Why is this a feature? Well this is a great place to come and teach your toddler to look at trains, what they are, how they operate and what happens around a railway crossing where the big flashing gantry comes down to stop the cars from going. The train is very visible from the playground. Also there's a theme in the playground that runs along the train line (pun intended) so that you can play on a story book type train that is stationary and looks like it couldn't really hurt a fly, and still observe the real train coming and going. This is a NO DOG playground - so leave the dog at home this time, because dogs don't understand trains or toddlers quite the way we'd like them to, and they require special instructions; so do not bring the dog. I repeat, do not bring the dog. I think it is brilliant because the train and train line is a dangerous thing for kids. It is such a fascinating place and seems perfect to walk along. There was even children recently killed on a train line, so it is worth thinking about an outing or two, on the train to this very playground for a picnic and a watch. What do trains do? They stop at the station, people get on, and then they chuff off. The cars stop for them and people stop for them. There are even elements of trains in the seating under the shady trees so you can point to something and say "That's a bit of the track that the trains run on," so you have a lot to learn as a grown up and as a kid in this very special playground. Yay. Or rather I should say "Whoohoo!"

This playground is split into a large section with a nice shady seating area, and then a smaller section for toddlers, complete with train to climb on. They have a very fun see saw to play on here as well as a basketball hoop and a barbecue area and plenty of space. Unfortunately there's no toilets here, so you have to go down to the shops if your little one wants to go. Otherwise a great place to relax and have a swing and watch the Choo Choo Trains go chugging by.

This playground is fully fenced and the entire space has a rubber flooring. There is a drinking fountain, tap, table/chair and BBQ all within close proximity to the playground. Unfortunately there isn't any shelter/shade over the table but with the massive gum trees in the park, there is some shade depending on the time you visit. This is a great place to come but for me, it slightly falls short of my 'destination' playground status. Maybe I'm having a bad day lol. There's a wide area and plenty of space to play with balls. There's your usual playground. There's a barbecue. And that's about it. But there's nothing more you need. Of course, there could, perhaps, be a little more shade. We're in Australia, after all, not Siberia. But, regardless, this is a nice park. If it's your local park, it's worth being proud of.

Hidden gem for parents…read more My employer held its family Christmas BBQ here last year. The highlight was watching a small kid try to operate a big water fountain. To reach the spout he had to let go of the button. He was pretty quick! ...but not quick enough for a drink. Solid entertainment, until mum came to the rescue and held the button. Lots of positives: Being out front of the Aquatic Centre ensures adequate parking, clean toilets and added safety. Soft mats or sand surround all equipment, with a fence around the lot to keep 'em caged in. Outside of the fencing are two BBQ's, and of course there's the Aquatic Centre kiosk for treats. Don't forget hats and sunscreen, as the equipment's not shaded; however, there is a gazebo. Slides, forts, a small flying fox, a wheel chair swing (requires key from Aquatic Centre during opening hours) a four way swing and a maze. Your kids will love it. The little shits won't want to leave.

This is an awesome place for Primary School aged children as well as younger children. There's a lot of rubber flooring, drinking fountain and toilets aren't too far away. There wasn't a great deal of shade over the playground or for those of us parents who sat on the lawn. There is a sheltered seating area closer to the playground (not that anything is too far from anything else) but with the number of families that come through this playground in a day, you would need to get in early for a table. The whole playground is fenced and there are BBQs and table/chairs under the pine trees just outside the fence also. There is just SO much here for children to play on. Having lived in Adelaide all of my life, it is rare for me to come across a spot that I quite…read moreliterally had no idea existed. Last year I has one such experience, and I struck GOLD! The Jack Watckins Reserve on Churchill Road is really easy to miss. It's entrance is nestled between the railway yard (used mainly for storing the pylons for wind-farm windmills) and some light industry, but once you enter the car park you see rolling hills (Julie Andrews starts singing), a picturesque gum tree lined path, play equipment, circuit training equipment and even a bbq area! The area is perfect for a family picnic, with plenty to keep the junior kiddiwinkles entertained plus a basketball half court for the older sporties and plenty of room for a dob of the pigskin should the testosterone levels reach an appropriate level! Although the park has many fun options for all, it also has a serious side being dedicated to those who lost their lives due to Asbestos diseases as a result of working on the old Islington Railway line. There are many stories and writings located in the park and along the pathway that are definately worth the time to read. Even if you don't take the clan for a bbq day there, it is worth the time to swing by and see some of what Adelaide has hidden if you look hard enough. P.S. The Park is open until 8:00pm during daylight savings.

This is a great community playground. I have met most of my friends here, supervising our children…read moreon the playground or taking the dog for it's evening run. Whenever I go to the reserve there is a friendly face I can stop and have a chat with. The playground is great for younger children, with swings, slides, monkey bars and climbing frames. Although no shade over it, so it does get hot in summer. The grass space is lovely and I am very glad that the council have started watering the grass through summer, I still remember the dust bowl conditions of a few summers ago. It is very friendly for dog owners. The BBQs are great, with plenty of space for a few groups at once. For older children who have outgrown the playground it would be great to see an upgrade to the basketball 'court', or some soccer goals, or netball rings.

It has a nice large grassed area to play on with plenty of width and length for cricket, baseball or footy. There's a pathway running through the middle and plenty of seating all around with a lot placed beneath the shade of tree's - quite smart by the council! Even better it has a fully equipped, quite extensive playground equipment area and it is fully fenced all the way around it! It looks fantastic and is really quite inviting with it's bright colours against the black fence. As per all the playgrounds and reserves in this area it is well looked after by the council. This is surprisingly a much nicer area to playground visit than somewhere like Ingle Farm, where everything looks dead.

The only thing missing here is toilets!…read more Apart from that it is a nice new playground in the midst of a lovely neighbourhood. The park area itself is nice and green with plenty of room for safe ball or frisbee play. There's seating at an undercover area. A BBQ and water fountain. The play equipment is in full sun so take hats and sunscreen. There is plenty of shade to picnic under around the outside of the park.

This reserve houses the Kilburn Sports and Community Club building as well as a large oval, cricket…read morenets, basketball, netball and tennis courts (including tennis club), 2 separate playgrounds, water fountains AND TOILETS! Mind you the toilets don't earn them an extra star. I'd hate to come here and have to use them if anyone else was around, and it looks like the kind of place that would get busy some days. The toilet doors are about as high at the bottom as the toilet seat is. Scary really! And they have that terrible little sheets of rock hard toilet paper. But toilets that could do with a little work are better than no toilets. There's plenty of parking but I could see that getting really busy some days too. There was a BBQ but am sure they also would have facilities for food available inside the clubrooms should there be an event on like football. If not then cook up some snags or take a picnic. There's plenty of seating and shady area's.
