Ceviche is my favorite and I could have just drank the juice it was the most flavorful!!! I could have gotten two whole Leche de Tigre to myself just because of the juice!!! I have had Picarones at a couple different places and this was by far the best!!! I have never had the Lucuma Mousse and they need that as a staple in ALL Peruvian places!!! I first moved to CDMX in the late 70s, worked not far away, and somehow never visited before today. To find the place, just follow the aroma of roasting coffee beans. We came midweek during comida hour. It was not crowded and everyone was kind and attentive. Although I was craving plátano frito and moros y cristianos, we opted for the comida del día. They were unfortunately out of the better dishes, so the food was good Mexican fare, but not my favorite choices. The vegetable soup was excellent with a nice broth and generous portions of vegetables that maintained good consistency and flavor. The tortillas were very hot and soft. The bolillo was just okay. The agua today was jamaica. I was a little afraid of eating lettuce, but couldn't resist the next course, which was a green salad. For the main course, my husband had the milanesa de cerdo which came with mashed potato and I had flautas de papa with frijoles refritos that reminded me of rehydrated ones. The flautas were nicely crisped and topped with crema, queso fresco and lettuce. The green salsa was not spicy at all, which is always disappointing, but it had a good flavor and we finished it all. We skipped the gelatin dessert, but found the coffee to be very good. We took home a kilo of their coffee beans and a slice of pastel de elote for later. Overall a good value for the price. We just loved the vibe here and will be back soon.

The restaurant is more like an open space cafeteria and it seemed like the place was nearly full. Its a very interesting place and you can tell by some of the antique furniture and old style coffee grinder. I would bet that this restaurant was even more popular fifty years ago. Expected for the neighborhood, but steep for what is, at heart, elevated Venezuelan street food. We ordered the arepa tasting: six warm, griddled half-arepas served like DIY fajitas, with two meats, three cheeses, and three house-made sauces (chipotle, garlic, and avocado). The format encouraged creativity, but 60% of the offerings leaned on cheeses--mostly mild, forgettable, and largely untouched on our plates. The grilled and pulled meats were solid, as were the arepa bases: crisp-edged, warm, and fragrant. The sauces helped pull it all together, though often had to do too much of the flavor work. A side of avocado and underripe tomato did little to elevate the meal. Service was attentive and kind--our server's advice not to over-order was spot on. But while the experience was pleasant, the food fell short of memorable. For the price, there simply wasn't enough depth or distinction. The torta con bistek that I ordered was chido. It was made to my order, and brought to our table piping hot! My friend got the Papa Gaga which was a meatball feast. The meatballs were made with soy not regular beef, and it included trigo, and ricotta cheese. I was so tempted to try out one of their Coca Cola floats bit I instead stick with a Penafiel water. Their ice cream malts and shakes also appeared to be delicious. I actually haven't run across a restaurant that has so many different milkshakes and deserts. I can't even remember the last time that I indulged in a real banana split. I will for sure be their ING to this restaurant in the future.
