It's very out of the way, but if you're up for a walk, it isn't really that far from the city centre on a nice summer evening. Service was extremely friendly from beginning to end. Our server was new, I think it was his second day, but he was funny and delightful and always answered our questions even if he had to ask someone else. Other hosts and servers came to take our coats and offer us water, and we felt very "looked after" all evening. I had a few glasses of wine - they only do 125 ml and 250 ml, so though I had originally planned on a 175 ml...well, oops! Guess I have to have a big 'un! They had quite a nice list of bottles, offering a variety of choices. We started by splitting the ham terrine with a crispy pig's head fritter, which was very good and must be ordered with bread - they'll bring it to you for free if you ask! Nice toasted bread on a plank with soft butter. The terrine was delicious, and went well with the creamy caper sauce served on top. The little fritter was excellent, filled with tender, flavourful cheek meat. Yum! I had the hake for my main, which was cooked very well, and was fresh and light. The flavours were subtle and simple, and I think I hoped for a little more close-your-eyes-and-sigh amazingness. My fiancé loved his veal, which I tasted and thought was absolutely excellent. Both dishes were beautifully presented and filled with fresh ingredients. The double-dipped chips were outstanding, as was the seasonal side of rainbow chard. For dessert we shared some kind of luscious chocolate thing (useful I know) with raspberries and a side of fantastic ice cream. All in all, a great place to go for a celebratory meal. It is a little pricey but very appropriate for the lovely setting, excellent service, and high quality of food.

It's not the best name in the world, and the guests at the meal I attended last Saturday agreed it sounds like a soup kitchen! It's the old Black Door chef, having parted from the owner, who has gone to the Morpeth Black Door. If that makes sense :-S However, the food was fantastic. My pea soup was VERY pea-ey, in a green and pea-esque way. I was going to say full of peaness, but that sounds really wrong :-) My main was Coley and greens, which was fresh and tasty, and the dessert was Lemon posset, which had blackcurrants on the top. They counteracted the sweetness of the posset, and flattered the flavour of the lemon. The staff were friendly and helpful, and completely on the ball. My only criticism was that I got the sediment from the red wine 3 times in my glass which, although harmless, looked like tealeaves, and on the second time I asked the waitress to change my glass, she thought it necessary to tell me it was "just sediemnt" implying that I perhaps should accept my fate. I replied that I knew what it was, but that it didn't make me want it any the more. It's an odd location, the Biscuit Factory, but I would say it's easily one of the best around Newcastle.

The smell from this place is always very strong, drifting right into the street: fresh bread and juicy fillings. A great choice of filling availble, hearty sandwich meals at a good price. In April i had the opportunity to spend two nights…read moreat this luxurious hotel whilst attending a wedding, the place itself is very hard to find and is in the middle of nowwhere but set in very beautiful grounds. The staff are very friendly. The rooms themselve, we had a very big bed, nice size room and jacuzzi in the bathroom. The food at the wedding was extremely good as you would imagine as was the breakfast a very large and enjoyable meal. Highly recommend but be warned very expensive.
