But you need to understand that a substantial amount of his artwork is made up of his consumables, which consists largely of his thousands of cigarette boxes, alcohol bottles, containers, spray cans, hot glue etc. Basically, it's what he doesn't throw away and materials he uses to create the artwork itself. But clearly a lot of imagination and time goes into creating his pieces. His style seems to have evolved, as it seems his earlier work used more modern materials such as plexiglass and metal display cases. He supposedly has another location with more of his earlier work which may have miniature models and other large scale displays. Go if you want to see unusual uses of everyday items. But this place needs a little cleaning as we ran into a few webs when going into certain corners of his basement looking at pieces. But John and especially his wife are enjoyable to talk to.

I was able to learn how Flushing and the neighborhood that the house was in was apart of Long Island, before it came to be apart of Queens. The tour guide was really friendly and informative, and the tour of the house was around 45 minutes. The tour takes us through the rooms and ends with the backyard which has the garden, bird sanctuary, and little fish pond! I definitely recommend visiting this amazing museum, it's so pretty and filled with interesting history and facts about Queens. I also like how this house was about a middle class family. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from Main Street and open Wednesdays and Sundays from 1-4. The tickets for this are also suggested donation, so you can donate however much you like!

The kitchen and bathrooms were a real time-capsule blast! And the office, in particular, was extra special for me. Seeing Louie's many reel-to-reels and his demo library, where so much of his world-loved magic came to life, was incredible. My father was an opera singer during that same era, even a bit earlier, and Pop's equipment and effects were an exact replica! And God bless Lucille Wilson, Louie's last wife. Talk about being ahead of her time! Ms. Wilson singlehandedly loved this man enough to recognize the enormous impact Louie had made--and how vital it was to preserve his home, his music, and his legacy. She fought to have it recognized for its landmark and historical significance. She was a dynamo in her own right, with a deep understanding of "things to come." She was also a community activist--and an absolute "wallpaper" junkie... You'll see exactly what I mean the moment you cross the doorway into this unique, beautifully preserved bygone era. In 2019, the stalls raised their maximum price to $6, which remains the same today in 2026. From a recent 2026 Gothamist article though, 2026 will be the last year for the $6 cap so 2027 may potentially be increased to $7 cap or be eliminated. that is in the air right now. Despite the pricing/portion value, QNM is great way to try different cuisines all in one place. its a great way for growing families to chill in an open grassy area that has music and pop-ups at times (ie: HK VITA brand lemon tea had a pop up there). Parking is crowded so its best to walk from 7 train-111th st hall of science train stop or uber if you live close by. The Queens Museum is in the same park that the World's Fair was held in both 1939 and 1964. The park is fantastic and it's fun to take photos in front of the Unisphere. The entry fee for the museum is optional but I paid the suggested $8 per head and thought it was worth it - the museum does not have a lot of exhibits but what is there is super interesting! The main attraction is the giant Panorama of the City of New York. It's a continually updated map of the city with buildings and even tiny scale model airplanes taking off and landing. The lights in the room brighten and dim to simulate day and night, and during nighttime, the lights in the buildings come on. Only Far Rockaway was left off the map due to space considerations. I am a map geek, so this was heaven for me! They also have a room with memorabilia from both World's Fairs, and map of the 1964 World's Fair that is similar to, but smaller than, the Panorama. There is a great exhibition on Tiffany glass lamps. Not only was the display of lamps absolutely gorgeous, the information about the history of the glassworks in Queens (a factoid I was not aware of!) and the process for making the glass was fascinating. Less interesting to me, but fascinating to Larry, was the relief map of the NYC water supply system. The Queens Museum is absolutely a great stop if you are in the area!
