Had life saving medication on and the guy didn't care, I either threw my bag away (£70) as he wasn't letting me in with it. It could have been rolled up and put into the black bag I was given by one of his subordinates after he stormed off like a child. He also said that women were allowed in with theirs as their bags are "fashionable" accessories. I'm sorry but mine saves my life!!! I went to see a comedy show, this wasn't the start I wanted and hated my experience/night that I paid good money for. I lost my £70 bag as it wasn't there when I came out. No more trekking over to Manchester to see anyone remotely decent is the hope…read more I'd had my reservations going in, from the outside I think it looks somewhat like a little bit of a monstrosity, but once inside that's forgotten - the First Direct Leeds Arena has arrived, and it's goooood. So very very goooood. The build quality and the finish on the place is fantastic and when you couple that with the really helpful staff they've managed to find somewhere, my feeling is that the Arena is brilliant. I was lucky enough to be the guest (albeit paid) of Gaucho and in their box, and again much like the whole of the Arena, the finish quality is fantastic, kitted out with fridges, sofas, comfy chairs and then a bank of arena seating for when the acts come on. The Cadbury chocolate which was branded for the act was a nice touch too. Holding only 13,000 people it's apparently a 'small' arena, and that's a good thing for me because as someone who loves going to gigs but really cant abide standing 800 metres away from who you're watching, the idea of the arena held thoughts of being too far away to see the act. This isn't the case, and with 13,000 people it still almost feels intimate. I can honestly say that I'm really looking forward to seeing who it attracts, because it really is top notch, it really should bring Leeds some great, really big acts. And yes, I'm really looking forward to not having to trek over to Manchester too. Also, Elton John totally rocked on the official opening night.

Can't hug all the nature. Because that's mental. Anyway. Having read David's recount of this spot, and seeing that it's had barely any Yelp attention, I decided it had to be done - lo and behold, my holiday at home was the perfect time to jump in the car, head over Donny way, and get immersed in looking at cool animals. It was busy, with lots and lots of childrens. We foolishly chose to pick refreshments up from the child's side barn, where the screams of joy are amplified and pierce your ear drums. The other adults didn't seem phased though, perhaps that happens when you start to parent. But, nonetheless a 'coffee' and pasty was had to fuel the walk around, and two coffees, two pasties, and a danish was under a tenner. Nice. The programme booklet is three quid really well spent too, btw. Not only do you get the map, times of the talks and such like, but each section gives a little more and details the various species and offers extra info to take home. Love it! And what can you see? All sorts. It's a 1km complex (roughly) and so has plenty of span. That however, in context with say, how much territory a tiger will cover in the wild, seems small. (But that's not a criticism - more a realisation of how much land these animals need in the wild, and how easy it is to cross over into human territory.) However, their commitment to conservation and preservation is astounding. They've three leopards, brothers, all of whom are something like the primary leopards in the world for eventual re-introduction into the wild - their genes are great, and our best hope lies with breeding them, kinda thing. Apparently leopards are the only big cat that have a half decent chance of reintroduction, although I didn't get a chance to ask why that is. Perhaps as their solitary and don't need so much learning time with their mothers? The giraffes were amazing, and breath-taking to see up close. It's weird to consider how massive their heads are, and it looks as though they live life in slow motion by the way they move - it's kind of hypnotic. They also, in real life, look like the kind of animal you'd have invented as a child. Bizarre but beautiful. Great eyelashes. The African hunting dogs were also amazing. And the fact you can walk through enclosed areas and be so intimately close with wallabys and lemurs was an absolute pleasure. We arrived at Lemur woods just at feeding time, and it was pretty incredible. Want one! Can't have one. Must come back. As a quick recap on the animals I saw, there are farm animals for petting, tigers, lions, leopards, giraffes, hunting dogs, lemurs, wallabys, wild boar, marmosets (who were AWESOME!) ostriches and a bunch more. It's best to go when you get a chance to plan the talks, so you can try and luck out to see the feeding times with the big cats, as sadly we didn't see much action from that crowd. But just spotting a massive leopard sat way up in his climbing frame, and catching the male lion roaring, was enough for me. Basically, it's a great day out. Awesome.

Pretty fun day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. If I lived in the area, I would definitely have an…read moreannual pass. Spending a day at the park is fun yet slightly confusing. The park is large and each enclosure is really big, which seems great for the animals. We spent a few hours here looking at the lovely animals. My mum-in-law lives in Doncaster and this was just minutes down the road. There is plenty of parking and it's pretty easy to find. The entrance to the park is the most built up area of the park. There is a cafe, gift shop, bathrooms, ice cream stand, etc... The rest of the park is pebble and mulch paths. There are no paved path for wheelchairs. The map that is handed out when you purchase your tickets is low quality and confusing. I love maps and this one sucks. It's hard to find what you are looking for and the park is horribly sign posted. That's my big complaint. We were trying to find the Tigers and ended up at some small primate exhibit instead. This is an easy fix for the park, if they can just get some better signs in the park and better maps. The animals all look healthy and happy. The park employees give talks (ranger talks) and do feedings at designated times. They are informative and answer questions. The lion exhibit is special. I didn't know anything about their history, but my mum-in-law filled me in. They were saved from a horrible zoo in Romania and now live in three groups in large enclosures at the Wildlife park. Read up about them before you visit and it makes their happiness that much better. The BEST part of the park is the lemur exhibit. I had no idea they had such an amazing and interactive area with 3 species of lemurs.The huge enclosed area has netting around the sides and top of a large forested area. The lemurs are allowed to roam freely through the area and humans can walk a path through the area. Lemurs jumped from tree to tree right above us. The ring-tailed lemurs had 2 babies (3 months old) with them. We watched the older lemurs teach the younger lemurs to jump from tree to tree. It was AMAZING. There was another species of lemur just sleeping on the ground in some grass. We could walk up to them and take photos. There was a keeper in the enclosure with the lemurs to make sure no one touched the sleeping lemurs and that the lemurs were protected. There is a third species of lemur that they let out at night. They said it chases the ring-tailed babies around so they are keeping them separated while there are babies. This was the coolest exhibit and totally the highlight of the entire wildlife park. At the end of our visit we played on the slides. Near the gift shop are 3 big slides that kids and adults can slide down. Lots of fun! Overall, a great day out. A few improvements need to be made, but the animals looked great and that's the most important thing.

The park is huge. It used to be a a stately home and the grounds are now scattered with medium to very large installation art pieces. There is also a museum for indoor art and installations. The park is huge and the maps are ok, but be prepared to wander. Some of the installations are REALLY far away, so do a reality check before you start walking. Also, this park is NOT flat, so be prepared to go up and down hills dodging sheep, sheep poop, and goose poop as you go. We really enjoyed wandering the park and finding many cool pieces of art. Some of my favorites were the giant sliced up bunny (not quite as weird as it sounds and not gory) and the illuminated "everything is connected". There were several pieces I would have liked to see, but they were just too far away and up hill. When I say far away, it would have taken me an hour+ to walk to them. Did I mention that this park is big? Before we ever went to the park we had lunch at the cafe. Skip it. They try to be all fancy with their expensive food options and they aren't great. The fish cakes were so over seasoned, it was more seasoning than fish. After we wandered around, we got some icy treats from the small shop on the first floor, much better decision than the cafe! There is also a second car park next to a kids play area and what appeared to be an ice cream shop. So there are lots of options. There is no cost to wander the park. The only cost is the car park cost. It's a confusing system to park. You have to go to one of the machines, put in your license plate number, and pay when you are ready to leave. The park says they have some license plate scanning device. If you don't know your license plate (or "registration" as the Brits say), do what I did and take a picture with your smart phone. It's always with you then :) I highly recommend this park. Wear walking shoes and bring some bottled water. It's a great place to let kids run around and then can even climb on many of the pieces of art (there are some pieces that it's ok!). Carpool because you pay per car, not per person. Don't come here if you have limited time. Make a day of it. Bring a picnic and enjoy.

First-Hand Experience: I love going to watch women's football, and not for the obvious sexist reasons. I like to support it, I genuinely like to watch it sometimes more than the men's game, and this is one of the better and more historic women's teams in the world, which is bizarre since it's such a tiny town and the men of Rovers are not that great. I have seen them play at home twice, and away three times. I'm sure I'll be seeing them again as I go to a lot of women's football. My only complaint is that they don't get bigger crowds, but it's not their fault. They're a wonderful and stand-up team. One of the most famous women's teams in the country and a credit to the Rovers and the city of Doncaster. They play in yellow and are hugely successful. They were formed in 69, as so many of us were. Including Bryan Adams. The Canadian government has apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions. They've won the league twice and the women's FA Cup 6 times. A true legend of the game.

There are lots of differently themed areas - some densely wooded areas, a small pitch and putt golf course, and planted areas. If the weather is good, then spend a relaxing time in the park, followed by an interesting visit to Bowling Hall Museum which is just over the road from the Bowling Hall Road entrance to the park.

The cinema is smaller than your average but has a friendly feel with blankets, really good sound and visibility. Movie choice is good with new films on Fridays and more arty choices on Sunday's. At the end of the showing the old office has a great atmosphere with drinks, candles and a view over the town. Overall I love this place and concept!

St Leonards Farm Park is one of those little beauties. It's an award winning farm in Esholt Village, the original home of the soap Emmerdale. We're talking stunning scenery here and some real fresh air in the lungs. The farm has lots of different animals, some of which you can feed. The play areas are well equipped with rather tempting swing bridges. When the weather is better they have ample areas for picnics and on certain days you'll even be able to have a ride on a tractor. Not sure I'm allowed on them though, rubbish. There are plenty of walks and nature trails and a fun barn and refreshments area too. It ticks all of the boxes and is definitely worth a visit
