Here is an example of it; after I wrote my review here is how (text messages) he approached me. Attacking a customers character is never good First off I have to say the work and speed that their crew delivered was great. We love everything that they did for us. We had a number of requests for them to: 1. Build a deck near our pool with cover 2. Replace our fencing to hide the pool equipment 3. New fence towards the back of our property In the photos you can see how great it turned out. Now where they lost their stars is in communication and dealing with conflicts. 1st issue - We had a dumpster provided that they subcontracted and had a number of issues. James gave my husband the phone number to contact dumpster company and "deal with the issue". As a customer all issues pertaining to a subcontractor that THEY hired should have been handled by them and not us. 2nd issue - some of the fence posts they installed warped and we asked for them to come repair. We had to text and call about 10 times! We were given dates that someone would show up and then no one showed up and no communication about 5 times. Continuous calling and text had to occur with the same result. Then random out of the blue one day someone showed up to fix the fence and once again no communication to inform us they were coming nor after to check how the repair went. This process was extremely frustrating and clear that dealing with conflicts isn't their forte.

Selecting a company to work a big project is no small feat. Replacing a fence may not be the…read morebiggest project, but there are so many considerations, especially when you share a fence with three neighbors. Coordination was very important. So I sent out my project request through Yelp and this company was one of the responses I received. Scheduling a visit proved to be challenging. Their AI bot was responding to the point that I was frustrated. Eventually I answered that their scheduling didn't work for me. At that point, a person intervened and told me the AI bot took over and gave me a date that worked for me. She said a confirmation was forthcoming. When I responded ok, the bot seemed to take over again. I believe the date and time I was given was a Thursday at noon because the Wednesday at noon was unavailable. But I didn't receive a confirmation. So Wednesday comes around and I'm not expecting anyone. I'm working from home in pajamas when the doorbell rings. I scramble to get dressed when I realize this person isn't leaving and might be one of the companies I scheduled. I came outside and received a friendly greetings. I apologized for being delayed and explained that I was expecting them the next day. I opened up the gate and we spent about ten minutes going over what I wanted. I was advised that I would be sent an estimate probably the following day. I never received an estimate. The writing was all over the walls. The people I dealt with were nice, but the situation with the AI bot and not getting a quote back, unfortunately didn't inspire confidence.

He gave me an up-front estimate, which seemed fair. He asked for a 50% deposit, which (based on past reviews) also seemed fair. The first workday, he arrived then left because of weather: it was a bit misty but not actively raining. Each day, he arrived at around 11 am. I told him up front that our HOA is very strict and that the lights must be professionally installed. Halfway through, there were cords dangling making it appear unsightly. I told him again that we want all cords hidden. At the end of it all, there were still cords dangling in several places, easily visible a casual observer. Additionally, while Govee recommends their lights be 2 to 4 inches from the wall, he installed them at least 10 inches from the wall, making for a muted and dimmed light show. In the end, we were very disappointed and had to hire a second contractor to uninstall his work and then reinstall the lights correctly. If you need Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights installed, look elsewhere. I cannot speak to any other work he John does.

This added significantly to their time. I had a good time visiting with them, and we laughed about our goofy dogs. They cleaned up their mess and were respectful of my property while here. I do not hesitate to recommend John. I have two happy little dogs who have already figured out how to use the door!

If after coming out they decided that they didn't want my business I would've thought the professional thing to do would to just say thanks for the inquiry but this is a project we're not able or willing to do. I've also noticed that it seems when someone gives him a negative review he can't find their information. Just based on his responses if I were a customer considering this company I'd reconsider after looking at his responses doesn't take responsibility for his actions.

***PLEASE READ BEFORE HIRING FREEDOM***We hired Freedom Outdoor Living to expand our back patio and…read morebuild a pergola. While there are aspects of the project that we feel they did a good job with (mainly the pergola), we feel it's important to warn other potential customers of the issues we have experienced working with them. First, this company uses subcontractors, and unfortunately, many times they didn't show up at all to perform the work they were scheduled to do or performed the work incorrectly. This led to significant delays throughout the project and was extremely frustrating. It put us in the position of constantly following up to ensure the work was done and done right. As an example, the concrete steps we asked them to build were initially very narrow and a safety hazard. We asked them to correct that. Our pergola was not built correctly according to the design, and we had to ask them to correct that as well. The railings around the patio were installed incorrectly, and again we had to ask them to correct this. We understood that the stain of the existing patio may never perfectly match the new concrete patio but the colors are not even close. Dominic was our main point of contact with Freedom and was apologetic every time this occurred (which was frequently) and let us know the excuses the subcontractors provided. They did make these corrections, but what I'm not sure Dominic (and Allen) with Freedom understand is that this is absolutely a reflection on their company when they hire subcontractors that either unreliable, incompetent, just "don't care," or all of the above. Unfortunately, they had already stained our concrete steps so when they did fix the prior sloppy work, the stain didn't match the remaining patio. The biggest complaint that we have with them is that once the entire project was complete (in April 2023), within a month the concrete overlay that they had put on our patio to match the extended patio we built (which it never did) started to deteriorate in a section of the patio. (We now know from speaking with others who have knowledge of concrete work that this overlay was not installed correctly from the beginning). We immediately informed them of the issue and 3 months later (after repeated texts) they repaired the section of damaged overlay without restaining. In other words, we had a large white patch of concrete on our brown stained patio for another 2-3 months. Again, after repeated texts and excuses, they finally let us know they would be sending someone out to stain the patched area of concrete. We had asked them to ensure that the patched area matched the remaining concrete and asked them to fix the issue with the entire patio being multiple different shades of stain. To this they asked us to either pay $3800 to correct the poor staining all done on our patio by THEIR contractors or only stain the patched area of concrete for free. We absolutely refuse to pay Freedom more for THEIR work that was not done right to begin with and agreed for them to only stain the patched area (with the expectation that it would, at least, match the existing patio). Of course, it doesn't and looks awful. I included a picture here so you can see how bad this looks. We are now left with a concrete patio that is 4 different shades of brown and is an eyesore. We have texted Allen and Dominic multiple times to ask that they do the right thing and restain our patio so that all of THEIR work is one color. What is very disappointing is they are not even responding to us anymore. There is no sense of wanting to do the right thing for their customer or even taking pride in the work they are doing. It is very disheartening that after trying to be understanding with them throughout all the delays/failures in the project once they got their money they really didn't seem to care. Allan/Dominic/Freedom Outdoor Living, if you are reading this and would like to correct your staining work on our patio and make this right, we would gladly welcome it and be happy to amend this review.
