Do not stay here. They have bed bugs. See this pic of the bites on my foot. I've stayed in places in many poor, developing countries that have been better than this.

Our stay at Sand Rose Beach Resort was just okay overall. We have stayed here for several years…read moremainly because of the location. It was great when it was La Quinta. The hotel is right on the beach, situated between Clayton's Beach Bar & Event Venue and Barry's International. It is also within walking distance to the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary and Sea Turtle, Inc. The hotel also offers a great free breakfast, and the staff is always super friendly. The pool was not that great for lounging around. Our room had a very strong mouthwash-like smell. The room itself was clean, although the baseboards needed a serious cleaning. The overpowering minty odor was noticeable every time we walked in, and there was also a faint sewer smell on and off throughout the hotel and in our room. We experienced similar odor issues last year as well, except then it smelled more like a strong cleaning product similar to Fabuloso. In addition, our key cards had to be rekeyed, and several other guests seemed to be having the same issue. Also, if you are staying above the first floor, be prepared for a very slow elevator. Overall, we enjoyed the location and friendly staff, but with the recurring odor issues, the pool area, and the maintenance inconveniences, we are not sure if we will stay there again.

Their food…read morehas always been really good and in true God Bless America style, the portions are gigantic and cheap as hell. Things that stick out as extra special: 50 cent margaritas from 11 - 7 pm day $1 bloody marys from 11-7 pm every day best iced tea ever huge diet cokes blackened shrimp salad blackened fish tacos anything fried super yummy hamburger fajita con todo taco breakfast con todo taco The atmosphere is Port Isabel chic. Paintings of gulls, caricatures and "Brittany's Gallery," line the walls. There's lots of teal but you're not going for the decor. You should be there for the tacos filled with (get this!) bacon, ham, egg, beans, cheese, tomatoes, green peppers, egg, onions, sausage all wrapped in at least an 18 inch tortilla. See my pic... it's as long as my forearm and twice as wide. Long story, even longer: It's unassuming, maybe even a little sketchy. But the thing you can count on here is that it's gonna fill you up and never let you down.

Great stay at the SPI location!…read more Friendly staff! Loved the entire vibe. Good size Room and very clean Super family friendly I would definitely stay here again. **The hotel does offer a military/first responder discount **

We drove down from San Antonio for what was supposed to be a special weekend trip, but our…read moreexperience at Margaritaville was incredibly disappointing. This trip was on our bucket list because we had heard so many great things, but the reality did not live up to the brand's name. The Check-In Disaster Before booking, I contacted the resort to request an early check-in since we were driving from far out of town for just a one-night stay. I was told, "Rest assured, early check-in is available for a fee," which I gladly agreed to. We arrived on Saturday around 1:00 PM, and were given a key to the "last available room." When we walked into the room, there was a naked man inside. Shocked, we went straight back to the front desk. Instead of an apology, the clerk gave me an attitude and snapped that check-in wasn't until 4:00 PM. I explained that we had a pre-approved early check-in so we could change and enjoy the pool and beach, but she simply told us no rooms were available because they had given them to other guests first. Broken Promises & Poor Amenities While we were waiting at the resort restaurant to grab a bite to eat, a manager called to let us know a room was ready. To make up for the naked stranger incident, he promised us a free dinner. Unfortunately, that free dinner never happened--it was an empty promise. When we finally got into a room, it was sufficient, but the rest of the property was highly underwhelming: The Hotel Cleanliness: The entire property was very dirty. The bathrooms looked like they hadn't been deep-cleaned in ages. The Atmosphere & Drinks: The pools were overrun with kids who showed zero respect for older guests, and the drinks at the bar were sub-par. The EV Charger Situation: No one polices the EV charging stations. Despite clear signs stating "No Overnight Parking," people leave their cars parked there indefinitely, completely blocking anyone else from having the opportunity to charge their vehicles. Final Verdict We will never return to this location. Aside from our terrible customer service experience, South Padre Island is just too far of a drive from San Antonio for what you actually get. If you want a beach weekend, you are much better off driving to Galveston. You will get the exact same environment, but with far more options and better service.

We are only one night into what was supposed to be a relaxing resort stay, and it has already been…read moreone of the most frustrating hotel experiences we've ever had. From the moment we checked into our room, there were multiple leaks coming from the ceiling while we checked in and the ceiling of the elevators, creating an unacceptable and uncomfortable environment. To make matters worse, both the shower and sink water smelled strongly of sewage, making basic hygiene unpleasant and concerning. No one was able to shower, brush their teeth or even drink water. We were patient and understanding, giving the hotel ample opportunity to address the issues. They sent a random maintenance man to come "clean the drains" and acted dismissive and bothered by our request. By 10:00 AM, after the problems persisted, we requested a room change. Instead of taking immediate action, we were repeatedly told someone would call us back with an update. Those calls never came. We were forced to continuously follow up ourselves just to get information. By 4pm, they FINALLY told us that our room would be ready within 15 minutes. The replacement room is also a disappointment. We paid extra for a larger room with a specific view and bathtubs, yet the room we were moved to is noticeably smaller and does not match what we originally purchased. We essentially paid a premium for accommodations we no longer have. The customer service throughout this experience has been shockingly poor. After finally arranging a room transfer, the front desk informed us we had one hour to vacate our original room. Then, with ten minutes still remaining before that deadline, we were threatened that the transfer would be canceled because we were "not moving quickly enough." The complete lack of empathy, professionalism, and basic courtesy was astounding. So we were allowed to wait all day for them to rectify the situation but we only had less than an hour at ANY given time to get out when it best suited them? Not to mention, the workers walked into our room without knocking and walked in on us changing and gathering our belongings which is a huge violation. What makes this even more disappointing is that our group has provided this property with multiple room bookings and approximately 10 guests during our stays. Despite being loyal customers and remaining respectful throughout this ordeal, we were treated as though our concerns were an inconvenience. Between the leaking ceilings, sewage-smelling water, unexplained extra charges at the pool bar, failure to communicate, downgrade in accommodations, and hostile customer service, this resort has demonstrated a complete disregard for guest satisfaction. We will not be returning, and based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property to anyone. There are far too many resorts that value their guests to spend your money at one that clearly does not. What's ironic is that this place has so much potential of being amazing. Most of the staff is great, but solely MANAGEMENT needs a refresher on what the hospitality business entails. Especially Imelda.

The Palms Resort was good to my daughters and me from May 28-30, 2025…read more We had room #216 which was minimally decorated with geo shapes and some beachy items. Everything from the pull-out bed in the couch, to the the kitchenette, the queen bed, and the very small bathroom area was clean. Our Beachfront Queen Suite room for 1 adult and 2 children came out to $526.52. PROS The views of the Gulf, the friendly staff, the short walks to the beach, a cafe with a full bar downstairs that offers all three meals, and the existence of an outdoor pool were my favorite things. The overall property was clean and trash-free. No rowdy neighbors. It was peaceful both nights even with the restaurant directly below us. I was able to back my Jeep into the same parking spot each time even when the cafe was packed. CONS Our door did not possess the tight-fitting seal I wish it had. Ants on the balcony, crawling up the main entry door. Water bugs in the bathroom on the second night. Pool filters were not working. Worn-out boardwalk and decks. The place could use some maintenance and fixing up and bug control, but overall I was happy and felt safe. My girls were happy.
