Ok so my review is based upon expectations of what a holiday camp should be, I get the impression that some of the other reviewers thought they were staying at the Ritz. I stayed here as a kid about 45 years ago.. and returning, it hasn't changed a bit! :) Well, the feel of it, etc doesn't seemed to have. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Yes, it's rough and ready, the chalets are basic (but function just fine), and the onsite amenities are also 'function vs style' - but that's the ENTIRE point of a holiday camp - Money isn't wasted on frivolities, but the basics are covered and you can have an awesome time for very little money. Our little one loved the shows that the bluecoats and characters put on, the shows for the adults are pretty cheesy. The main problems are the smell in the main hall, think primary school crossed with boy's bedrooms and the overall cleanliness. Alright for a cheap break, but I wouldn't have liked to have paid the full brochure price. read more

Being a HUGE On the Buses fan, we were so excited to visit this place in July. It didn't let us down either. A few things have changed such as the little boating pool is now a go kart track and a few other parts have been updated but on the whole it was like going back in time. The swimming pool is the same minus the diving board, the first aid room is now a bike hire but Blakeys security office and the entrance gates remain the same. The staff were more than happy to talk about the film (the ones that were there during filming that is) and point out where some of the shots took place. The chalet was very clean, although outdated (our bathroom was duck egg blue) but after some of the reviews we had read we were dreading it but we couldn't find fault. The entertainment is great fun for all ages and there is plenty for the kids to do. The bluecoats are great with the kids. We enjoyed it so much we have just booked our next holiday there next year. read more

I've had many a great holiday here with the family. Most recent was July this year. The chalets are very basic but clean. You also need to pay for the electricity which is separate. One word of warning my sofa bed was awful - so myself and my wife spent most of our holiday in separate beds with the kids. There is plenty of entertainment on site along with shops and arcades etc. These arcades can prove very costly. Also the drinks of an evening are very dear. If you like entertainment and want a good seat be sure to get over to the main hall very early. The good seats get taken very quickly. One of my worst memories was hiring the large bike - and having to ride around the camp, in the Summer Sun, with my wife and children. It was so tiring. Memories eh! read more

Wide range of facilities catering for all groups and age rages. Chalets are basic but have all the requirements needed for your stay. Good shop on site along with a restaurant and your fish and chip shop. In close proximity to the beach and the town centre with a golf course nearby. Rhyl is only a 5 minute driveaway along the promenade and the A55 is a short distance away if you wanted to explore any further, Llandudno, Chester, etc. Competative prices. Decent enough swimming pool but again basic. Go Karts, high wire and an adventure playground. read more

We have had a fair few holidays here. Most of which have been a great fun filled time. The Camp is medium sized, Chalets vary on which class you book, last year we had a budget and a classic both of which were clean, with everything we needed for our stay. You have to pay Electric in both these which cost £1 per token which can be bought in the main entertainment complex. Everytime we have been we have been given a booklet of money off vouchers to spend on camp which have come in handy, although not all used. The staff have always been helpful and friendly when booking in and if any problems arise. The Arcade is small, but you can spend a small fortune in there especially if you have kids. There are pleanty of things to do on the site, the swimming pool is only small but clean and well maintained. The onsite shop is well stocked and not too over priced for a holiday camp. The Chip Shop is not very good, and very expensive. The Bars are Clean and well staffed, but can be quite expensive, but if you use the voucher are not so bad. The Beach is a 10 minute walk from the camp. The Entertainment is normaly pretty good, but can sometimes be poor. read more

OMG!! where do i start... the accommodation is scruffy at best with the odd earwig about in the bath room. The main building was dreadful, not cleaned daily it soon got dirty and messy so by the end of the 3 days we were there it was bad... in the entertainment room someone had been sick the evening before and it had not been cleaned up.. rubbish lay everywhere for 3 nights the build up of cups bottles and other rubbish just got worse.. the smell was terrible. Alcohol was cheaper than i expected but i would of rather felt comfortable in a clean area myself but then again if you drink enough you wont see it... food was poor for the money but if its half board then i suppose its good enough.. Like driving onto the set of TV's 'Shameless'. We lasted less than 5 minutes in the room then drove back to reception to hand the keys in and drove out of there as fast as possible. Not an environment I want my wife and two month old son to be in. I'm talking about clientele and buildings. It was meant to be a quick getaway for 3 nights but we found a Premier Inn as it was late when we drove away from Shameless then after a two hour drive the next morning we were back home. We have just come back from here after spending a Sun Bargain Break where you collect the tokens. The price worked out at £60 for 3 of us (including service charge) which is great value. The appartment First impressions are it looks like a run down council estate with concrete steps up to our flat. Front door rattled in the wind so we shoved a carrier bag in it which did the trick! Its spacious and quite clean in the lounge / kitchen, bathroom and 1 bedroom. Sofa bed in the lounge was terrible springs dropping off and bars across your back so not a great nights sleep on here. Table and chairs were fine, cooker and TV dated but worked as was the fridge. Definately no frills kitchen:- no veg knife, no washing up bowl, no toaster, no microwave but OK for a weekend. Bedroom was OK with 2 very narrow 2' wide beds plenty of cupboard and drawer space though. Pillows are so flat you may as well not bother but it was all very clean. Bathroom has no shower or mixer taps so hair washing with a jug - its a hot water tank so not constant hot water. Loads of heaters everywhere so quite cosy really. We were given a card for free electric as we had booked with the Sun Offer which was great. On site Bluecoats very sparce here if you saw 1 you were lucky in the evenings. Much the same at reception although booking in was fast and well staffed. The H2O Zone was a basic swimming pool with showers - see more about this below! Plenty of seating in the bars although some of the seats were ripped and torn but it is end of season. Entertainment varied some good some bad Drinks were extremely expensive and the book of vouchers they give you have so many conditions of use we couldn't use them. We found the chip shop on site good value compared to Bristol prices though and staff were friendly. Shop on site was OK but limited I couldnt buy anything in size 12 - 18 months for a child only nearest size was age 5 - 6! If you have a child under * years there is a huge indoor play area that looks great especially as there is a separate area for under 4s Daughter wanted to go on those hampster ball things in the pool - they run this from 6 - 7pm Nowhere does it tell you that you have to book by 5pm as you have to sign a safety form. No forms were available at reception or at the pool - lifeguards were not interested as were the reception staff so she was not allowed to do it even though there were hardly any bookings and plenty of time. Pool staff just packed up early and went off. We complained and they gave us £20 Pontins pounds to spend in the bars etc. Not great really - very disorganised for something that should be fully booked - thats why it is poorly subscribed as staff dont want to bother or cant access the forms Would we go again - yes Some people we met there paid an extra £89 to upgrade to club class and their appartment was more comfortable Its still only £50 each for 3 nights so good value - better than camping read more

I wouldn't advise anyone to go here we certainly won't again lots of faults in chalet late night/early morning noise beer glasses still lying around on floors by reception when checking out at 10 am (child friendly dont think so) very outdated n dull read more

this is a great holiday camp to take the children ,plenty of fun going on and cartoon charactors ,they always have offers on ,and somtimes give away free holidays on the net.staff are friendly ,appartments are very clean ,they have everything you need on site ,but if you fancy a nice cheap curry they have a one located just off site,you have to give it a try even if its only once.easy to get to and there is the main town just down the road,with morrisons there if you are on a budgit ,and cant afford to eat out . read more

I want to visit pontins in July 2013 with my four kid, but I am really put off with all the negative comments. Can anyone pls be honest and tell me how they really find the place. Because I want the kids to have fun but I also want have something for me and my partner also. Above I will like the chalet to be clean I hate dirt. Not even worth one star!! Had to pay for own electricity, mattresses had massive stains on them, food was mediocre at best. Not friendly for families, the apartments were shabby with a front door that didn't close properly. The microwave was rusty and the room was dirty when we arrived; black marks up the walls and a tonne of dirt underneath the oven. The bath had other peoples hair in when we arrived. We couldn't get to our room for an hour after collection due to 'it not being ready' which once we arrived and saw the state we wondered if that was ready then what was it like before. Would not advise staying here, there is a much nicer place round the corner or a Premier Inn not far. Don't waste your money. read more

just had a weekend break here,never again where do i start, i was given a upper floor chalet sorry i cant think of these has chalets more like maisonettes i have a problem with my knee and did not know that you had to climb concrete steps to the upper decks,so anyone with any disability needs to check on there booking,the accommodation was basic but was at least clean,the sofa was terrible it kept sinking in when you sat on it not comfortable at all but never needed to use it has a bed thank god,it looked worn and uncomfortable just sitting on it, then we noted the tv a old little portable,when we put it on we did not get good reception it was rubbish,oh no,we went to the bathroom not bad but where was the towels oh dear not brought any then we find out you have to hire them ok quick get round to get some towels £5.00 deposit returnable £1.50 a day for towel hire,i know the accommodation was basic but i thought towels has basic then i noted we did not have a microwave and was also told we had to hire that too,also the electric we had to buy in £1.00 tokens how do you estimate what you are going to use i do not know,but if you don,t get enough you could run out,we then visited the pub on site it was shabby and tatty with only one lager on the pumps even though it advertised others these was not on tap with very little selection, when we returned to our accommodation later it became very windy the door was very draughty the wind blew in, not very good if you was paying to heat the place up,the meals however was not too bad the breakfast was nice but the the canteen was very noisy with kids just running a mock which seemed to be a problem everywhere i would have said it was very similar to a works canteen apart from that overall i would never go again they would need to pay me and would not waste my money again read more

i really enjoyed my holiday here so did my chidren this is definatly a family holiday they have got lots of things to do for the kiddies on site. there is 2 parks one for the older children and one for the toddlers. also go karting is on site and some little cars to ride around a track. there is a fish bar which closes too early in the day but its pretty expensive anyway. the amusements are pretty big and clean attached to the amusements is the 2 clubs both have entertainment on everynight. there is also a pub with a pool table inside and they have a karaoke competition going on in there. also an indoor swimming pool which is decent size. to have an inflatable in the swimming pool you have to pay 1 pound which is a joke. there is also a smaller pool for the little uns with a slide and 2 sldes in the big pool. there is a soft play erea for kiddies too with computer consoles. and a mini supermarket for all your essentials its not cheap tho. there is a morrisons a short drive away i recommend u go shopping in there instead of buying food on site. the bluecoats are great with the kids they do entertain ur kiddies. on site is also a launderette and you can hire a family car that you can cycle around the site its fun. the chalets are fine they were clean and decent. not luxery but what do you expect from a cheap holiday. the staff were helpfull and friendly oh and they have got these cartoon charactors that entertain the kids. rhyl is a short drive away from the site and there is things to do down thier too they have a mini fair a few amusements a shopping centre and even a mcdonalds its worth going down there. overall fanatastic cheap fun filled family holiday i will definatly be going back in the summer. read more
