The museum is beautifully designed, with a spacious layout, abundant natural light, and thoughtfully curated exhibits. I spent over two hours exploring, and every moment was worth it. Getting there was easy--I took an Uber from my hotel, and the ride was quick both ways. It was a cool and informative spot that gave you a nice surface level on the history of Vancouver, BC. The information wasn't too excessive and the props and displays were well positioned. They even had nice areas throughout the museum that made a good spot for a quick photoshoot! Unfortunately, the staff were not friendly and were bery dismissive and lacked information when asked. There were two at the front desk that were judgemental, as well, as they made some rude comments about us to one another.

It made the conference that much more awesome. HIGHLY recommend the museum as an event space! The house reflects his own craftsmanship in construction and decoration, and grew from its origins as a cabin to a mansion of many rooms, soaring ceilings, windowed walls, and outdoor stairways. Leo's folly is the grotto, which he continues to work on after 17 years. Wine also is his passion, and his wine room has patterned walls made of used corks. Altogether, a wonderful tour.

On exhibit at the museum during our visit was an up close and personal view of various modes of connections in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. Some displays welcomed personal input. The very friendly staff encouraged our participation in the interactive activities. By completing an electronic large screen questionnaire, I learned a few new things! The staff was also very willing to share added tidbits about the exhibits and the town. The location of this museum is ideal, in lovely downtown Port Coquitlam, and is steps away from the cenotaph, city hall and Port Coquitlam's Gathering Place. It is also a short distance from a beautiful walking path along the river. We spent a very pleasant afternoon here. This quaint museum is well worth a visit!

Driving the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver, we did slow travel and stopped at the turn outs,…read moretook the side hikes and knew when we got to the Britannia Mine it was a must stop. The entire campus is so interesting. We bought our tickets for the tour and then stepped into the theater to watch a short film and then explored the museum, the shop and then it was time to head up the hill to start your tour. We have done other mine tours and this was by far the best. We grabbed our hard hats, met our tour guides Mike and Connor and found our seats in the mine car. We traveled into one of the mine tunnels about 6 minutes in until the end, while learning about the mine along the way. Once the mine train came to a stop, we stepped out into the tunnel and Mike proceeded to give history of the mine and then demonstrate different types of mining equipment over the years and how tools somewhat evolved. Then we walked from one tunnel to the next and learned about the dynamite that was set and how the Muckers cleaned out the debris from the tunnels with a demonstration of the equipment used. We then walked back down the hill to the huge processing building that stands tall over the valley, the sound and built into the mountain. We explored a bit, Mike and Connor answered questions and talked about the processing of the ore. Then it was time to sit and watch the show "Boom" that explained every step of the processing and it was fantastic. We highly recommend this experience if you ever find yourself on the Sea to Sky Highway. Just a tip, I didn't see an elevator to get passengers to the top to join the ride into the mine shaft, and after the mine portion of the tour, you walk down a gravel hill to get to the processing building. So if you are with someone who has challenges walking, climbing stairs and hills and walking downhill, I don't recommend the mine shaft portion of the tour. You can join in on the multi-sensory "Boom" show much easier.

The train ride was by far the coolest part of the experience. Going deep into the mountain and seeing the tunnels where people actually worked was honestly way more interesting than I expected. Photos really don't do it justice because a lot of what makes it so memorable is the atmosphere. It's dark, damp, a little eerie, and also incredibly fascinating. I also tried the gold panning which was surprisingly addictive. Unfortunately my luck was absolutely terrible. Every time I thought I had found something exciting it ended up being fool's gold. The museum itself is very well done and there are lots of interactive exhibits. The giant mill building is impressive. You can see it from the highway but standing inside it really puts into perspective how massive the operation once was. I wasn't expecting to spend as much time here as I did. Overall, if you're driving the Sea to Sky and debating whether to stop; do it.

The docent that greeted us was friendly and informative, telling us that the museum was at one time six separate one-room residences that were dismantled and rebuilt to make this current museum. Full of many early and late century household items, placard's describing the way of life on the island, and has loads of interesting artifacts, photographs, and materials showing Orcas Island early community and civilization.

Stopped into Kilby on the way to a stay in Harrison Hot Springs last week. Our stop and walkabout…read morewas made specifically to take a peak at the current condition of flooding affecting the Lake, beach, and campground area there. We drove down to the campground area, and were able to park on the road, just to the front of the highway signs, and barriers that had been erected to stop any further passage by vehicles, and warnings to those on foot to be careful. Most of the beach and campground areas were totally under water from the river and lake flooding currently affecting the area. It looked, and felt strange to see roadways, sites, signs, and most everything we know so well at this location, submerged in water!! We talked to a couple of area residents, and were told that this particular area of Kilby floods each year, and although flooding this year was significant, it was not nearly as bad as some previous years, when more of the area homes, cottages, et al, were also more directly affected. They said that conditions had basically stabilized at this time, and retreating of the water should be taking place soon. Hope for all their sakes, retreating of the water has started for them, and this lovely area of Harrison Mills within the Kilby Historic Site, will be back to normal soon.
