This two…read morestory government building in Drakes Branch, incorporated in 1903, is rather stately and certainly eye catching. Inside you'll find a lot of wood paneling, vintage brass mail boxes, and many interesting details, like the iron panels at the top near the ceiling. Another cool feature is the old book of post offices with its yellowed pages that begged to be studied! What I wouldn't give to look up all the small town post offices in VA! Despite its size, this post office offers the basic services, no passport service and processes mail and packages for its approximate 500 residents. This post office has hosted "customer appreciation day" where it opened its doors to the community and served refreshments; how cool is that? Due to flooding, in 2018, this branch temporarily closed, but it's now in full swing! Nearby, keep your eyes peeled for the historical marker which gives a brief history of the significance of the area, and the bright blue water tower reaching toward the sky! This is such a great place to visit if you're a history buff! The hours are M-F 10:00-1:00, 2:00-5:00, Saturday 9:00-1:00. Mail service is sometimes slow here, but hopefully, the townspeople of this little village is blessed with patience.
