Built under the Emperor Honorius in the early 5th century, the Porta Pinciana is a monumental gate in the Aurelian Walls, located at the top of the famous Via Veneto just south of Villa Borghese in Rome during our visit last September.
Its present name derives from the gens Pincia, who in the 4th century owned the hill on whose steep slopes the gate and the walls were built. For 1,800-year-old defenses, they are still in pretty good condition, and it is impressive how much is left.
They are majestic, beautiful, impressive, and certainly deserve attention. read more
