I stumbled across this place when my favorite jeans became unwearable. Sonny was Amazing!!! Very attentive when explaining what I needed done, and a true professional in going further to explain things I didn't consider and creating a vision of the finished item. Quoted a price that was extremely reasonable and an appropriate turn around time which was shorter than expected. I want to give her LESS than 1 star. I needed my work pants (6 of them) repaired, not altered. She showed apathy to my needs. I get my work pants from a paint store for $15/pair. I asked if it was worth repairing and she said "sure it is" She noted that she respects doing business with a fellow business owner. I gave her 6 pair of pants feeling good about going there. TWO MONTHS later I get a call from her saying my pants are ready. I figured $60-70 would be the price. $100 dollars later I walked out. I could've bought 6 NEW pairs for a few dollars more. We have been using Polly's alteration for about 30 years. Our alterations have been very professional and more than acceptable. She has taken on impossible tasks and completed them in great style. We're completely satisfied in every way. I would point out that Polly does not suffer fools gladly. If you want something for nothing, if you're a whiner, or if you want to talk down to people doing service work, then you should take your business elsewhere. The absolute worst. All I did was call to get a quote on hemming some pants. She told me $15 which is crazy to me, I paid $15 for my whole suit alteration back home and they were the best in the game. So then I began to ask her for a discount as I have about 15 pairs of pants I would have brought in. Which is $225 for sewing some damn cloth together. So then she asked me if and I quote "do they give you a discount on my paycheck" WTF. Told me it was all labor, well yeah of course it is I'm not dumb. She was so rude in her tone and responded to me like it was a crazy question and then told me I was being extra sensitive. I was pissed!!!!! If Polly's thinks they are high and mighty with their over priced tailoring, they can't even talk to anyone with a decent tone. I hope this review helps no one to ever deal with the morons ever. Really wish I had read the reviews before I went here. I dropped off a vest with a zipper (pocket) that was extremely stuck. I should have asked how much it was going to be, but i just assumed it wouldn't be more than $15. When I went to pick up my item, the zipper was still stuck and they had replaced the main zipper (that was completely fine), and charged me $28! Now mistakes happen, and I completely understand that, but the lady was not at all apologetic and was a little rude about THEIR mistake! She told me she would fix my zipper, for no additional charge. Like its my fault they fixed the wrong thing! The more I thought about it the more it frustrated me so I called back and asked about the pricing, I felt like I should have been given some sort of refund since I paid for work that wasn't supposed to be done in the first place. She gave me a whole $3 back and was not at all friendly or apologetic on the phone. When I went back to pick up my vest again, the zipper was unstuck but had clearly not been replaced. Ripoff. Due to the customer service and high prices, I would NOT recommend this place. I think the only thing she has going for her is her location. I pass it all the time so it was the first place I thought of when I needed an alteration. $25 lesson learned. read more

Was in town for a week and needed to get the sleeves taken up on a shirt and jacket as well as the legs on a pair of pants. Dropped the items off on a Monday and got them back Thursday morning...all were excellent quality work and the price was reasonable. I would definitely do business here again. Unfortunately, Yelp made me choose a star. Save yourself the trouble. What a ROTTEN individual. I went to take a shirt that wasn't in great shape and I've never been more disrespected in my life when I'm about to bring business to somebody. Even fast food workers won't treat you like this. After a long disrespectful conversation, I told Polly "I think I'll take my shirt back" and she said "I think you should do that." No apology, no toning it down. How rude is that?? I was hoping to find a place to bring all my business too, this was just to see how they'd do on one piece. Fail. Not to mention her hole in the wall shop, smelled like dog pee. The best part? The market always figures itself out. It comes back around at some point. DON'T take your clothes here, find somewhere else and let them do it. Even if it costs a few more bucks. Sonny is the rudest, most condescending, immature business owner I have ever encountered in my life. I called to ask a question about a dress for my girlfriend. She was stressed about not having it ready in time for the wedding so I simply called to ask if I could pay extra to put a rush order in, if that was possible. I never got to ask my question. Sonny spoke to me as though I was stupid. He proceeded to catch a nasty attitude and talk down to me when all I had asked if there was a dress there under my girlfriends name. Raising his voice and continuing to become more and more condescending. After a moment I asked "what kind of business are you running? What do you mean you don't know if it's there?" I was confused as to why he was being so nasty, when he could have politely explained the policy to me. NEVER EVER in my life have I been on a phone with a business exchanging f-bombs with a business owner. He asked me, for example: "who the f do you think you are". Naturally, that would make most people lose their temper. So after a couple minutes, I hung up. THIS MAN CALLS MY PHONE BACK TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. I ignored the first call. When I answered the second call, he said "you're an idiot" and hung up. Our first conversation was bad enough, but you decided that it was appropriate to call me back multiple times to call me an idiot? And proceed to tell ME to grow up? I began recording our first phone conversation the moment I noticed Sonny's attitude. What made it worse is when I spoke to the actual owner, Judy, cut me off and dismissed me when I tried to explain to her what had happened. She told me I must've called the wrong place and Sonny would never do that because "that's not his personality". Well the recording I have says differently, Judy. I get almost every dress I buy altered, so I have spent a lot of my life with seamstresses and tailors. Things aren't always ready on time and they don't always turn out right the first try. It's disappointing, but it's the nature of the business. Not at any tailor, not at any business, ever, have I come across such atrocious customer service. The owner, Polly, is insane and incompetent! I showed up to pick up a dress that I had dropped off four days earlier (along with four other dresses). I asked that this dress be ready today so that I could take it to an out-of-town wedding that I am leaving for tomorrow. I was assured it would be ready. I had an unlimited timeline for the other pieces. The only alteration required on the dress was to let out the hem. The dress was not ready when I arrived. I was annoyed. I asked why she had not called me to tell me it would not be ready as promised. The owner did not once apologize to me, but instead immediately began berating me, she questioned me about how long I had known about the wedding, made lots of snarky, bizarre comments and repeatedly explained (in a loud voice) that this was all my fault, not hers. I asked that she return my dresses, all of them, as I'd prefer to take my business elsewhere. At one point she said "Whatever terrible things you're thinking about me, I promise you we're all thinking those things about you too, plus some." By all I assume she was included the other two members of her staff who were present, and whom she was barking orders at while I was there. After a bizarre episode where she kept insisting I sign various papers to take the dresses back that had not been altered, I left the store (having signed as she asked) only for her to follow me into the parking lot screaming and hollering about who knows what. It's very sad because the woman I worked with when I dropped the dresses off could not have been more lovely. She was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. But, it's Polly's business, and today she made it quite clear to me: she doesn't do what she says she is going to do (meet the deadline promised) and she doesn't want my business (or else she would have apologized for failiing to meet the agreed upon deadline, rather than behaving like a maniac). Long story short -- if you're still reading this -- DO NOT GO HERE! More likley than not, you'll regret it. (I should have known when I saw all the signs posted every where about how they only accept cash for alterations to certain types of dresses and all sorts of other disclaimers, such as after 30 days they are no longer responsible for your garmets, etc etc. This business is not interested in customer service.) read more

The owner is a loon! The price she gave when we took a vest in to be altered for a wedding less than a week later was $55. When we go to pick it up, she says $75 and cash only when it's clear that they accept checks because of the sign that reads "cash or checks". She also tried to say that she would not give us the vest unless the person who is wearing it tried it on when he is a trucker and can not do that. This angered her to the point she jacked the price up $25. She has the worst customer service I ever witnessed. She needs to be shut down and deserves no business whatsoever. read more

I dropped off a pair of pants to have the zipper replaced in the third week of August 2015. The owner (Polly) accepted the pants in her store where I clearly asked for the zipper to be replaced. She asked for my phone number and did not write down any further detail while I was in the store. She said they would call when the pants were ready for pick-up. Over 4 weeks later (9/22/15), I called Polly's Alterations asking about the status of my item. She said it was done and they called me on 9/1/15. I searched my call history and didn't find this instance. And if they happened to call, there certainly wasn't a voicemail or follow-up call informing me of the alteration being completed. There was no apology for this miscommunication on the phone, only a declaration that she did not want to keep my stuff in the store any longer than necessary. When I went to pick up the pants, the old zipper was used to make the repair. When I asked about it, Polly said I did not tell her to replace the zipper, only fix it. She basically yelled at me (the customer!) and waived the handwritten ticket around where she wrote down alteration instructions. I've never experienced service this terrible in my life. I'd rather drive to another state than use this place again. Should have checked Yelp before trying her the first time given that these issues are clearly recurring. I'm shocked that Polly's is still in business. Avoid it at all costs! read more

Okay, soooo I normally do not like to say negative things about anyone and or their business. However, this situation really caught me off guard. First of all, while I'm waiting to be seen, I heard, who I assume is Polly using profanity on her office phone. Secondly, I attempt to tell her what type of service I am interested in. I pull out my phone to show and explain to her what I am actually looking for. Immediately, she RUDELY interrupts "I don't look at phones so you can put it up. And just stands there. Never looked at the picture at all. WTH!!! I only wanted her to take a look and tell me if she provides the service I need. Geesh!! At least look and maybe offer suggestions on where I should go. I started over with the greeting of the day, thinking maybe she is having a bad day. Giving her an opportunity to rethink how she is current talking to a potential client. NOPE, not the case. She is just rude and unprofessional. I am, again, rudely cut off with the same response. Eventually she looks at the picture and confirms that she is unable to help me. (side eye) After the piss poor customer service within the 1st minute of our conversation, I will be taking my additional items elsewhere for alterations. I will never recommend her to anyone. Miss Polly is a life saver! I received a silk chiffon bridesmaid dress in the mail two weeks before the wedding, it was about 4inches too small. My bride had purchased from a warehouse and it was the last batch so there was no replacing it. I came to Miss Polly and she was able to add 4 inches to the dress for me! It fits perfectly!! And best of all she did it in less than a week. So thankful she was recommended to me! The price was extremely reasonable given the material and time frame. I am an Army veteran and I went into this establishment to get my Army dress blues fitted for my wedding later this month. I went to the counter and inquired if this could be done. The older, white lady (Polly?) very rudely told me that she would no longer accept business from military personnel because she supposedly had a room full of military uniforms that were never picked up. I understand being frustrated if other service members did not pay her for the work that she put into their uniforms. However, as a new customer, I was not part of the problem. In fact, I would have gladly paid up front for the alterations but since she was such an unpleasant termagant, I chose to take my business elsewhere. Also, the whole store smells strongly of urine. In fact, I now can't wear what they "fixed" and am going to have to find someone else to correct the hack job done by Polly's Alterations. Went in 3 weeks ago to get a bridesmaid dress altered. Went in last week to try the dress on and the dress still did not fit so she said she would fix it and I would have it back in a week. I went back yesterday to pick up the dress and instead of taking out the dress a little and fixing the straps, she took it in one inch and made the straps tighter. KEEP IN MIND, the wedding is THIS Saturday. She was extremely rude and was yelling at me and raising her voice about how she could not fix it and saying very inappropriate things to someone who was giving her business. I chose to take the dress elsewhere in Raleigh, NC and when they saw the dress they were appalled. They said that the seams were coming undone and that it was done terribly. For how much was paid, this was absolutely ridiculous and I had to have someone fix what she destroyed. (Still to be determined if what she did to my bridesmaid dress can be fixed). I would NOT recommend this business to anyone and would tell EVERYONE to stay far far away from Polly. She is rude and unprofessional and going somewhere else was like taking a deep breath of fresh air. (Literally in a sense because her building is cluttered and smells terrible). read more

I have never posted a negative review before but I think this deserves a warning. This place came highly recommended and my husband took some dress pants in that were hand-me-downs to have the pants length hemmed. The tailor (presumably Polly) insisted on other alterations but refused to give us a price. She then became angry, defensive and downright insulting (I wont go into details but needless to say I was floored by what she said to me) when we explained that these were hand-me-downs and we needed to know whether it was worth it to invest in tailoring. This only escalated when I asked her to just do the pants length and not the other alterations. She refused and slowly took each pin out and handed me the pile of pants back. The whole exchange was bizarre. For all I know she's a great tailor, but I would only recommend her to people who don't care what the bill is going to be and don't mind having no say in what parts of the clothes get tailored. read more
