We were looking forward to our final dinner in Italy at the end of a 10-day trip and were very disappointed. It was our worst dinner in Italy after a string of amazing meals, so our expectations were high. But this experience fell far short.
The food was OK. Actually, the carbonara was GREAT but the Suckling Pig was a slice of dry pork covered in a gelatinous gravy. It reminded me of something from a school cafeteria (or a Swanson's frozen TV dinner for those who grew up in the 1970s).
But the worst part was the SERVICE. It wasn't bad, it was hostile. And it wasn't just because we are American. It was equal opportunity hostility. My gut told me to get up and leave after the server aggressively slammed our plates and bread on the table. But this place had been highly recommended by an Italian friend, so we stayed.
I was willing to chalk it up to having a bad day but when I complained to another server, the response was, "He's always like that."
My advice is to try one of the many other fabulous restaurants in Rome. No need to risk it. read more
