It was nice to see showers and dog washing stations, but the lower ones weren't working, and the main showers only work if you keep pressing. The only bathrooms were portables. It's a long walk to the off leash section, so if you want more room to yourself, you have to go farther. The beach was shallow enough for a long ways. The seaweed closer to the parking lot side of the beach seems to be wasting much of the shoreline, unless it's always like that. There were multiple dry sheets of seaweed throughout the sandy parts, but they can be avoided since the beach front is so vast.

They start off with a half hour introduction that includes each of their backgrounds regarding kayaking experience and some of the knowledge they have gained that pertains to the kayaking tour. Then they give a brief lesson about the bioluminescent plankton, then the safety talk. By the end of the talk you can tell how much they all love what they do and how committed they are to making sure you are safe and that you have a wonderful experience. The kayaking was easy, nothing strenuous, making it easy to watch the bioluminescence. And the bioluminescence was absolutely magical! They look like fireflies in the water! You can light them up with your paddle or even your hands. If you stir the water and scoop it up you can even get some lit-up plankton in your hand.. I would highly recommend Olympic Outdoor Center for this tour and we plan on returning again!

The retreat house itself is perfect for those doing meditation and Buddhist practices. Every day I can walk in the woods, to the pond, and visit all the special places here, like the driftwood ley line sculpture or the fen pond. Every year things are a little different and there are new things to see and explore in addition to visiting "old friends" like the various stone circles. You can also come just for a brief walk or long walk, there are multiple parking lots. I recommend a change of shoes and socks if your footwear is not water proof.

It's only $7 to spend as much daylight as you want while there. You can power walk your way through, but you'll miss the nature and time for self-reflection and teachable moments. Decide why you are going there, even if it is your first exploration. You could spend a whole day by the water writing, drawing, and doing things that fill your soul. Plan to do that. If you have younglings, decide what teaching about Nature you'd like to do. The trails are natural, and this is a place to take it slow for those with mobility challenges. I strongly suggest developing a theme of why you are going and using that as a guideline for a great day. There are porta potties by the parking sites. Bring your water and snacks if you must, but mind the wildlife who get sick from your leaving. A rule of thumb is to take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.

The hike started out quite steeply via switchbacks but thankfully was in the shade, and the switchbacks flattened out a bit after the tree cover faded. Took almost two hours to the top, about an hour and a half down. The time availability, Golden Hour Tour discount, and Anacortes departure allowed us to narrow our decision. We were very pleased with our three our tour. However, it did not seem like it would work well for beginners as basic skills were needed to paddle and navigate. I never quite got comfortable with the peddles for turning and would have had them a little lower as my feet slipped off a couple times. I could not bend my knees enough to reconnect the peddles for turning on my own. Our guide assisted me which held up the tour though. We were in a tandem which worked well for us as my husband was recovering from surgery. We were covered with a skirt to keep us dry for the most part. Some water did leech in to wet our bathing suit bottoms so we were glad we brought a dry change of clothes at the end. We saw eagles, seals, jumping fish, and other birds. Whales do not come in this close to the main land so we had no expectation. The water was like glass in parts, slightly turbulent in others, and the island shores simply serene. If you stuck close to the guide, he was very knowledgeable.
