This is about my care by Dr. Schaeffer at the Camillus Surgery Center…read more After waking up in debilitating pain, my primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Schaeffer. I was able to get in to see him quickly and he did an evaluation and prescribed me medication which relieved my pain by the next day. I have had 3 appointments with him since and he and his staff have always been excellent with their treatment of me. I highly recommend him as a kind and caring doctor. Vincent Larkin, Syracuse, NY

I am deeply disappointed with the care and compassion shown during my experience at this practice…read more I saw Kristen, NP in the Camillus office. She was dismissive, unprofessional, and unwilling to listen to my concerns regarding further steps for pain management. During my appointment, I was in significant pain and became visibly upset and started to cry. Asking for alternative options to help manage my symptoms because the current treatment plan was not working /not being accepted through my insurance company. Rather than taking the time to listen, discuss possible alternatives, or show any empathy, my concerns were brushed aside. I felt like I was inconvenience, rather than having legitimate medical concerns. What was most upsetting was feeling completely unheard. As someone who has worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, I understand that healthcare providers cannot always give patients the answers they want. However, patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. I repeatedly asked for guidance and other possible options, but no meaningful discussion took place. The only pain management option that was offered to me was opioid medication. When I explained that I did not want to take opioid painkillers and asked about alternative approaches, the Kristen appeared frustrated and upset with me rather than engaging in a constructive discussion about other possible treatments, and stated that she felt that my frustration was a personal attack on her. When I stated multiple times it was not, that I was upset and disheartened on the medical system as a whole. This left me feeling even more dismissed and unsupported during an already difficult situation. After the appointment, my daughter called the office to discuss what had happened and to seek further clarification regarding my concerns. During that conversation, she was told that I had been rude, dismissive, disrespectful, and mean to all of the staff members. That characterization is completely false and does not reflect what occurred during my appointment. While I was emotional because of the severe pain I was experiencing, I did not treat the staff in the manner described. Being accused of behavior that did not occur only added to the distress and frustration caused by this experience. I left the appointment feeling defeated, hopeless, and abandoned by a healthcare system that is supposed to help people when they are most vulnerable. No patient should leave a medical office in tears feeling as though their pain and concerns do not matter. Professionalism, empathy, and communication are essential parts of patient care. Unfortunately, my experience reflected a serious lack of all three. I hope this practice takes patient feedback seriously and works to improve how patients are treated, especially those who are struggling

A friend of mine referred me to Orthopedic and sports acupuncture and I've been going since March. I'm so impressed with Matt's knowledge and expertise and I'm so excited to report that I'm having relief from the pain in my back. Im beginning to garden and starting to walk for exercise. I'm excited to start riding my horses soon without back pain. I still have a way to go but Im so thankful I found orthopedic acupuncture and I highly recommend them!

After meds and bed they prescribed provided little relief, acupuncture was recommended by a family friend. Village Community Acupuncture & Massage Therapy was able to provide immediate relief. Matthew listened, explained the process and discussed the theory. The first treatment provided enough relief to drop the meds. By the third visit I had him working on my neck & shoulder, other areas with minor muscle tightness and he has been very successful. I most appreciate the time they take. Each session we discuss the results of the last treatment. After an initial needling in the effected area they provide distal treatment (arms and legs). They take time, have a pretty good sense of humor and actually want to get it right. The price is more than fair for the extent of the service they provide. I understand each experience is different with acupuncture but I couldn't be more pleased with Village Community Acupuncture & Massage Therapy. I also heard Matthew is a co-presenter for a seminar on treatment for sport related injury. I like it.

I was looking forward to my appointment, to learn his approached to relieve pain without meds. From my first appointment, he listened to my concerns and recommended a treatment that would work. Dr. Chris's, cares about his patients and his main concern, is to alleviate your pain as quickly as possible. I personally feel, if I found a wellness Dr. that took insurance, my relieving of pain would consist of numerous follow-up visits. Truly, the cost would be more in the long run. Rosemary
