This is one of those places that relies on returning customers and word-of-mouth, which is why they're one of those local suppliers that have a real focus on customer service (see my Gibson's Butchers and Direct Furniture reviews). For being a small independent retailer, they seem to be able to keep their prices quite reasonable. I was just in to get a mat, but they have carousels of carpet samples as well as different types of wooden flooring on display, and they have another area for floor and wall tiles. The staff were very friendly - down to earth but professional.

It's rare for me to be complimentary but honestly the sad reflection is that more and more these skills are either lacking or not there at all in retail and when you are met with this great service level it jolts you to how it used to be. It's an outlet so they don't deliver which is a real bummer especially in our case when we decided to tile a kitchen floor - we thought 60 square metres would do but had to return for a few more metres - we ended up having to transport a couple of ton including 16 bags of adhesive and bags of grout. Being an outlet it's meant to be lower price but we didn't find it much lower than other places locally that do deliver but it was the server that brought us back to here. We've been in here about 5 times to get various extra stuff as the tilers needed such stuff as plastic levelling spacers to lay the floor and at £50 for £1 worth of plastic and £16 each for strips of aluminium (and it's not one or two it's 20) you know your being robbed blind. Given that they ain't much cheaper than the competition it's time to offer delivery.

The outcome was the worst job I have ever seen in my life , poor work , in a hurry , back door not fitted correctly . large holes left in plaster work . In short , so bad , that the fitters were all given their marching orders ! Apparently they had provided poor work in other peoples homes also. So after sending out fitters with questionable ability and expertise ,who left my home in a terrible state they did not even sort the mess out , they did promise to send someone out but after waiting several days ended up having get it done myself. I feel sick when I seen it , they also promised to come out after the job was finished to check the quality and address any problems before I would sign off for completing the payment . Instead they fitters got me to sign a form for what i thought was for paying them the cash for the job. The piece of paper was folded in 2 so I did not see the heading Satisfaction Note . He had them laid in about 30 minutes leaving little to no mess. Norman was great personally, really chatty, friendly and knowledgable about his job. They knew more about the bits we needed than we did, which is no real surprise, but their ability to find washers of a particular thickness and size among the myriad boxes of bits over a few floors is remarkable. One guy consulted another guy who knew exactly what we needed and exactly where to find the stuff. It was clear that nothing was too much trouble for them and we were leaving just at closing time with everything we needed. Here at GFS, the guy actually KNOWS about floors, he can work out how much you need to damn near perfect quantity, and will not bullshit you into buying a bunch of crap you don't need. We sent a message asking why the girls weren't here and we got no reply on messenger or via text. Very unprofessional and rude after having business for so long. No reason to what happened. So unexpected and sudden. A message would suffice instead of ignoring all the messages rudely.
