring it up CORRECTLY, and the unit turned right on. I would watch out for this company; they will try to take advantage of you and be dishonest, even if all the evidence points to them being in the wrong.

Nice people to work with but the last two times at the house completely misdiagnosed a "problem" I had with my heat pump. Got a second opinion and their analysis was not accurate. Saved me a lot of money having someone else look at it. Had them out one more time and was charged an exorbitant amount for what amount to 15 minutes of work. Upon inspection in the attic is was not cleaned up as they said it would be. In summary, nice people, check their work, if something seems more expensive than it should be, get a second opinion. Be suspicious of "problems" that need to be addressed.
