The View is an aptly named restaurant. Set in the lovely village of Wormit, it overlooks the Tay…read moreRail Bridge with a view of Dundee across the river. It even has outdoor seating where you can dine, have a drink and take in the view, weather permitting of course. I had lunch here with friends and was very pleased with my meal. The main menu has options of 2 or 3 courses with a la carte options as well. I opted for the lunch menu and went with the Chicken tikka open sandwich. I was thoroughly surprised that it was actually chicken tikka strips on an open sandwich. (I was surprised simply because most places that advertise a chicken tikka sandwich really mean that they have chicken chunks in an Indian-ish flavoured mayo.) The chicken was served on a bed of salad, mayo and an impressively thick slice of brown bread (no complaints about this lovely bread). The sandwich was great. I did, however, think that it had too much mayo, partially due to the fact that I didn't feel like it added anything to the taste of the sandwich... but this is an extremely minor complaint, if not simply a personal preference. It was served with a side of coleslaw and small portion of salted crisps. My friends got the impressive looking seafood platter for two, which I think I would recommend. The View is a nice little unexpected gem in a village that has a post office and one local shop. If you're in Wormit or Newport, check it out.

Delicious food. Quite sophisticated for such a small village. Might confuse people who are used to…read moreheaps of ordinary 'pub grub' and have no experience of this quality of cuisine. Not sure the use of the term 'Tapas' is useful as it implies ( to most people) that they are serving Spanish food when they really mean that the dishes on the Tasting Menu should be eaten 'in the same way as a tapas menu' with a selection of items shared amongst a group of customers. Although the concept is well advanced in major towns and cities and viewers of Masterchef will also understand the idea it is not perhaps widespread in a smaller location and could lead to misunderstandings and disappointment. Which would be a shame. Clearly the Chef has worked in luxury restaurants where Rosettes are the norm and the food appreciated. Very friendly, courteous staff. Excellent service and good value for money. We will definitely be back.

Still, there are precious few places in this neck of the woods that can do food of this standard, so don't be put off. For starters, I had the scallops (without the bacon and black pudding), which were so succulent that they practically melted in the mouth. That was followed by an evening special of halibut, which arrived with two round slices of what looked like cheese on top, but which turned out to be a slightly spiced butter concoction. Yowza! It also came with samphire, one of my favourite greens. I was pretty full after that, but manfully struggled on to the dark chocolate torte (sans ice cream), which was a perfect finishing touch to the meal. Herself opted for the cheeseboard, which had a nice selection of local cheeses (but not too much) with grapes and water crackers. Full marks for the cuisine, slightly less for decor and service.

I love tapas and can't be in Spain right now so I was like hell yea! The place has a wine and cocktail menu-the wine list was ok, the cocktail list was better. I got a drink called jack punch which was a couple of different rum with pineapple juice, was pretty good...definitely had a punch! My friend and I ordered the tasting menu which was a mix of meat and seafood. We got so much food I couldn't eat it all. They have us around 15-20 little dishes to eat which included jamon, potatas bravas, chicken, hake, shrimp, kebab, cheese, and bread. The serving was good for two people and the food was good, some better than others. There was no one dish that screamed AMAZING to me... It was all pretty much had decent flavours. It is a good tapas place especially if you're in Dundee, just a bit out of the way if you're staying in city centre and don't have a car. The staff were all nice and made sure we kept eating. Overall the place is a good spot to nibble on things while catching up with a friend or friends in Dundee.
