Today we had reserved horseback rides for my father and my daughter. We arrived at this very sweet barn to be welcomed by very friendly staff and horse handlers. The wranglers were reassuring and took the time to answer questions we had being first time riders. We paid for 1 hour ride that was beutiful and peaceful and a great value as well. We learned a lot from our wranglers. The horses were calm and sweet,they were easy to ride and made us less freaful! We took the two hour ride up to the ice cave and the scenery was gorgeous. The horses were amazing. It didn't feel completely mindless as the horses were responsive to more advanced riders as well as those of us that had never been on a horse. Highly recommend. Our wrangler, Hitch, was very personable and entertaining. It was just a great all around experience, we will be returning. read more

My husband and I did the 2 hour ride (which actually was about 2 1/2) with Hitch as our guide up to the Ice Cave. What a beautiful day it was and we had a great ride! Hitch was such a nice young man and kept us entertained with his stories of growing up on a ranch. The Ice Cave was kind of a hole in the side of the mountain but it blew out icy cold air which was a refreshing break from our ride. Our horses were very cooperative and appeared to be well taken care of. Helmets are not required for adults so we wish we had brought hats. We felt that while it seemed expensive it ended up being worth the money. Don't forget to tip your guide, Hitch was as entertaining as the ride itself!!! read more

We had a good time, but it could have been sooo much better. The horses and ride were great. Our ranch hand or guide "hitch" was not in it and did nothing to make sure the experience was great. Really too bad that we pre-paid a large tip.....he didn't earn it. Everyone else was nice, accommodating, and tolerant of us inexperience urban cowboys. read more

Called to reserve horseback riding lessons for Saturday afternoon or Sunday, was told I would get a call back....and nothing! Showed up at the stable on Sunday and the lady at the front desk walked away with another gal and started riding with her, but never said and word to us. She obviously didn't care about the business. read more

After seeing an ad for Porter Mountain Stables my daughter and I made reservations for a mid morning 1 hr trail ride. Hitch was our guide and kept us informed and entertained the entire trip. He was also very attentive to the horses and riders (everyone had ridden before) to make sure no one was lagging behind or having any issues. We had 5 other riders on the ride and everyone was chatting with each other along the way, enjoying the scenery and the relaxing ride. We went through forest, across streams and along the reservoir. All the horses were cooperative and placed in a particular order by their personalities. I would highly recommend this stable. The horses were healthy and well cared for. Thank you Hitch!!!!! We stopped in to take our daughter horseback riding for the first time. Pulling up, you see lots of horses and a cute barn. The wrangler inside was super nice and got up set up for an hour ride with wrangler Bill. We didnt have much experience on horses but this was a very quiet relaxing ride. The horses were very obedient and pretty calm. There was a lot of nice scenery along the trail. My husband, daughter and I had a great time and will for sure come back when we are in the area again! read more

We made reservations 2 weeks ahead of our trip. We called the day of our tour and were told to show up at 4:20. We arrived promptly at 4:20 and were told only 2 hourses we're avalible and 4 of us were going to ride. This was the one of the main parts of our trip and my wife was really looking forward to it. I would not reccomend this stable at all as they are completely unorganized and unable to perform business as they should. I would give this place zero stars but that is not an option. read more

We came here two years ago and had a good experience for a one hour horseback ride. We came here October 23rd 2015 for a 1:30 p.m. ride (got there at 1 pm so we would be saddled up by 1:30) and were told by a man taking a family out for 2 hours, that there was no one around to take us out and that a 12 o'clock two hour ride would be back by 2 p.m. So we waited until 2:30. The place was absolutely deserted and when we called, the woman who answered the phone gave us excuses saying," Well, you didn't have a reservation. I had called that morning and she told me specifically that there would be a 1 hour ride at 1:30. I was never asked if I wanted or told that I needed a reservation.I will never come back to this place and I do not recommend anyone going there unless you have half a day to waste waiting for someone to take you on a trail ride that never shows up. I only gave 1 star because I could not post a review with no stars. I was so disappointed. read more

My partner and I took a 1 hour ride with two 11 year old girls and we had a great time. The people at Porter Mountain Stables were very helpful and our wrangler (Bill) was great. The trail is picturesque and goes along Scott Reservoir which is very nice. For the kids, 1 hour was sufficient but older children or adults might prefer a 2 hour ride. I highly recommend Porter Mountain Stables and will go again. read more
