Tested a Fiat Idea 1.4, for nearly £800 year 2004 Had called the guy working there to say we were coming up to look at it.
Nobody around when we arrived but he was working alone and had had to go elsewhere. When he did turn up he wasnt very helpful and kept disapearing. Eventually he came to assist and put a battery charger on the car, saying it had laid idle for 3 weels. We had now been waiting around for nearly an hour and after more fiddling around he let us test drive the car. Car seemed quite good with steering and comfortable to drive, however he warned us that because of lying around it would make some screeches due to dust etc. The car did screech to the extent of making some school girls jump and turn around. I said to my partner, the clutch seems very loose, so we stopped around the corner with the car still running and after testing the clutch it was evident it had handed its notice in a long time ago!!
Called the guy as the car had now given up too and wouldnt restart and he was rude and insulting saying that I had stalled the car......I'm usually a very nice, polite and sociable person but now I didn't feel the need to be, angrily telling him that he had been trying to sell us a car with a knackered clutch, that wasnt ready to be tested - even though I had called to inform him at least 2 hours before.
He came down to charge the battery again, and tried to say the clutch was recently installed. My partner stayed calm and polite (I didn't want to speak to him) and said that we were going to drop the car back and then go. He kept offering to put a new clutch in, but we now just wanted to put the experience in the past. In the end my partner had to tell him straight that we didn't like the car and that I didn't like him so we wouldn't be buying from him!
Didnt expect a new racer car just one that was functioning ......
