Accommodations vary, some quite appropriate, others basic. Outhouses substandard. Dinners generally good. Price reasonable. Proprietors a little rough around the edges, but again this is a hunting camp and I am a pre-political correctness type guy, so I can deal with it. No longer patronize the operation but if you would like to be in prime grouse habitat at a reasonable price, worth considering.

Aroostook Wildlife Refuge... I been looking at the site for…read morea while. Being military brat myself, and knowing this is a former military base converted into Wildlife refuge is fascinating. Abandoned bunkers stand here in complete silence, covered under the grassy hills, old mine shops and whole network of buildings spread out in a huge field. This is absolutely best abandoned place to snoop around and photoshoot. Moose, beavers, deer and other wildlife call this place home. It's also great place for stargazing as it gets dark here quickly. There are also few photo blinds - tiny cabins with narrow windows to sit and wait for perfect picture. Pretty cool. Autoroute seems to be still under construction, only small portion is open, but some of old roads that been partially demolished make excellent off-roading trail (do not try this, kids). Accidentally, we make a wrong turn and end up on no road at all, with no possibility to turn around. Running thru churned asphalt rocks, grass and frozen puddles is mad fun! 4x4 stayed on whole time, obviously. There are many hiking trails here, Beaver pond is nice one. This place is twisted. Unexpected. I am still trying to wrap my mind around it - the abandoned military bunkers, trails and roads - it resonates with me somehow.

Not only did I have the place pretty much to myself, but it was so well cared for. The trails are wide and well groomed, and there are informational kiosks throughout. I didn't see any critters (just some tracks and poop) but had I encountered a bear, the information I read prior to heading on the trail would have helped me out. Land trusts, wildlife refuges, and other public lands are so important to the surrounding communities and provide valuable education to the public. I highly encourage anyone to come, but if you come on a really hot day like I did, bring plenty of water!

Walking around the property is a literal scavenger hunt, with vast berry patches, live animals, and a miniature waterfall. You can't quite see Canada (seven miles to the east) from the observatory, but you'll have a tremendous view of the area. I strongly encourage you to stop by Goughan's, pet some bunnies, play some golf, eat some strawberries and onion rings, finish with ice cream, and take something to go. I wish the gift shop had more jams when we visited, but you can't have everything.

We had the garlic cheese bread very good but we loved the garlic cheese bread sticks even more. I had a chef salad it was good lettuce not wilted dressing was tasty. My son likes the broccoli Alfredo it even reheated nicely. The Ruben was good but I asked for extra sauerkraut they wish I could've gotten more. The bread was good toasted and had good flavor. We took home the berry spare dessert it was very good. The water wasn't bad. Typical soda selections. We been a couple of times and probably will go back. Maybe next time in a Wednesday for trivia night.

Waited 2 1/2 hours for our food. I asked for very well done and my burger was still pink…read more We arrived before the lunch rush. There were only 2 other tables with people. By the time we were served our food, many people had come and gone, and the lunch rush had long since been over. When asked about the delay, the waitress stated, that because pizza were "faster to make because they have a new pizza oven. Therefore pizzas were the priority." Apparently, since they could not even manage to make a well done burger.

Great spot! Several trails available for hiking, and they are dog friendly. Bring bug spray... the…read moremosquitoes and black flies are no joke. Plenty of shade in the forest, but remember to keep moving so you don't get bitten up! (I visited in late June) Trails are a little narrow, but well maintained. Lots of parking at the central cul de sac, and a couple of other spots towards the entrance off the main road. They request hikers make a trail use donation at the office. We will definitely visit again!

Very modern - running water from a mountain water well, lighting, propane stove & oven, a large kitchen counter, a kitchen table with four chairs, a super comfortable leather chair & ottoman, a jackknife sofa, a queen bed, & a set of bunk beds. There is also a very new wood burning stove with lots of wood. There is also a wall heater that is fueled by propane. Stocked with cutlery, service utensils, glasses, & mugs. Has a large Blackstone grill under cover. Chairs around the outside of the property. Owners supplied a large cooler. * Outdoor sink. Two large picnic tables. Typical outhouse, is very new & close to front door. State owned bathroom just a few minute drive. * Large outdoor shower with HOT water near front door. * All amenities very easy to use just follow the directions. * Mountain trails for hikes for every level of hiker with signs of wildlife. * Nearby - Produce stand called Arnold's Farm Market nearby. * Fort Kent -Canadian Border Crossing & the Swamp Bucket restaurant. * Presque Isle - coffee shops & The Riverside Inn Restaurant. * Caribou - go to "Sleepers" for clothing & the bowling alley.
