I threw an all-dude baby shower for one of my coworkers. As the only woman in the shop, I wanted some decorations that were not the typical baby shower decorations. I thought it would be funny to have tattooed baby dolls who looked like the dad-to-be, so I commissioned the apprentice to draw tattoos on two dolls to be the centerpiece for the table. He ended up actually tattooing the dolls rather than drawing on them because it looked more realistic and had more detail. The tattooed babies were so well-done that the dad-to-be loved them more than any of the other gifts he received that day! I would highly recommend this studio. They are truly talented. read more

I received the worst tattoo ever here. The artist, if you can call him that ( oven ) didn't listen to anything I requested. Basically did a copy and paste of a picture I bought in even though I only wanted part of it done. Did it all in black shading though I wanted color even after being told that repeatedly and he agreed to do it that way. By the time I realized it was too late and now I'm going to need a full cover up on my chest. Overly expensive and my requests were totally ignored. I wouldn't recommend unless you want whatever they feel like sticking you with. The rest of the staff is friendly even if they don't listen to the customer. read more

I went like a couple months back I think December 10th , best experience ever , my first time getting a tattoo and the girl that did it was so gentle and very patient after asking her to change the placement multiple times,It did not hurt at all and she was very quick only took an hour ,and the healing only took like 4 days to stop hurting when I touched it , I recommend 100% read more

My boyfriend and I went to get tattoos at this shop Needless to say we will never Go back. I feel they catered to me as a female yet didn't invest the same time into my boyfriend's tattoo. my Boyfriend's tattoo Was not as detailed as mine, we got matching tattoos. as it began to heal and the scabs fell off, the color was very faint if any at all. We feel the amount of money we paid was unfair, for a job poorly done. We definitely will not be returning nor will we recommend anyone to this shop. read more

I went to por Vida tattoo in September and very briefly talked with a tattoo artist who handed me over to Brandon who said there was availability in November around my birthday and he would get back to me. Brandon never got back to me. November rolls around and I reached out and didn't hear anything and then I reached out again in December and heard back from him. He said he would reach out in January and never did and I am just so done! Very very very unprofessional! I don't think they really care since they're making so much money charging $200 an hour. I only left a one star because I can't leave a zero star. I got scarred very bad by the tattooer. Can't say it was a tattoo artist because I don't believe a tattoo artist would scar me. My tattoo hurt for freaking weeks. It was swollen and bruised. I couldn't walk or put any pressure on it. When I would press my fingers to the area around it my skin pitted. I'll have to upload a picture. You know who you are please look at YouTube videos on "how not to scar customers". I send por vida tattoo pictures but they never replied. So sad. My girls tattoo is now a scar also. We don't want our money back. We want the tattooer to get more training. We've lost count of all our tattoos, meaning we aren't new to getting tattoos. But these suckers were painful, now just now our tattoos are going thru the itchy phase. 2 weeks later wow. Please learn to tattoo. Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about everyone at the shop. Avoid. The most arrogant and terrible customer service I have ever received at a tattoo parlor. Shops should value all customers (regardless of appearance) and all jobs the same. Over 40 min late to appointment is just one of the many things that made my experience terrible. It is clear they have huge egos and don't care about people or their customer service. If you're planning on getting a tattoo in a different language don't. You would expect an artist to follow a stencil but this was not the case. Dots missing and lines crooked and it literally turned the couple lines asked for to nonsense. The work was done by David/Oven? . If I can rate with a negative review I would. I made my appointment with "MONCHO" two months in advance and it's been the most unprofessional experience I've ever had ! Never reached out to me after booking my appointment until the day before I reached out to confirm I didn't get an answer till the morning of my appointment that he was "out of town" and never heard anything since. It's very unprofessional and f**k up that someone would treat a client that way. Not sure why anyone would want someone so unprofessional working at a shop. I love this place! I've waited 7 long years to get my 2nd tattoo. I know, I know...way too long. When my mama passed unexpectedly 3 years ago, I knew that I was going to get another tattoo in her honor - I just didn't know of what and where. Slowly but surely I decided on the idea and the spot. I walked in without an appointment - not recommended, the shop resident artists are well-known in the tattoo community and are in demand. Like I said, no appointment and a Friday afternoon - my chances of getting in were not great but the front office peeps were so helpful. They took the time to ask around if anyone had time to do a pieces. I was in luck - they had a local visiting artists that was able to fit me in. Chris was...is amazing. He did my Tree of Life piece on my right forearm beautifully. He was so easy to get along with and had nothing but glowing things to say about the shop and the personnel. The tattoo went so well and the time flew by - he let me know that he was going to be back in October and if I needed a touch up on certain part of skin, he'd happily fit me. True to his word, he texted me when he landed back in town and got me in for that touch up and additional small tattoo. The only downfall of this whole experience is that Chris is moving to California. However, something tells me that I'll be back here for my next piece with one of the other amazing artists. read more

I am only familiar with one artist from Por Vida who is Carlos aka "Went" I have been going to him for years now and he is very professional, clean, and a great artist. He does a lot of traditional Asian tattooing. If this is what you are looking for he is definitely worth checking out! read more

From the outside, it's hard to know what to expect at Por Vida. It's a very unassuming, blink and you'll miss it shop on Central in the Huning Highlands area, right next to the Route 66 Hostel. Inside, it's neat, clean and, like a lot of tattoo shops, a little quirky. The walls are loaded with a lot of traditional and old school flash from all over as well as renderings from the resident artists. Don't worry if these aren't your thing; the talented artists at Por Vida are masters of multiple styles. I recently completed a partial black and white sleeve with pops of color, created and executed with precision by Bale Sisneros and could not be happier. Fine artist, perfectionist, world traveler, and one charming, smart cookie, Bale is. He and the rest of the crew, including receptionist and organizer extraordinaire Amanda, make everyone feel welcome at Por Vida and the pride they take in their work is evident in multiple ways. I admit, when Por Vida was recommended to me I was skeptical because this is a very 'Burque tattoo parlor and I'm an old lady transplanted in ABQ from back east. Yeah, well, misconceptions and all doubts shattered ... I adore Bale and the crew, feel comfortable and confident having work done at Por Vida, and truly cannot recommend this shop enough. Por Vida put nose rings in my forward helix piercing which were also the wrong gauge. On top of this, they got infected shortly after despite my diligent cleaning. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Also they do not card minors, I know several girls who went and got pierced underage without being carded. read more
