Food is bad and bathrooms are gross, pee EVERYWHERE and food splattered on the ground, cockroaches and disgusting bugs.

This school is unlike any other, not only within LAUSD but possibly in the country. My child regularly comes home describing a culture in which students and parents openly threaten to petition for teachers to be fired. When teachers assign a well-earned B, the response is often outrage, including harassing phone calls to the district and higher offices. The entire administrative team has turned over and been replaced, and when administrators attempt to enforce rules or maintain standards, they too become targets. The honor roll has lost all meaning: approximately 98% of students are labeled "honor students" and hold perfect GPAs. The level of grade inflation is staggering. It is deeply disappointing that despite the high cost of living in this area, the school community has become entitled, toxic, and hostile to academic integrity. read more

According to my son, he was subjected to yelling and raised voices during a recent interaction with the middle school assistant principal. As a parent, it deeply troubles me to learn that such behavior occurred within the school environment. Yelling at students is not only counterproductive but also detrimental to their emotional well-being and sense of safety within the school community. My child just started kindergarten. On the 1st day of school his teacher let him out of the class to play in the playground by himself. He was supposed to be picked up by the Coyote Kids Club staff to be taken to the after school program. They say they came but his name wasn't on the list. Funny because when I came to pick him up they had his paperwork in the folder. They blame the teacher and the teacher blames them. What was a serious concern was my child was in the play ground by himself without any adult supervision. The front gate of the school was wide open. This is a serious safety issue. I sent an email to the principal. It has been over 3 days and no response. On friday the teacher held my child back in the class after school because I believe he may have told her that a family friend will pick him up. This is not true. Unless she speaks with the parents, a child should never be released to anyone else not authorized. Afterwards I'm told she escorted my son to the after school program where he should have been in the 1st place. I have some very serious safety concerns at this school. So far it has not been a good experience but rather a traumatizing experience. Wonder when the principal will get back to me.....hoping this might speed things up. read more

This review gets two stars, one star because it is a clean school and one more for the assistant principal who was very kind to me. My Child is 5 years old and this bad review is for the teacher Ms Kieffer from TK I was lied to by her in Oct 2021 my son was experiencing bullying. He has speech delay + an IEP program at the school. It is difficult for him to learn and speak up for himself. After only attending Porter Ranch Elementary for Two months. I asked every pick up how my child was. I asked if the teacher needed any help with answering questions about my son. I asked how is behavior. Every time I received the same answer everything is fine or good. A classroom photo came back home and my son for two weeks keep bringing me the photo. Pointing at two children in the class room but specifically to one. I finally started asking him the right yes and no questions? To pin point the issue. A few days before Halloween I Executed A email about the incident at 8 AM in the morning. The email was basic I was just asking the teacher if she had witnessed anything or heard of anything in regards to the student involving my child. That same day I was approached by the teacher and another teacher about the boys in the classroom including my own flashing each others bottom in the bathroom alone and were caught by one of the teachers. I was in shock and asked the teacher if she was able to explain to the children that's not ok she said yes. I of course handled the situation at home with my child. Point is I was able to speak to Mrs Kieffer and I asked if she saw my email. She said yes and there was no situation with the child. Next day after pick up I felt very confused so I asked another parent what she thought of Mrs Kieffer and she said oh I know what you are going to say. You are talking about the kids who are hitting everyone. I was sad to hear this but I kept it calm and asked the parent to please identify the mother of the child who's causing so much stress. everyone is still in line waiting for doors to open. I introduced myself and spoke to the mother who was very polite and apologetic. She broke down crying and asked for my help. That the teacher isn't informing her about this and she doesn't know how to handle. My response was still calm I said why don't we both wait and speak with the teacher together. Things escalated very quickly from there once I approached the teacher in the line and was getting my child from class. I said quickly we need to talk teacher because what you told me about this incident isn't true I'll wait for you please. But before I could say I'll wait for you please. I was pushed by her, not once but twice. She put her hands on me twice. She was saying step aside which of course I was I would never make a scene. But when she was shoving her fingers into my arm and pushing me aside I froze and felt very disrespected. I asked her to remove her hands from my body. She did it again with no regard. No matter what I was calm I went I stood and waited with the other mother. She was still crying and I gave her positive words. But mrs Kieffer had other plans she came out yelling saying I couldn't speak to other parents. And to not speak to her like that. I corrected her and defended myself I was consoling a parent not attacking. IT WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Kieffer continued to say statements about my son. I again defended my son and said he doesn't act in any bad way incorrect bad manners like she was creating to justify she lied and was caught. When I said That I know my child is a good child because I raised him she rolled her eyes and left calling the other parent inside. Still I was not given and explaination by her At all. The rest was handled by the principal who admitted the little boy in class has trouble and they are handling with with weekly meeting to evaluate and help the boy. This dilemma has caused so much stress in my personal and work life. I now have to homeschool my child with city of angels. He misses a great opportunity to learn and grow with other kids. He misses routine and classroom socializing. This set back could have been handled better. There is no excuse to treat a concerned parent like that. There is no reason to lie. My issue isn't with the school completely, but the teachers. Teachers are leaving every year, this school is always short on teachers, and the eighth grade English teacher sucks. The school is way to small and they are putting elementary in the middle school buildings! This is absurd and ridiculous. The eighth grade English teacher has harassed many students. She took away a diabetic kids phone, which they needed as they are diabetic. She told a person of color she doesn't want gangsters at our school, which is racist because he was totally fine and not doing anything. She also harassed kids in yearbook, to the point where she was removed from being the teacher. She kicked 2 kids out, one who wrote an essay about yearbook. Than she showed it in front of the whole class without him or his brother! The kid said not to share it to the class, but she shared it without his knowledge, to every class, not just yearbook. Than she said their pictures were bad, however, they were used on the actual yearbook as the new teacher said they were good. This is just sad how bad this school has gotten after Covid started. read more

This school is far from perfect for sure, but as far as LAUSD goes, this school is as good as it gets. We live in Porter Ranch and we move here just because of this school 10 years ago. We now have 2 elementary school kids and both attend this school since kinder. Teachers and staffs here are generally nice and good, of course, we got some bad ones here too just like anywhere else. However, PTA is strong and we have a lot of involving parents here so most things are lined up in orders. Base on our own experience, the population of kids here is general good kids. The cons for this school is that it relies heavily on family's donation to keep all these elective programs alive as LAUSD funding is really insufficient. We have two kids so of course we did our shares but we heard that many don't which is pretty sad. Also, the middle school program seems to be going downhill so that we are scrambling to look for alternatives and weigh out what other choices we have. By the end of the day, our kids are having fun at school, happy when they got home and eager to go to school the next day. That's what matters to us the most. read more

My overall experience with the school has been horrible the tactics and the school staff are very racist and uneducated. The racial comments that my kids have to endure are unacceptable. Number of times I approached Gary Saunders nothing changed. Paying 1.7 mil for a house and being forced to attend this school not going to happen! read more

Beautiful school located up in the hills of Porter Ranch. We came to watch a volleyball game. The neighborhood looks really safe. A huge plus is that it is near a local plaza that has a Walmart, Best Buy, Ralph's and restaurants. As well as local churches. read more

Great school. Graduation was good. Teachers are all nice and supportive in every grade. I went here for a long time and no matter what grade I was in, I had a great support. 100 worth going. Teachers genuinely care about the child's future. Im going to be real, in other middle schools, there's a lot of drugs and alcohol but in Porter Ranch everyone, literally everyone is innocent and very nice. I can't imagine my childhood without this schools support. Staff was great to. Even when I had the smallest issue, they would still listen. God bless Ms. Melvin read more

This school looks nice and new, but there are a lot of problems that come with the buildings. The classes are sometimes neat and tidy. The halls can use some cleanups though. I like how there are some new lockers, but some kids have old lockers that are broken. The elevator is creepy because it makes a lot of sounds and I'm a very lightweight person. The lights in the elevator is pretty dim too. Each set of stairs has a beautiful painting of a tree. The elementary building has a tree with I believe is the golden rule(I can't remember what it exactly says), and two different paintings in the middle school buildings that has the names of the people who graduated. The offices are neat and perfectly clean. The nurses' office is clean and connected to a childrens' restroom. The cafeteria is not one of my favorites. The food is sometimes cold or gross. I saw a kid drop his bowl of beans and it was fine. Nothing spattered and the kid took the beans out of the bowl. The beans were in a shape and didn't break when he took it out. I looked disgusted by the beans as he threw it to the wall and the beans were still in the shape it originally looked like. I have also seen that the school has a lot of beans. When I say a lot, I mean almost every single day it is on the menu. I know that kids have food allergies; mostly beans. I am not so happy about the fact that the food seems non-editable. Some of the teachers are amazing. One English teacher constantly gives out Fs because she got the kids confused about what form she wants the homework in. She said on paper once and when I asked her twice she said on Schoology. I got confused and just did it on paper because my whole class said she wants it on paper. I got an F that day and I can't make it up! This is total nonsense! I am a student here and this is sad that I am not fully satisfied about this place. Please take care of this problem! read more

One of the best elementary schools in the Valley, which scored an impressive 99 out of 100 C.O.R.E score, won the 2016 California Gold Ribbon Schools Award, and ranked in the top 5 elementary schools in Los Angeles Unified School District for 2016. It looks very well maintained and the students are all so well-behaved. This reflects well on the teachers and the excellent guidance of the principal and vice principal. There is a private school feel to how things are run and the students' performance speaks for itself. So happy that we are definitely saving a lot of money. read more

This was a terrible school and the beans were absolutely horrible. They were most definitely non-editable. I can't believe this school. One kid decided to attach balloons to a pack of beans and when he dropped it fell down. I can't believe what kind of school makes beans fall down. Even when it fell down it floated a little bit. My son has a bean allergy like most students here. Most kids cyber bullied him and called him bean boy , bean bag , and most importantly bean eyed. One day he came home crying because these kids stuffed beans into his face. I had to help him through these tough times. Unfortunately he has gotten better. The beans at this school honestly are terrible and they should remove them off the menu almost immediately. Speaking of menus they have beans on the menu almost every year. They make them too often. Also another teacher named Sm . Nival is very good but one time she came and threw beans at my son. He was horrified and traumatized. He wanted to kill him self for a while but fortunately I encouraged him and he decided not to. One day later I realized I was my own son and I was having hallucinations due to the beans. So I decided to time travel and go back to 2015 where this all started. I found my past self about to eat the beans and then shot him. I realized at that moment I was going to die too. But I didn't. I then realized I accidentally shot a random student . I covered up his body and threw it into the desert. Finally I had to find myself and prevent myself from ever eating the school cafeteria beans. I searched first in Australia but then i realized that place was upside down so I couldn't stand there. I went back to America and finally tracked myself down and found him about to eat the beans. I ran across the table in slow motion and punched him in the face he got up and shot me and then realized I had created a paradox. When that happened I decided to write a review for porter ranch community school after the beans had took over. This is my departing message.
